  • Filming locations for Series 2 of the classic British sitcom 'Open All Hours'. Open All Hours ranked eighth in the 2004 Britain's Best Sitcom poll, and Series 2 aired in 1981, almost 40 years ago now. This video is a follow-up to my Series 1 video and shows the filming locations used in Series 2 around the Doncaster area.
Unlike Series 1 I have identified all the locations used in Series 2, with the possible exception of the Church used in the wedding scene which is a 'best guess' based on the windows and the fact it was used in earlier episodes. I attempted to get hold of the parish records for the church (it is now a private residence) but the Doncaster archives are currently unavailable due to relocation.
Locations include Lister Avenue (the shop and Nurse Glady's house), various streets around Balby and Edlington, Doncaster, along with several scenes around the east of the Town Centre.
I will be working on Series 3 & 4 shortly, which will be a combined video as there were considerably fewer external shots in the last 2 series, plus a lot of them are repeats of locations shown in these first 2 videos.
    Hope you enjoy!

This is amazing. Thanks so much for taking the time to compile this. The original Open All Hours is one of my all time favourites from the 70s & 80s. Great to see the filming locations now, although a little sad that those days have long since gone.

What an amazing piece of work!!! You have pinpointed the most minute details one can ever imagine. This work would be a big reference point in history for anyone who have cherished the episodes and would be able to relate it with the present times through your work. Excellent work! God bless you!

I couldn't believe it when I saw the Balmoral Hotel, I used to walk past it regularly on the way to school (DGS) and the later on going to the Salutation.

fantastic video. i've always been a massive fan of open all hours. my mum got Ronnies autograph when filming in Edlington where i live. I've always wondered where the scenes were filmed when they were travelling in the Morris Minor. As it happens, about a mile from my house. I met Sir David and Lynda Barron when filming a few years ago and got they're autographs.

I love how you worked out the distance travelled from the shop.

Thanks! It made me chuckle to see the scene and know how far apart the locations are!

@@um20uk Same, that was epic lol. Not sure if he could see his actual shop door with binoculars from over a mile away, but hilarious that he tried! His first love would always be that shop!

I'll always class Doncaster as my second home. For years I always wanted to visit "The shop" and did a few years ago. Best series ever.

Hi, my dad lived in Hexthorpe where some scenes were also shot.
    After a recently
intended nostalgic visit to these parts of the town I was saddened to see the scope of transparent drug dealing and drug abuse.

Hi, yes I am planning on visiting Hexthorpe for the Series 3&4 video, and sadly many parts of Doncaster are struggling these days

I'm working on the S3 and S4 video at the moment, there's not as many outdoor scenes so they'll probably be combined into 1!

Really enjoyed that. Can't wait for Series 3 and 4. I have created a Facebook Group for the locations and linked it to my other Open All Hours Fans! Group with 2.5k members. Be nice if you popped along. Would love to see you stills. I trying to find pictures of Gupta s Store through the years it was a shop. Another hairdresser's at one point. It's number 1 Lister Avenue as you probably know and was put back as a private home around 1985. Cheers

      @um20uk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, I have Gupta's on my list for the next video, it's another example of how they make you believe the location is some distance away when in reality it's 200 yards up the street!
