We've had our Berkey for about a year now and we are so happy with it. No more buying and lugging cases of water home. No more drinking from those plastic bottles and we have so much less trash too. We have the big berkey for 2 of us and fill it every day. I clean it once a month. Thanks for letting us know about the Berkey!

Thank you. Just cleaned mine after an embarrassing amount of time 🤦🏻♀️ I have been very intimidated by doing it but it was so easy! Took about 20 minutes maybe less.
We’ve had our royal berkey for about a year now, your video to clean the filters refreshed my memory, made me a little more confident to get it done. Thanks
I just cleaned our Berkey last night! I did a little more in depth cleaning though, including cleaning the bottom reservoir and spout. I did get inspired, however, by your previous Berkey video I watched and went and bought one. We're pleased with the purchase and everyone likes drinking the filtered water. It would help if you made a video on testing the water. Thanks for all the inspiring videos you make! God bless you and your family!
My Berkey just arrived today. I purchased a bundle and used your link. Tonight I am watching your vlogs on all thing Berkey and am very excited to set it up tomorrow and get going with it. Goodbye to purchasing multiple gallon jugs of purified water in plastic containers! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and sharing so that I have a better understanding of setting it up and maintaining it.
Hi Lisa, You inspired me many months ago to purchase The Big Berkey. We are a family of 4, love it and haven't looked back. We also have well water and wanted our water to be and taste as pure as possible. It is amazing. We need to clean ours because of the hard water so thanks for the updated video.
we have a bit of arsenic in ours .... one thing I can tell you is when they did the test on well water at the community garden It had some arsenic in it
Thanks for reminding me that mine needs a good clean as well! Not sure if you do, but I would recommend that you also unscrew the tap bit where the water comes out and give that a good soak in vinegar and clean it. Stuff can really build up in it and it can become quite disgusting
I do not use anything abrasive with my Berkey. I use vinegar to remove the lime deposits by soaking each piece in a huge stainless steel pot until the grit is removed. I use another pot for the top because the deposits are black due to the filters, no scrubbing and I use a microfiber cloth to keep it looking as if I just purchased it. My Berkey was purchased in early 2018. I live near volcanos in Albuquerque, NM so I have the white and black one to have great tasting water. I have well water but that water is not drinkable due to extensive black mold since I live in the city.
Love our Berkey!!! It's time to clean ours as well. Thank you for the video but thank you more for your original video that made me research and buy a berkey in Australia. Best thing we ever did for our tank water xo
I LOVE our Berkey water filter!! We’ve had it about 3 years now and I don’t know what we would do without it! Especially when we were renting.. the building had old pipes and the water sometimes came out orange 😝 Now our house has town water and when I did a water test there is fluoride and even some traces of pesticides in the water here. We are in a heavy agricultural area 😕. Your filters looked so clean before you even cleaned them! I clean ours about every 3 months and they will have orange goop on them 😝😝😝!! I’ve always used hot water, so I’m glad I watched your video! 😊
when it comes time for the kitchen reno, will you keep us updated? I just love the day to day work, not just a before or after....I love your house so much I can't get enough viewing of it.
@@FarmhouseonBoone yes and we can see the chaos and the unexpected that always pop up with a house that age, the highs and the lows, that is what makes a reno feel so good when it is finished. the journey can be just as compelling as the finish, as is in anything in life. the journey is the now. present. We've had a Berkey for around 3 years and decided a purchase a second one. Curious if you've ever heard of the water POURING through the filters? We have a travel size (1.5 gallon) and these new filters take the water from the top, to the "clean" bottom in 10 minutes. We've primed them twice with no change. Our old Berkey, the water drip from the filters... never has the water poured through. The red dye does not get through the filters. I thought it was odd, so I asked the company to send us a new set and the new filters do the exact same thing... "filters" in 10 minutes or less. We may pay to have the water tested as I'm curious just how well these new filters are doing (not sure if Berkey changed anything??). Soooo frustrating.
I have a question. How do you know when you have to change the filters? I know they are good for a long time, but will you know when they need to be replaced? Thanks, I love your videos. God Bless,✝️☮️
I'm going to clean mine today, but I've only had it since February of 2023, and it always has about 3 inches of water that never drains. Is that the way it should be?
I was looking at you cabinets. Any chance you could have them painted and replace the counter tops? Maybe that would be cheaper then gutting it. Just an idea. 🤔
Hey there great video but quite sure you needed to reprime the filters after cleaning to push the dislodged gunk out of the small holes before reinstalling it.
Just a quick note before anyone purchases the Berkey stainless spigot. They are available on ebay for much less. I paid $10 (Canadian) each for the 3 I own. I've used them over the years for water juice containers that sit on the counter and I've never had any trouble with them. I finally bought a Big Berkey a few months ago and installed one of my stainless spigots on it and it works perfectly. The first time I used it there were a few drops of water that leaked out but then it sealed right away and it's been great since. It's exactly the same spigot Berkey dealers sell but for much less. I'll put a link here for the Canadian ebay site but if it doesn't work, just do a search for "stainless steel spigot" and they'll come up. www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR3.TRC0.A0.H0.Xstainless+steel+spigot.TRS0&_nkw=stainless+steel+spigot&_sacat=0 ebay.com (the first and third, etc. spigot) www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=stainless+steel+spigot&_sacat=0
So the booklet (from berkeyfilters) says to re-prime the black filters after doing this cleaning ("scraping off the top layer" of the filter to get to the next layer), but I've yet to see anyone on youtube doing that repriming after cleaning. The priming is actually the biggest pain of this water system. And the reason I'm also long overdue for doing its first cleaning. So why isn't anyone repriming, and if not necessary, why does the booklet say to do it? Also, should you red-test the water again? I mean, how can you know it's properly filtering after cleaning?... since there's the possibility that the filters weren't replaced properly, tightened enough or whatever. And how can you even know that the fluoride filters are working properly? Just gotta trust that it is?
Okay, so I made the above comment before I saw you mention the red-testing. But you didn't mention that the red-testing shouldn't be done on the fluoride filters. It would ruin them.
How did you know that your municipality was adding stuff to your water? Where did you find that out? Or did you just test your water with another company?
Have you had your water tested for arsenic? We have the white filters for arsenic, our township doesn't have fluoride in the water. I thought you had to clean the filters every 6 weeks? Water seems to not flow much out of the bottom half of the filters. Any ideas on how to improve? 😊 Thanks
Fluoride is naturally occurring in ground water too, so you might still need the fluoride filter. But I don't know if you can send the water off for testing? Berkey recommend taking it all apart and cleaning the top and bottom out once a month, but it depends on a number of factors. 4-6 weeks is best, but 2 months should be fine for moat people that have relatively clean water to start with. If you don't feel like cleaning the whole system every 4-6 weeks, just remove the top and clean the bottom chamber where the filtered water collects with soap and water and reassemble and them go for full strip down clean every 4-6 months of the top chambers also. It would help if you made a video on testing the water. Thanks for all the inspiring videos you make! God bless you and your family!
I need to make that video! It s really cool to see it actually filtering out even the dyes!
