Watching this instead of election results was one of my best decisions today. I love watching both of you separately and you are magic together. So much fun! Thank you!
Mark, I had to stop the video after you said your viewers aren’t as into the pen stuff (I’ll watch the rest, but had to comment first). You are singularly responsible for my new pen and ink obsession. I have a Lumos Duo and Wren because of your videos. I now have three A&O fountain pens and four different Kaweci fountain pens because of your excitement about fountain pens. Ferris Wheel Press, Colorverse, Tom’s Studio, and more are all lined up in colorful bottles because of you. I’m very happy to have this blossoming hobby, and it’s because of your enthusiasm and helpful videos. My bujo is happy, too, with the addition of lovely writing. I love your pen and ink videos and your bullet journal videos. Thank you!
Please someone create merch! I need a tshirt that says “persnickety biscuit” and a sticker that says “calm, cool, collected” Great episode as always, pals! You have such great energy, it’s a joy to listen to you.
Mark I can't thank you enough for mentioning the Stack Method for e-mails! I've worked at a life insurance company for almost 20 years now and e-mails are something I've never felt I had a 100% handle on. But this method is really clicking in my brain. I had already figured out working in blocks was best for e-mails but the folders part was something I struggled with. Could never come up with a way to sort them that made sense. I went and binged all the Stack Method videos as soon as you mentioned it in this video. Thanks again!
I prefer the B5 because it gives me the space to work and put photos. I have plenty of A5's but I tend to use those for my reading journals. Can't wait to get started on my 2025 journal.
Haha. Jess the Wizard with all her spell books/components and Mark the Druid with his plants/trinkets. You are sitting in the tavern having your weekly meet up when a frazzled dragonborn enters from the rain, dripping and begging for your help. What do you do? I made a page for When Did I Last this year but never finished it because this year has been bonkers! I'm looking forward to actually using that page next year. I'm hoping next year is more calm and a better journal year for me.
I struggle with traditional meal prep and getting board with the same foods over and over. What works for me is thinking about making things that can be easily frozen. One of my favorite ways to do this is making something like lasagna. I make twice as much and freeze one for later. It doesn’t dramatically increase the prep time and then I have one ready to throw in the oven when I don’t feel like the effort.
Same for me! I have also heard of something like second base or round two meals. Making double of something and using the second portion to make something else... Like pot roast for round one, using the meat and jus for french dip sandwiches for round two, if there is anything left you can make beef tacos or quesadillas for a round three. Roast chicken and such works well too.
For meals, you could try a version of the year view habit tracker - pick a colour each for chicken, beef, pork, land, fish, pasta or noodles, bread, egg, cheese etc, then pick the 4 most likely meals per category (i.e. for chicken - curry, roast, wrap) and assign a light to dark range. Then when you colour in you will see if you have variety.
The goal of using up a bottle of ink is so relatable!. I'm more than halfway through a bottle of ferris wheel press ink and I'm terrified of using it up because it is the ink I reach for the most but also the satisfaction of having used all that ink is so attractive
Goals planner, everyday bujo, one little word notebook, everyday journal (including media consumed stuff), poetry/writing class journal, and meeting notes/work "journal"
Mark I’m one of those that love the FP content! Especially as someone who has just started and loves fancy shimmer inks, but still wants a 160gsm notebook for my bullet journal, I look to you for inspo on inks & pens For ink swatch books, I came across Dominant Industry’s Ink Archiving Book (at Goldspot Pens), and it looks so cool - you get to paint with your inks ! I’m probably going to grab it bc rn my ink swatches are also all over the place inwhatever notebook I had at the time I’ve grabbed a Hobonichi Weeks for my health planner so i can really see the ink qualities during use. But my regular bullet journal will definitely still be a 160gsm notebook, i’m continuing a NotebookTherapy journal (original size) i started this month into 2025 - and I’m trying out your monthly-as-future-log idea and I think it’ll be great!
