It's whacky that the two of you are making a podcast together, I found Mark through "fountain pen ink on paper", and Jashii through "structuring my life" searches, lol and here I am now, obsessed with journals.
We were given planners in highschool but I hated how they wanted me to follow the way it was set up. I didn't know how awesome I could have been making my planner until a few years ago.
Planning began in middleschool for me, too! We didn't have pre-printed school agendas yet, but I wrote down lots of notes and reminders of when an assignment was due in my school notebooks. Then in Highschool, when agendas became a thing, I used them ALL THE TIME. In college I moved to the A5 sized pre-printed planners in Walmart and Hobby Lobby. It wasn't until 2018 that I discovered Bullet Journaling, and I've been doing it since. I went down the gradual planning pipeline from just planning stuff to budgeting in a bullet-journal style, tracking reading, to (finally!!) successful budget planning/tracking.
Growng up in Europe, I've been planning since primary school. We would use horizontal planner to write homework. It was very basic, then once I got to junior high school i started doodling in the corner. Now i have the planner and the bullet journal. I love using an index in my journal. I'd fill it at the very start of it with no page numbers, then when im done with my journal I'd put in page numbers on each page and put them in the index. So much easier to find things
Excellent Jess and Mark. I had such a Déjà vu when Mark talked about wanting to work in an office as kid! I had those exact fantasies because of the office supplies, haha! I still love fountain pens and anything stationary as well as art supplies to this very day (I‘m 58). Looking forward to more!
I found this type of podcasts great for the creators, because usually in videos the conversation is kind of one sided, I'm glad you two get to share your knowledge and experiences.
Ever since I heard Jess on Mark's podcast I was like "gimme more!" - and would you look at that, there's a whole new podcast 🥳 Congrats on releasing the first episode!
I am not a Bujo person. Tried it ages ago. Been planning for decades. I keep going back to rings. Yet I love this podcast. You two are awesome. I’ve followed Jashi for a long time. I’m still sticking with my Tomoe River Paper! Absolutely looking forward to the next episode… be it about Bujos - it’s all planning.
All about people finding planning systems that work for them, so heck yeah for knowing what you like! 😄 Glad you're looking forward to the next episode 🥳
Two of my favourite planner peeps doing a podcast I can watch! - Sign me up. Thank you for this, I didn't know I needed it but Hell yeah keep em coming :)
I am so excited...my two favorite content creators and bullet journalers. I loved this episode and I am excited about the next and to hear what you all have to say about the actual bullet journal process.
Love this conversation. I'm fairly new to bullet journaling and already seeing changes to my needs. Things I originally thought I didn't need I'm trying and finding it works for me. Also giving myself permission to change things month to month.
Dear Jess, I started bullet journaling in November to help my mental health and discord after moving accross Europe. I graduated as a teacher, and I wish I started planning sooner. I tried to use one journal which is a complete replica of you daily journal haha, but I grew out of it so fast! Now I have a separate reading journal and I went back to basics, as I realised it is very much needed for me right now to stick to simplicity. My journaling journey is all because of you, so THANK YOU! And Mark, it is lovely to meet you through this podcast! I am looking forward to seeing more of your channel and this podcast 😊
Thanks Ivona! Love the reflection process for you to come to simplifying your system; I’m all about people finding systems that work for them 💪 glad the podcast could introduce you to Mark too! 💜 Jess
Great to see this podcast! I am in my first month of bullet journaling and so pleased that I can follow you both on your new journey with all of us! Congratulations on getting this started up!
just got off work and im so ready to listen!! 😁 edit: instagram and all of it's changes are really not thinking about the creators and artists that are trying to grow. 😞 it has gotten so much worse and i don't know if i have high hopes of it improving in favor of anything other than making money 😅
Two of my favourite Bujo creators together ❤ Always to hear your insights and enthusiasm into planning. I can definitely relate to the tagging on Instagram. I use my journal as a planner but also as an art journal and neither Instagram or TH-cam like when you can’t post everyday 😂
I've watched every one of Jess's videos (wish I was so talented) and recently starting watching some of Mark's. Glad the two of you are working together and have this podcast! Can't wait for the next one!
My children only want to journal...None of them want to use a planner, yet either. 😅 I've been planning for over 10 years and I just setup my first Bujo Journal recently. I have an index in the front, so far it's been helpful. But I don't use it that often. ☺️
I always considered the CURRICULUM (I taught elementary school) secondary. I focused on building academic skills. Long-term planning. Breaking assignments into smaller bite-sized pieces. I figured knowing that George Washington being the first president won't nearly be as useful as knowing HOW to manage time. :)
Absolutely intrigued having you both on 1 podcast! Different styles in planning and bujo but very similar in the organization side of it. Y'all are both amazing! ❤
Nice first episode. I'm just getting started with bullet journalling so am looking forward to what you both have to say. (I'm a stationery nerd too! :)
I use an LTC journal because of watching you, Jess! It makes so much sense in my brain. Plus, I really disliked having to remake those pages every 4 months when I migrated to a new bujo. 😂
I’m still using an index and would love page numbers in A&O. Mostly I’m in one notebook but will be adding in a long term collection soon. I love bujo’ing because it is whatever I need it to be. If my brain was a simpler (or maybe stronger) widget I’d not need the flexibility. My life is also not a stationary widget so I need to change things up due to the reality of ALL THE THINGS Yall are great!
I used planners in highschool as well and even have them still. They were the Quo Vadis Forum Student planner. The transition to bullet journal was a little bit hard because I tried to use two planners at once. Now I use bullet journal as my main planner and I have a separate journal just to write down my daily thoughts. I also try to draw more in general. Habit trackers never worked for me. I'm excited for your new podcast and can't wait for the next episodes!
@@PlannerPalsPodcast I really should start youtube and do some flip through my old planners 😂😂 All the memories... I''m a very sentimental person and wasn't able to threw them away.
I still use horizontal layouts, not for habit trackers, but for other trackers (sleep, work hours, energy levels) because it creates a chart, and I'm a bit of an Excel nerd 😆 As for hashtags, as a small instagram account, I use quite a few, it doesn't work that well, but if I use like only 3 of them, I get eve n less engagement lol (I'm not doing it for the likes but it's still sad to see you get barely any likes compared to a few years before)
I needed this! I'm still new in my BUJO journey, under a year still here, but this longer form without having to see the spreads being made was perfect for doing chores around the house! Please tell me you both are on Spotify!?
Love this podcast! For me, I started in ancient times with a Franklin Planner. My husband had one, & I was envious. I have tried various other planners over the years (paper & digital) & couldn’t keep up with them. Bu-Joing is the only system that I have ever loved & used every day. A big problem for me is that I’m a graphic designer for a busy university. I feel creatively exhausted at the end of the day. Then I see all these pretty, creative pages & feel yucky because mine is not. 🫤 I have enough supplies to start my own store - leftovers from my scrapbooking phase. I suppose it’s ok to be plain as long as it’s functional. 😊
Totally feel you on the leftovers from scrapbooking days; my supply stash still have relics from mine! (Looking at you, Creative Memories corner rounder 👀) 💜 Jess
As a designer I feel you on this! Sometimes we just need an opposite to our regular lives to make balance. My role isn’t as design heavy now so my bujo is my way to get it into my life more.
Crossover we didn’t know we needed but we definitely want 😃
Always appreciate being wanted, haha 🧡 Glad you're here too! 💪
Yay!!! So happy to hear it. Jess is the best partner in journaling crime.
literally, the only two planner people I regularly consume content from.
Haha 😂 match made in heaven then 👏
Thank you for uploading this to YT as well as wherever you're sharing podcasts. I am very visual and this works better for me :)
Most welcome! Figured we might as well have it on TH-cam considering we’re both here already 😄
Thank you so much for the video! I am hard of hearing, so podcasts do not work for me, but videos with subtitles do.
We are so happy to hear it and we will continue to include subtitles on our content.

