It's also kinda hilarious yet stupid at the same time when the omnitrix did time out on Ben at a bad time in the episode when Ghostfreak/Zs'Skayr returned in season 3 he had a chance to possess Ben's body like he wanted to when he first broke out of the omnitrix.
But in classic villain fashion he starts monologuing instead.
Though there were some gags I found funny in Ben 10 like when sometimes the watch would give Ben the wrong alien that was funny if it happened every once in a while, though while I like omniverse I feel like they used that gag way to much

It has a timer of exactly 10 minutes in a transformation and a 10 minute cool down. The watch wasnt meant to be a weapon, it was a research tool, so it needs to limit what someone can do with it.
With master control being a thing I never understood the point of the timeout in universe especially if azimuth had no intention of it being a weapon it makes no sense for him to limit it

Despite the watch timing out at the worst times and changinghim into the wrong aliens, you gotta give respect to the writers because it forces Ben to get creative in really close situations where he could have died...Plus it's really good for suspense...
If my memory serves me correctly, The reason why Ben would always get the wrong aliens at times is because Azmuth stated that Ben kept slapping the Omnitrix too hard causing it to reset.

The Watch chooses the alien for Ben and forces him to strategize with what he has and makes him a smarter user instead of choosing Humungasaur for every episode (like what I wanted as a child)

The truly crappy part is that you never knew when it would time out, Ben was gray matter for hours and never reverted back. But when he was anyone else he was always on a very short time limit, I do like that they gave a reason later on that him constantly smashing down on the face plate was messing with it by damaging components. But the randomized transformations being the watch knowing feels a like an excuse because if it was aware it wouldn’t crap out and the worst possible times.

He still slammed the recalibrated one, and that one gave him the right alien always. It wasn’t until Ben and Kevin tried to hack the omnitrix that it went back to giving him the wrong alien at times. Not cause he kept slamming it.

There was a lot of bad things about the omnitrix. If it malfunctioned, you could be switching into the aliens at random, or the alien forms would mix.
@@jantheking7028 there was a lot because the first omnitrix that we see in the show is the prototype, in the others shows(like alien force) omnitrix has improoved himself due to ben's new needs or ben just get an "upgrade version"(sometimes correcting some bugs in the process, like the timer)

I always loved relating to folks who had the same experience growing up with the amazing cartoons such as Justice League Unlimited Batman animated and ben 10. The comments were present just one or two years ago. Now completely gone. It feels like a great tragedy.

That explains why the comments is still available a year later. It's not often I come across a Ben 10 video that isn't marked for kids.
Ghostfreak, to me, was always legitimately terrifying, in both his regular and true form. When Ben opened up his chest and those tentacles came out at Bozo, that actually scared me. His true form, just seethed creepiness, with his upside down head, long claws, and decaying body. He always scared me.
That reason alone is why I felt like Ghostfreak was the most evil of Ben's villains. Dude just took pride in the fear he caused compared to Vilgax who just wanted the Omnitrix to take over the world.
Personally, I wouldn't have minded if Ghostfreak became the final boss of the series in the original continuity.

The whole reason for the time out was to avoid the prototype Omnitrix permanently altering Ben’s DNA as Asmuth was still working on it. Which is why it rebooted in alien force and no longer timed out
Nope...it was because Ben didn't have access to the master codes or something...in the later seasons after a million tries he figures out the master control and fights effortlessly against vilgax and kevin...

The original Omnitrix was a prototype, but to Classic Ben 10K, Secret Of The Omnitrix likely never happened (it'll be apparent why i think this in a moment). Here, it's based more on time than energy consumption, prone to glitching, and is generally unstable. This is also connected to the Codon Stream, a small bank of Alien samples that are then stored on the watch itself. Also, given that C-Ben 10K used both Grey Matter and Upgrade to unlock and upgrade the Proto-omnitrix, that means Azmuth never tried to retrieve the Omnitrix, or bothered to even look for it. (Or, like Ben 23, did try, but Ben defeated or un-alived Azmuth)
According to Omniverse (which is the same timeline as Classic, AF and UA) Ben didn't take the Omnitrix off until he was at least 11, then puts it back on at 15/16, where it auto-updates into the AF Watch. This is based moreso on Ben's physicality and energy (hence why he transforms back when KO'd), though most glitches has been fixed. This version is connected to the planet Primus, which wirelessly connects all DNA to the U-Omnitrix. Ben should look down at his dial more often here, since most mis-transformations are his fault, and it also doesn't detransform until Ben and Kevin mess with the Omnitrix, putting it into Safety Mode.
In Ultimate Alien, the Ultimatrix is made by Albedo, meaning it's not official. That ALSO means it doesn't fully benefit as a upgrade, leading into the Ultimates gaining sentience. It's still based on Energy rather than time, though, it seems it has a larger capacity now. This one also never Times out. It's unknown whether this is connected to Primus or Codon (though i believe it's Primus)
The New Omnitrix (from Omniverse, but was given to Ben at the end of Ultimate Alien by Azmuth) is the fully realized product of the Omnitrix. It doesn't time out, run out of energy, has a species lock, or mistransforms by itself. It also can store and display more aliens at once.
It still did actually, it just never made a sound.
As an adult you realize the timer served as a great way of balancing out the ridiculously OP nature of the Omnitrix, as well as give stakes to Ben's fights.