Whenever I see Jess' lineup I wanna do all the notebooks, too, but THE TIME COMMITMENT always seems so intense 😂 I actually do have a workout/running journal as well, guilt tripping helps me do sport as well 😂😂😂❤
I disagree with Mark regarding the Winter collections and looking for holiday themes. I'd rather more places *not* focus on holiday. Snowflakes? General seasonal? Absolutely, but not everyone celebrates the same holidays and especially when the holiday you celebrate isn't Christmas, it gets so tiring. I know that was a throw away comment but I did just want to mention it. Not everything needs to be based on the season as well.
😂 I'd have to agree. I really liked the nostalgia collection because having snow-esque things when I'm heading into the hottest point of the year feels silly, haha 😝 - Jess
@@PlannerPalsPodcast You and I are pretty much in line on that. I *loved* the nostalgia collection and some, at least in the US, might think that would fit better for school with the composition notebook but for me it was a good evergreen collection. A lot of different motifs that work year round.
I love the WANT system. I watched your recent 2025 WANT (and by recent totally could have been quite a while ago because I have concept of time lol). Now after you talking about the system twice, I am convinced I need to make one too. So much good valuable tidbits in this podcast. Totally with Mark on the use up supplies/try out all the supplies goal! I was more mindful this year to try to use up more of my stash, but I want to be even more mindful about bringing in less to my collections next year. I was a scrapbooker, card maker, stamper first then planner crazy lady afterwards and have TONS of card making specific stamps. One of my TRY list items is incorporating copic colored stamped images into my planners because they are fun to make and they just make me so dang happy.
2025 plan is a A&O for my BuJo, but not sure yet if I’ll use an A5 or B5. Reading journal and diary will be in a TN. Work will stay digital (OneNote) and all the hobby journals will carry over.
I started using a filofax binder in 2024, it's worked a lot better then a bound book ever did for me because i can print and use my own pape. my biggest gripe is writing on the left page due to the rings but its a small sacrifice to bring the cost of notebook and paper down. Biggest thing i'd like to do for 2025 is using more scrapbooking supplies in it, tearing paper and such since i find that style of journaling so aestetically pleasing. as for wins i think i've narrowed down the type of weekly pages i prefer, i do half a page split down the middle with all the preplanned meetings and such listed on the left and then i do a daily to do list on the right that just continus as manny pages as is needed during the week.
My first journal for 2025 will be yours, Mark.🖤Already planned a Da Vinci theme for new year start collections to kinda match the line vibe of the cover. I am going to try a fine artist theme each month next year for fun. January is Da Vinci. Looking forward to getting back into a square journal, after two months in an A5 I feel cramped. I will continue my 5 year journal and reading journal even though I am pretty sporadic about opening them. I want to redo my long term collections journal and try to section it out better so I can find the info more efficiently and a cleaned up version of my swatches too. Oh the ambition! 😂 Have a great week!
My big try/need is better quality paper in my notebook - picked up an A&O journal and excited to jump into it. Also continuing a reading journal, which has been nice going from just listing to actually doing more with my books. I like the look of a monthly theme with decorations/color....but I haven't stuck with it yet so maybe I can try that cause it's pretty LOL
Great episode team! I was VERY excited to find the Bullet journal Pocket in Australia! I have that ready to go for 2025 in my effort to have my journal with me at all times even in a small bag. 🙂
I love hearing Jess' long list of journals bc it makes me feel better about my collection lol. i'm trying out a B5 for the first time next year as my everyday bullet journal. i'm also bringing in pen/ink swatch notebook in an A6, and i'm bringing forward my craft journal, common place journal, travel journal, gaming journal, and art journal! i am also thinking about maybe starting a more traditional 'writing down my thoughts and feelings' journal but still on the fence about it. also Jess! in regards to your system of FB messaging yourself, have you thought about a discord server for just yourself? it works the same way but with the benefit of channels for different areas makes it easier to find stuff that you've sent yourself in the future. its very useful!
Thank you for differentiating OCD and perfectionistic tendencies. As someone who lives with both, it is really damaging when people label everything as OCD, not understanding the full scope of symptoms someone with OCD suffers from.
