I moved a couple of years ago to Cyprus and seriously, this channel is a gold mine for those who are seeking to learn Greek, my god, I can't thank you enough guys, you're doing such a good job, thank you so much.
I am greek and I've spent two months in New Zealand last winter. I travelled all the length of the country from south to north island. I never felt unsafe there. I wouldn't rate greece as unsafe in terms of crime but in terms of health and safety in public places like broken pavements and pot holes in the roads.
Hi guys, as an italian that chooses to spend her holidays in Greece since almost 20 years i shoud say that this is a complicated question: i m deeply fascinated by Greece and greek culture and history, as a border land in between europe, middlewest, balcanic countries, and not far from russia and being Greeks great travelers since ever, the issue of safety reflect the complexity of Greece itself. I feel safe in Athens even though travelling alone, and at the same time i get impressed on islands noting how many people die in car accidents. Grece seems to me the country of big contraddictions, something similar happens in Italia, but certainly with less enphasis.
Greek here Athens is easily the place with the highest crime rate, though if you avoid certain areas (especially in the night) nothing will likely happen to you. Other parts of Greece mostly have almost zero crime rates.
Έχω ζήσει στην Γερμανία και στην Ιταλία πριν έρθω στην Ελλάδα. Έχω ταξιδέψει σε πολλές χώρες της Ευρώπης και κάποιες στην Ασία. Νιώθω ασφαλή στην Ελλάδα. Η εγκληματικότητα δεν είναι ψιλή. Βέβαια οικονομικά η Γερμανία προσφέρει μεγαλύτερη ασφάλεια, αλλά όχι και τόσο όσο πιστεύουν οι Έλληνες οι οποίοι τείνουν να υποτιμούν την Ελλάδα και δεν γνωρίζουν τα προβλήματα στις άλλες χώρες. Πχ το ένα παιδί μιλούσε για ακρίβεια και έλλειψη φαρμάκων. Το ίδιο πρόβλημα έχει η Γερμανία, αλλά ο μέσος Έλληνας δεν το ξέρει. Πολλοί Έλληνες που ζουν στο εξωτερικό δεν μιλάνε εύκολα για τα προβλήματα στις χώρες που ζούν, γιατί δεν θέλουν να αμφισβητήσουν την επιλογή τους που συνδέεται και με θυσίες που κάνανε για να πετύχουν εκεί. Αλλά όταν μιλάς με ανθρώπους από αυτές τις χώρες ακούς για προβλήματα.
Ζω Γερμανία 9 μήνες. Δεν κάνω την ζωή που έκανα στην Ελλάδα. Όμως παρόλη την ακρίβεια και την έλλειψη φαρμάκων, προσωπικά, ζω άνετα και εξοικονομώ, όταν στην Ελλάδα δεν έμενε ούτε για δείγμα. Δεν λέω ότι είναι καλύτερα, δεν έχει ήλιο, συνέχεια συννεφιά, χιόνι, κρύο κτλπ. Όμως έχουν κοινωνικό κράτος, χαμηλή εγκληματικότητα και επί το πλείστον ίσες ευκαιρίες παντού και αυτό είναι κάτι που ως Έλληνας με ξεπερνάει. Δυστυχώς.
Ακριβώς έτσι. Πολλοί δεν γνωρίζουν τη ζωή στο εξωτερικό ή έχουν πάει για λίγους μήνες, οπότε είναι ενθουσιασμένοι από το καινούργιο. Εργασιακή ασφάλεια υπάρχει στη Γερμανία, αλλά μόνο σε λίγα κρατίδια υπάρχουν πραγματικές ευκαιρίες. Η Ελλάδα σε αυτή τη φάση είναι πιο οργαμωμένη και στο δημόσιο και στον ιδιωτικό τομέα. online υπηρεσίες που στην Ελλάδα είναι δεδομένες εδώ και χρόνια, δεν υπάρχουν στη Γερμανία. Για να διακόψεις συμβόλαιο σταθερού τηλεφώνου/ίντερνετ, μέχρι πέρυσι ο συνδρομητής έπρεπε να στείλει γράμμα με το αίτημα διακοπής έως και 3 μήνες πριν από τη λήξη συμβολαίου. Πλέον είναι έως και 1 μήνα πριν. Οι συγκοινωνίες στις πόλεις είναι καλύτερες απ' ότι στην Ελλάδα, αλλά οι επαρχία έχει και εκεί προβλήματα. Υπάρχουν χωριά που τα σαββατοκύριακα δεν έχουν λεωφορεία. Όπως επίσης, είναι γνωστό το πρόβλημα με την έλλειψη οπτικών ινών και βασικών σύγχρονων υποδομών για ίντερνετ. Υπάρχουν επίσης ελλείψεις σε φάρμακα και διαθέσιμα ραντεβού σε εξειδεικευμένους γιατρούς και για χειρουργεία. Η ζωή στις μεγάλες πόλεις έχει γίνει τόσο ακριβή, που οι κάτοικοι, ειδικά νέοι και συνταξιούχοι φεύγουν. Οι χαμηλού και μεσαίου εισοδήματος εργαζόμενοι μένουν συνήθως σε άλλες πόλεις. Δυστυχώς σιδηροδρομικά δυστυχήματα υπάρχουν και στη Γερμανία. Στη Βαυαρία είχε πέρυσι δύο. Εγκληματικότητα υπάρχει και εκεί, ανάλογα την περιοχή και την πόλη. Το Μόναχο είναι μία πολύ ασφαλής πόλη, αλλά η Νυρεμβέργη, το Βερολίνο, η Κολωνία έχουν ποσοστά εγκληματικότητας υψηλά. Γυναικοτονία, ρατσιστική βία, κτλ υπάρχουν επίσης. Όσο για την προσβασιμότητα, ούτε στη Γερμανία είναι ειδυλιακά. Έχω δει τραμ να μην δουλεύει μπάρα για τα καροτσάκια και υπάρχει κανάλια στο TH-cam με Γερμανό που είναι τυφλός και δείχνει όλα τα προβλήματα από τις λάθος σημάνσεις στους δρόμους έως και την αντιμετώπιση του κόσμου. Και το τελευταίο είναι ο συντηρητισμός στην επαρχία, βλέπε Βαυαρία. Από την άλλη πλευρά οι Γερμανοί είναι πιο περήφανοι για τη χώρα τους απ' ότι οι Έλληνες στην Ελλάδα. Για κάποιο λόγο οι Έλληνες επιλέγουμε συνεχώς τη φυγή και όχι να κάτσουμε να αλλάξουμε τα πράγματα.