It's so heartwarming to see that despite the original franchise ended eight years ago, there are still a lot of people who are interested in it and still either post or watch such videos. I used to watch Ben 10 occasionally when it was first launched(was 4 years old when the first episode was broadcasted) and the only thing I regret is that it took me over 17 years to truly discover its magic. It's so nice and nostalgic to see videos like this

I like how sometimes it turns him back almost instantly, but then sometimes the beeping continues for a solid thirty seconds.
I think it's because if it would leave him in a really dangerous situation with little to no warning it alerts him earlier to prepare
The Omnitrix is sentient, or at least, semi sentient. Of all the times it has timed out, it hasn’t timed out in situations that would otherwise kill its host. In those situations, it would prolong the transformation, but at the cost of a longer than normal recharge
I always imagined the longer/shorter timeouts were Ben's perception of it.
When he really needs to fly a bit longer it seems to suddenly time out fast. When he is thinking really quick about where to hide his identity it seems to take a long while to timeout. Things like that!

Honestly man, I’m glad the writers implemented this feature. Without the timing out, Ben would win almost 100% of the time. It was a nice balance that made tension still present, because it meant that Ben couldn’t rely on his aliens 24/7.

whenever ben 10 used the omnitrix, he can only be a specific type of alien for a limited time of 10 minutes. or you could just refer to firestone animation's interpretation of how the omnitrix works for each ben.

Time based for the most part but there *are* instances of Ben getting a quick recharge because he's in danger and one very notable instance of a transformation lasting like... maybe a minute tops because a previous transformation was forcibly extended to last a much longer length of time.
I remember reading the timer is a failsafe to prevent abuse and misuse of the watch for its wearer, limiting its use to only 10 minutes every hour. The watch also gave Ben the wrong alien because the ai is designed to give the best alien to use in a scenario. However, prolonged bonding unlocks the watch's failsafes when you want its trust, eventually turning off the timer, giving quick alien switching, and allowing the user to choose whatever alien they want with no ai interference

As a kid, actually up till now, I thought it was just a "battery low" kinda thing... It always confused me that the watch would find it more battery efficient to turn Ben back into a Human than to keep him as whatever alien he was at that time. I'd question why, how it worked, and what it was actually doing to Ben. This... THIS... makes so much more sense. Like the watch needs to know it can trust the user, and adjust the user to experiencing the effects, like it was making sure no one got stuck in a form they didn't want, and no one could just use alien powers constantly and forever.
I think Azmuth once explained that Ben sometimes transform into the wrong aliens because he kept slamming the omnitrix instead of pressing it properly, which in theory could nudge the option dial into the next alien in line before the transformation
part of it was the omnitrix using the right alien and part of it is because ben slams his omnitrix too hard
@Paulo SM strong chance the aliens had some ability that would allow the situation to play out more smoothly, but ben was just too impulsive and quick to react to ever consider those options as options.

As a child this absolutely irritated me, I knew for a fact that whenever this happened, and in the original Ben 10 show it happened nearly every episode it was always going to turn off at the worst possible time, that is until Ben acquired the master code for it. I’ve watched many great animated shows that ruled my childhood, as I was born in 2007, and this by far is the best one that I’ve rewatched, as I child I loved the fighting and the transformations but didn’t think twice of Ben’s actual lore, as a 16 year old, I now realize that Ben was just an eager child trying to catch up with his sister, as he realized that she was always better than him, he accidentally got over his own head, and realized what he could do with this power, at first he used it recklessly, then realized that if it got in the wrong hands people that he loved like his sited and his uncle could die, so he cherished it like none other, and trained intellectually and physically, this only happens in Ultimate, in Ben 10 Ben is just a child, in Ultimate he’s a responsible properly developed teenager, and in the sequel he’s an adult man working for an organization. Ultimate was by far my favorite. And it was LONG.

I just started to watch it again and I am 22 years old... I kind of looking for nostalgia.
You realize that Vilgax is really powerful when Ben can fight him using Master Control and still got bagged, he could only hold him for a time to Max and Gwen to run.

That sound effect gives me so much nostalgia. This used to be my favorite cartoon from when I was 4 years old to 11 years old. I played all the flash games, watched all the TH-cam videos, and drew all the aliens. This show raised me.

But a human with a device that turns him into an alien is Ultraman.
I was a Ben 10 fan first, but ever since I discovered Ultraman, I just notice more and more similarities.
Even one of Ben's Aliens (Waybig) is LITERALLY just Ultraman.
They even named his species Tokustar which sounds like Tokusatsu (the genre stuff like Ultraman, Power Rangers and Godzilla belong to)
But my favorite similarity is that both heroes have a timer that beeps and flashes red when they're about to turn back into human.

