You can run. From the Octopath speed run wiki: "Running increases the step counter more quickly if you do not have Evasive Maneuvers. If you do have Evasive Maneuvers, there is no difference between running and walking."
June 24th, 2021 - Switch - level 18. Works!! I don’t have Evil Ward, so i just save in the middle of the route both on the way to stairs and on the way back.
Ophelia has the skill to lower encounter rates, and I think another character has a skill that reduces back attacks and such. You can really make the trek super easy, Also making it easier to run away.
I love Tressa lol. With this method of collecting $, saving, give her the warrior ability to attack up to 99,999; Tressa ultimate ability becomes completely murderous to everyone.
UPDATE...it wasnt my level 35 that was a problem...I de-selected my forbidden weapons and IT STARTED TO WORK AGAIN-YAAAAAAAAAAAA !!! AWESOME !!! so you cant have any forbidden weapons selected for it to work !

Provided you have the skills to lower encounter rates and lower the chance of back attacks, It should be super possible