I finally had a chance to watch/listen to this. Love. Love. Love. You guys are so great to listen to. You balance each other out so well❤📖
Thanks! Glad you liked it! 😄
I found this type of podcasts great for the creators, because usually in videos the conversation is kind of one sided, I'm glad you two get to share your knowledge and experiences.
Our thoughts exactly 👏 nice to have someone to bounce ideas off and share a different perspective 😄
Ever since I heard Jess on Mark's podcast I was like "gimme more!" - and would you look at that, there's a whole new podcast 🥳 Congrats on releasing the first episode!
Haha thanks! The first collab on the Hobbyist Hangout was a great time, so we wanted to do more 🥳

That's the great part about a DIY system like bullet journaling. You can change and tweak it to suit yourself and suit different life seasons 👌
As a long-time follower of both of you, I'm absolutely loving this collaboration! Looking forward to the next episode 🙂
Glad you’re looking forward to it! 😄 thanks for being here with us 💪
Love this! Can’t wait for the rest of the episodes 🫶🏻

Today is a good day! I'm so happy you 2 joined forces! Can't wait for the next one!
Haha thanks Kirsten! 😄 We think it's a good match (buuuuut we might be biased 😂)
So much fun! I lied how you talk about why the systems that you do work for you.
Glad the topic was interesting for you! 😄
A box with nobbly bits! Lol 😂
Adding it to my list of things that Jess says. - Mark
Thank you for such a wonderful episode! Loving the video format :)

Thanks Denise! 😄💜
Oh Boho Berry! That's where I started too 😂 I still have some of her stickers!
Nice 😝 she was a big source of inspiration!
Loved listening to this! I still have a 5year diary I wrote in age 10-15 and it has been hilarious looking back with the kids 😂
I'm super keen to see what get's captured in mine over the next few years; will make for a great memento to look back on! 💜 Jess
Maybe this is a good Inspiration for me to keep up with mine. Make it more about the family and less just me. Fun to look back on
