If its anything like the post-its on our Kanban wall, its so you don't come into work in the morning to discover a little pile of random post-its on the floor. Guess the stage from the task description is always fun (helped by having a Google Doc spreadsheet tracking what we've done each day when we "walk the wall").
there has to be a pulling force for it to be a kanban system, if the idea is for this to resemble how kanban works in a manufacturing setting. For example if your office capacity is 3 stories, then have 3 'capacity' cards in your to-do, WIP, and completed areas. when a story is 'pulled' for work due to free capacity, then stick it onto one of the capacity cards and move it to the to-do or WIP column and move it along per its workflow. When you move it to the completed column, remove the story from the capacity card, leave the story in the completed column and place the capacity card in the to-do column. Now you can 'pull' another story from the backlog by sticking it to the capacity card and entering it into the system. Without this pulling effect from downstream processes (when I finish one, I start another) it doesn't constitute a kanban, you're just poorly borrowing a technical term from a different field for a buzzword effect. The board in this video has nothing to do with kanban systems developed by Toyota
No need to be snarky. The kanban board does indeed pull, it just doesn't use a card like you might be used to in manufacturing. This video shows how the manufacturing metaphor gets converted into a board for software development; I think it might be helpful for you: th-cam.com/video/5izyN66PTxs/w-d-xo.html
This isn't a Kanban board. This is just a really cool scheduling board. A Kanban board would pull material based on customer demand and create trigger points for reordering. This is a reactive board.
+Brandon Moore no sorry you are incorrect. This is not kanban as kanban requires a pull system. These stickies are being pushed along not being pulled by any process.
Nelson Rocha that is also one of kinda form of Kanban. According the definition, it also explains that Kanban is “signal”. For instance, the indicator gasoline in car shows the the time when will the fuel be empty...
Close! The board should at least have a place to the put the WIP limit. The parts you mention are a good add. Also, kanban as a process should have policies that govern how you move between the states you mention.
Trello IS good....however its been studied proven many times that WHEN you write something into the physical world it becomes more real & ingrained into a deeper level of your thought process than it would by typing it on a keyboard.
Will Wyatt Smart Cookie ;) Other than using Trello or any other online platform, SmartSheet & Bitrix24 are far better options. Bitrix24 is FREE for up to 12 users. Eat that Trello. Over functionality & options of viewing types, SmartSheet is #1, then Bitrix24 a close 2nd.
All this non-sense for which we need another position so he/she can move stick notes around. The team can handle these on their own, companies don't need a SM
Please learn to pronounce kanban. How can you learn about something and claim you're an authority without properly learning it? Can you properly pronounce Pasta? If so, whats the problem with pronouncing kanban? Note the similarity in intonation.
this is really great - very simple smart to the point way to present how kanban board is used. THANK YOU!
Great video! The elevation of post-it's to indicate priority is a great tip. Thanks for sharing!
This a great video for freshers understanding Kanban. Thank you very much.
Very practical--- You did a good job of presenting the simplicity of the steps and overall approach to Kanban. Thanks.

Simple and Awesome. Thanks for Sharing your knowing..
Thank you, sir. Definitely received some clarity on a Kanban board.
One of the very important aspects of Kanban board is Work in Progress (WIP) Value. this should have been included in this video.
simple and well explaned!. Thank
Great video thank you very much.
great video to understand what is kanban .. is there an online tool as well to save the stationary cost ?
Great Job Alex !
Superb video , helpful information , thanks for sharing!
Why do you use tape on Post-its? :)

Using the Super Sticky Post Its will obviate this problem, especially if you use the ones that are fully adhesive; almost all adhesive on the backs.
@@GreenJimll stop buying cheap post-its
I'm interested
Try Restyaboard, probably the best looking and working kanban out there.

Nelson Rocha no. sorry you are incorrect. It might not be very detailed but it is still one.

Nice! I just did a board without the Backlog column, though.
Thank you Sir. Awesome
Excellent video and to the point.... more insight in short time
How did we ever survive without post its?
Where do u place tasks then ?
Very good - short, sweet, effective
Great video !!!
Awesome! thank you! :)
thanks a lot
Thank you for sharing, great video. I owe you a small favor (:D) from Brazil.
Where's the WIP?
I enjoyed your video. It was very helpful. Thank you!
Great video
Nice video. Why have you kept first two columns separate. Cant both be merged?
+Afroz Khan You could replace "To Do" with "Selected for Development." It's not actually a WIP yet, but can be assigned or worked.
+Versus Al: I like that idea.
Tim Heidecker?
con-bon :)
This guy reminds me of Zach Galifianakis
nice intro
A Kanban board without WIP limit is only a board
The last column should be called Done/Follow-up to do
that is not a kanban board. A kanban board have two coluns in each big one, have a backlog, a breakdown, a execute, a evaluate, and finish
and a hold
Close! The board should at least have a place to the put the WIP limit. The parts you mention are a good add. Also, kanban as a process should have policies that govern how you move between the states you mention.
silicon valley movie anyone? :D
"the sky's the limit! use your imagination: different colored tape, different colored stickies.." LMAO
USE TRELLO... FORGET THE PAPER
Trello IS good....however its been studied proven many times that WHEN you write something into the physical world it becomes more real & ingrained into a deeper level of your thought process than it would by typing it on a keyboard.
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE.

Moving stories is not kanban to me, these U.S must be more granular and identified as a specific tasks.
It's "Khan-bahn", not "Can-ban".
Ugh no.
You took a simple concept and made a monster with emojis and jargon.
WTF just use trello.com !!

butthurt, eh
This is not Kanban, and why wouldn’t you reduce waste and just use a whiteboard. This is not lean at all.