Hey Mark I've seen people use markers on their stamps so it stands to reason you could use your fountain pen ink the same way. Just get like a brush or qtip and put it on the stamps then use them and clean them up the same way you would stamp pad ink. Otherwise I enjoyed y'all's talk I can't wait to see your next year's set ups.
Regarding using what you have: I would really like a video on creative ways to use the same washi tape. Picking a tape and showing several different spreads with that tape and how to combine it with lots of different things. 🙏Please.
Always love these videos with you two & always interesting! Thank you! I am not an authority on fountain pen inks or ink swatches, but one of Jess's pieces of advice has stuck with me: swatch your pens on the paper you are going to use it on. Is that a good approach for fountain pen inks? If not, while you may not like the ghosting, would a Tomoe River Paper notebook be option for swatching, since you won't be "planning" in it? If so, Wonderland 222 has some great TRP notebooks - their 96 page A6 is *adorable*...and most of theirs have original TRP. [Aside: The Stack Method is GREAT! I admit I haven't quite gotten into the habit of using it consistently, but when I do, it's fantastic. One of my goals for 2025, is to be consistent with it.]
I love my fountain pens and ink, and enjoy seeing mark using his and showing off inks. And i love washi tapes and stamps and markers (but don't use them so i don't own them). But I'll admit i do not understand collecting at all 😅... I have two fountain pens, and would like to get a third - so that i can have an extra fine nib for drawing. I also want to finish an ink, but I've got 6 of them - the typical pen blue and pen black i regret, two waterproof inks for art and two fun inks. I would like more colours but i hate the idea of not using things up fully. It feels wasteful and like I'm not fully appreciating my things... Though that might just be an anxiety hangup 😂
I already had my first derp of 2025. It proves that I'm not good at match. I was like ok I have 9 cycles and each has 3 pages. My mini notebook has 47 pages. This is gonna work out with pages left! Only... each cycle was 3 spreads.... not pages... whoops! So now I have to cram 2 spreads into 1 to make it work. Fortunately I've managed to come up with a layout that will probably work :)
I'm deaaadddd "wasn't finished 💔 still have more journals to talk about" Seriously. I dont even bullet journal anymore because it just doesn't work for my brain, but I love this podcast lmfao. Also, big vote for more fountain pen content from Mark!
At this point I have plans for 4 journals. One for memory keeping, one for work, a tarot journal an my personal planner + health planner. Not sure if I will add a commonplace book and a reading journal, my Workjournal will have an integrated common place space. That's enough for the moment😅
Plan for 2025; to continue the B6 stalogy bullet journal and the 2025 pages of the Happy Planner notebook in classic size (9 discs size); and then continue the rest of the notebooks in the way they are now until they are full, then add a new book for the ones I want to keep going with. I am going to be using a migration filter for whether or not to get a new version for the current ones, and then using a similar tool for whether or not to add a new notebook to my current collection of active ones.
For meal prepping to avoid boredom, one thing we do is to make a batch of protein (let's say chicken) and then plan for several different meals throughout the week that will be easy to build with that prepped protein. So maybe we do a taco salad, a pasta, a grain bowl, and a Mediterranean salad with the same chicken.
For 2025, I’m moving into a standard TN. I still have an a5 dot grid notebook for my prayer journal and that will stay. I just know that A6 is too small for me. I want to decorate way more. So I’m hoping that the TN will give me the flexibility and the space.
I have four journals I use my 5 year journal, my everyday bullet journal, reading journal and what I call a scream journal. My scream journals is a place I can write down everything I want to scream about, best way to end a bad day.
I was so happy to use all the ink in 2 of my fountain pens.. As far as Mark's paper crafts.. he'll be like the Taco Bell of paper crafts.. using the same 5 things to make a menu of items..
SWATCH BOOK: I use a small notebook, 2x3 cm or so sampler offered by Goulet Pens about 6 years ago or so. I fill the fountain pen with an ink. Then, I put in the notebook a writing note of “Pen Name with Ink Name by Ink Company on Date” and then a thin squiggly line, and then a box filled in fully.
