  • In this video, I show you how to write songs-and specifically lyrics-like Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, and John Mayer.
There is a particular type of song and songwriting that these three songwriters have in common-it's a way to write songs that lots of songwriters use: metaphor songs. I start by defining metaphor, and share the principles and methods for creating original ideas, and furnishing them with great lyrics, just like these songwriters.

I'm not a fan of Swift but I had to listen to the song because I found it interesting there were virtually zero rhymes in the lyrics and had to hear how she made it work. I was collaborating last weekend and was told my lyrics sound good but don't rhyme so they're out. I'm keeping this song in my back pocket for next time.

Hey there! Swift is a master of using slant rhyme. On the page, it may not look like there's a ton of rhyme, but take a listen, and your very smart ears will reveal all the rhyme: know/ball/floor/beautiful - dear/heels - regulars/revelers - fit in/listen... ;)

What a great video. This is the first time I've had the pleasure to learn about metaphor being deconstructed like this. Super interesting. My brain is still chewing on what you had to say. Thank you.

Hey Chin! Would you mind emailing me at keppie@howtowritesongs.org, and we can figure it out there? It might be a simple issue of the payment cycle on Patreon, but better to have the conversation via email, if that's okay.

Fun fact: john mayer date taylor in the 2009 when he was 32 and she only 19, manipulating her and playing the victim

Step 1: hire a team of 20 of the best industry writers and pay them enough money that they’ll give up credit for their work. Step 2: claim the song as your own.

Taylor wrote/co-wrote all of her songs, though. She was literally hired as a songwriter in a record label at 14, and wrote a whole album by herself at 19

Why would you want to? Just strum the G, C, and D chords on your guitar, sing some cheesey "oh baby I love you" lyrics, add a few artificial sounds and you have a Taylor swift song. It's easier than learning your A B C's

    • @gregorydavidson177

@@silverhandle well it won't happen because I wouldn't sell out my true self to a bunch of Hollywood, illuminati elites in order to become one of these low life, pathetic artists listed in the description. As far as writing a song like these cheesey people write, a baby could do it.

You might not know this, but the singles aren't the standard for most of her songs. I really recommend her albums Folklore and Evermore, they have amazing lyrics