My favorite episode ever was when he messed with it and actually used its full potential, with no time limits and without having to press it all the time, just thinking about an alien to transform into it. I never got over the fact that he was never able to do that again

I'd say ben had a pretty good guess on how long it took the watch to time out. But in the heat of battle you can't really tell how much time has passed. Add to that the fact that he's only 10 years old and might not have the best sense of time

Plus, I just read another comment up top that made sense: The Omnitrix is AI-powered and detects the situation such that it doesn't always give Ben the alien he wanted...but the alien that was needed.

I still remember that one episode when Azmuth explains why the watch times out quickly and why it keeps choosing the wrong alien….my guess is because the times that Ben SLAMS the watch so hard when all you had to do is just press it with your finger
Which he only did in the first episode if I remember right. But once he realize it was a "transform into an alien watch thing" he just resorted to slamming his big meaty claws on it.

This is why Ben unlocking master control was always one of my fav eps in the original series
My biggest problem with this was that it always took as much time as the writers wanted for it to actually change him back once it started beeping. Sometimes it's a second and a half, sometimes it's like 20.
I think the Kevin Levin fight as Four Arms is maybe the worst example of this where it's timing out for a full 45 seconds of screentime compared to the normal 3 seconds.
That being said I don't think that's actually on the writers. Scripts are a hard medium to perceive time in and what on paper might look like 5 seconds may in actuality take a full minute, especially if the 5 seconds in the script involve a lot of action that has to be animated.
I like to think that the watch had some form of knowing if Ben was in a real life-death situation and would prolong the beeping time to give him a chance.
All the other times that it insta beeped out, Ben wouldn't really die by going back to human, but against Kevin, for example, he would've be done for. So the Omnitrix prolonged the timer until Ben felt he was no longer dead by turning back🎉

I always interpreted it as a warning sign. Basically the omnitrix saying “Yo, you gotta hurry up, I only have so much power left.”
This was actually interesting, as a kid we all hated the fact that the watch trolled him at the worst times but now that we're grown up, we understand that the watch was trying to teach him that no matter what powers you get, they're useless if not used at the proper time and situation and then we could see in the next season that he used it way better when he grew up

I never liked the sound, but I'd still love to have an omnitrix. Mainly because that means there are aliens in real life as well and I have the best tool to use for everyday activities. Also I would never pass up the chance to transform into Diamond head, XLR8, Big Chill, GrayMatter/Brainstorm, Upgrade and Clockwork
if omnitrix existed, then that would mean that hunters for it would exist too. You would've have to fight Vilgax everyday

Definitely one of my favorite aspects of the first series. The Omnitrix malfunctions a lot. It times out and sometimes picks a different Alien than Ben’s choice. I do love that he a unlocked new aliens as he progressed through the show.
Ben 10k must have Vietnam flashbacks whenever he hears it.
This is something I wish the Ultimate Alien Force era, Omniverse, and the reboot had kept. In those series, Ben would time out but would instantly go right back to being an alien in less than a few seconds. I always felt that ruined the tension and suspense by having Ben go alien so quickly.

That’s because in the later series Ben could choose to revert back whenever he wanted, the Omnitrix was actually upgraded instead of just a prototype and he didn’t smack the shit out of it.
The canonical reason for the timeouts is that because Ben kept slamming the watch face down aggressively with his whole fist when he transformed, instead of just pressing it down normally with one or two fingers, it would set a random time to time out due to a chronometer within the watch becoming loose.
To be fair, Ben’s opponents also were pretty extreme at times lol

As an example related to the timer it's shown in classic the timer only turns Ben human if he stays the same alien for 10 minutes so in multiple cases if Ben switches the timer resets to 10 minutes.
Also the whole smack the omnitrix is dumb and is kinda a retcon, as an example remember the time when azmuth jumped on the omnitrix to transform Ben (in classic), how azmuth didn't softly press the omnitrix when he had it, how paradox tells Ben to hit the omnitrix, how albedo slams his omnitrix (mind you the one he built and should be worse and albedo should know since he worked with azmuth it's bad to slam )
Personally I think it was just a thing in Omniverse and a fault of the completed omnitrix

I honestly like that despite being a super-advanced alien artifact, the Omnitrix still malfunctions sometimes. Turns out you can't make 100% perfect technology
Indeed it took azmuth 6 years to develop the complete omnitrix and yet it's still not 100% perfect but it's pretty close to it like 97% that's really close

I always liked the sound that was made where, somehow the omnitrix was timing out but held out a few seconds longer than normal, making a totally different stress noise.

You can share your thoughts but me personally. I love the original design of the omnitrix. The aliens looked unlike anything I could imagine at the time, insane power yet so broken. It's the charm of how the most powerful yet self-destructive device put into the hands of a ten year old. An it actually gave Ben a real challenge, every fight was on a time limit.
I think this a fitting balance check for the most powerful weapon in the universe...

Becayse the Omnitrix has failsafes to protect Ben so it can extend the timer in situations like that or just turn him into a Alien automatically to protect him
