I am 60 and I was there in Harare a black face in a sea of white faces. Twenty thousand had crossed over from South Africa for this concert. It’s not every day that you have Bruce, Sting,Tracy,Peter,Clarence(mhsrip) etc on stage together. I will take the memories of this night to my grave.

I was a Bulawayo boy in London for the first kick-off concert. Really awesome concert. It got better as they traveled. Wish I could have experienced yje concert in Zim too. I was there in spirit, Drove back to Bulawayo from London a year later and then onto SA later. In Cape Town now. We need concerts like this again. From Africa this time.

@@WireKigali There was a number of concerts, with one in Harare with it's focus on South Africa under Apartheid. Johnny Clegg and Juluka also played at this concert.

I´ve heard that Oliver Mtukudzi played at that concert too. Would have loved to see Tuku and the Boss in 88

@@svennandersen2326 Tuku didn’t feature at this concert but Comrade Chinks did. All the artists got together at the end of the show to sing Stand Up for your Rights by Bob Marley. Simply an unforgettable experience. Can you believe it that I still have my ticket -35 years later???? I guess they will throw it into my coffin when they bury me !!!!!

Thousands of us Chileans went to Argentina to see this concert. We were living under a dictatorship and this was a beam of hope. Please don’t say no one remembers. So many of us remember.

I was in Abidjan, I was 13. Great memory with rock legends such as Bruce, E street band, Sting, Pete Gab, and great musicians such as Manu Katché, Branford Marsalis. First rock concert ever in that country. Johnny Clegg was at his top, and the most popular of the show, playing at the end of the show.

I was at the both concerts @ Palais Omnisport de Paris-Bercy(now AccorHotels Arena) on Sunday 4th & Monday 5th of September 1988 . Greats evenings, some souvenirs with the french artist Michel Jonasz apologizing to the audience "sorry, my voice is broken, but I wanted to help Amnesty International, so I couldn't miss this concert..." or stunning versions of "Sledgehamer" and "Shock the Monkey" by Peter Gabriel and above all an unforgettable cover(in French please !) of Jacques Brel's song "Ne me quitte pas" by Sting. They all finished with both Bob's Dylan "Chimes of Freedom" and Bob Marley's "Get Up Stand Up". I still hold the tickets and the T-shirt I bought there...Two of the greatest music nights I ever lived !