Random question! I’m retired but pet sitting a bit to add to my income. I find myself getting calls from prospective clients and I need to make notes. Or a call to my bank. Or detailed plans for travel. I bullet journal but have trouble finding my notes. Do y’all keep these notes in a planner, separate notebook or bullet journal?
Index listing of these items. Or a collection of the items like a Pet Setting collection for the various items in chronological sequence (my preference, you can choose a different way, maybe you want a set collection for each client).
Still watching the video but Jess' comment prompted me to ask if anyone knows of a A5 160gsm bright white journal but with square graph type paper rather than dot grid?? Thanks in advance.
@@PlannerPalsPodcast it would be my dream job tbh ❤️🌱 I love doing detailed stuff and tables on my pc, love coloring and organizing and love to have Jess as my boss 😂 she is the coolest
as for my lineup - a new main bujo ofc, a new long term B5 (am trying this thing where i split up my beginning pages and my monthly spreads), a new reading journal, and then continuing with my travel journal ☺️
I just love the 2 of y'all together. It just makes me so happy. Mark's voice is just heaven 😂 along with Jashiis energy. Perfect combo ❤

It’s a nice upgrade to the size without overdoing it. Hope it’s perfect for you -Mark
I have a problem with the seasonal collections - because in Australia, Christmas is in our summer! It’s an endless source of frustration!
100% relate 😅 - Jess
I have four journals I use my 5 year journal, my everyday bullet journal, reading journal and what I call a scream journal. My scream journals is a place I can write down everything I want to scream about, best way to end a bad day.
How is it already almost 2025?!
We’ve still got time! It’s just the point of the year that always seems to go really fast 😂
Loved the “Happy Wednesday!” bit 😂
Haha glad you enjoyed that one 😂 - Jess
2025 plans: EDC A6 bullet journal (sterling ink 520pg), reading journal (sterling ink B5 520pg). Now I just have to resist every other shiny…
Oh, and I have 1-2 hobonichi A6 supplemental notebooks for things that are handy long term
Thanks for the suggestion. I have a bunch of smaller notebooks that might work out for this. Thank you - Mark
I keep my meeting notes in a separate notebook, but keep all notes that are tied to tasks in my bulletin journal.
Index listing of these items. Or a collection of the items like a Pet Setting collection for the various items in chronological sequence (my preference, you can choose a different way, maybe you want a set collection for each client).
@@bookhuggah thanks! I think reserving a few pages for Pet Sitting Notes as a collection might work.
@@janissamartinez4321 thank you!! where do you keep the notes that are tied to tasks? Next to the task? Separate page?
I think notes in a planner / notebook is fine, but that is why I love the index. That way you can find the page quick and get right to it. -Mark
What are those wonderful rainbow colored books behind you?????😮😊
Ma collection 😂 Taken me a while to get them all, but most of them are from Archer & Olive 🤙 - Jess
Where do you get the Campus notebooks?
Stationery Pal 💪 stationerypal.com/products/kokuyo-campus-soft-ring-kraft-paper-cover-notebook-a5-5-mm-grid?ref=2
@Mark If you sold handmade cards i would snatch that up 😂
Haha, watch out, cause I might need to try soon. -Mark
What do you suggest for planners that I stopped using half way through the year? I feel bad throwing them away
I normally turn mine into R&D notebooks or test notebooks. Ones that I can make scribbly/messy/temporary lists in to use up the rest 😊
Still watching the video but Jess' comment prompted me to ask if anyone knows of a A5 160gsm bright white journal but with square graph type paper rather than dot grid?? Thanks in advance.
I’ve been asking about this for years. I think the only thing that comes close is Hemlock and Oak
I think Scribbles That Matter has something similar 🤔 But they don't ship in New Zealand so I haven't used it myself 😂 - Jess
Thank uou ❤@@KM-nq7hz

Whats the name of the cut edge notebook?
Deceled dekeled deckeled something like that. Deckled edge. Ah that’s what happens when I used the voice to text helper.
Yes, Deckled edges. This one was from the Halloween collection for A&O, but they sometimes add it to other notebooks as well.