As a Scottish guy living in Greece, I'd say its a very safe country. I see Greeks as being very friendly people generally speaking, friendlier than many other countries. Things do happen, but that happens everywhere.

Εμείς οι Έλληνες μπορεί να τα περνάμε δύσκολα, αλλά είναι στιγμές σαν κι αυτές που μας θυμίζουν ότι πρέπει να είμαστε ενωμένοι σαν γροθιά. Χαίρομαι πολύ που αναφέρθηκε το ζήτημα της προσβασιμότητας!! Στην Ελλάδα δεν υπάρχουν κατάλληλες υποδομές για ασφαλή μετακίνηση ατόμων με κινητικές κι αισθητηριακές δυσκολίες. Είναι κι αυτό ένα ζήτημα που πρέπει να αναδειχθεί.

Ενδιαφέρον να ακούσω διαφορετικές απόψεις. Ως τουρίστας, ένιωθα πάντα ασφαλής στην Ελλάδα. Αλλά παρά την τεράστια υπερηφάνεια των Ελλήνων, άκουγα πολύ συχνά από νεότερους ανθρώπους πόσο πολύ ήθελαν να φύγουν, όχι ίσως μόνιμα, αλλά σίγουρα για δουλειά. Αντίθετα, είμαι από τους που ονειρεύονται να ζήσουν στην Ελλάδα (συγκεκριμένα στην Κρήτη), αλλά συνειδητοποιώ πόσο δύσκολο θα ήταν, ειδικά όταν συγκρίνω την Τσεχία με την Ελλάδα στο World Data. As an American who often visits Greece, I’m fortunate to say that I’m never actively thinking of my safety while traveling throughout Greece because of how safe I feel. My in-laws live in Athens and a noteworthy difference between Greece and America is the security features installed in every home (alarms, security doors, security windows, etc). As an American I want to keep the windows open at night for light and air but I’m always asked to secure the house at night to avoid break-ins. I’d like to think that the level of home security in Greek homes deters people from attempting crime. Maybe I’m still to enchanted by Greece’s beauty to notice any danger around me. I spent 6 weeks in Ελλάδα last summer as a single female traveler. I stayed mainly in Λάρισα but traveled to many smaller cities and villages and spent a couple of days in Λευκάδα and Cyprus and a week in Θεσσαλονίκη. I felt safe absolutely every place I went except Cyprus which reminded me, sadly, of the U.S. I took very long walks during the day and shorter walks very late at night. I never felt threatened although I was always on my guard. I would never, NEVER walk alone at night where I live, and I live in a small (population ~114,000) rural community in the U.S. Even during my daytime walks at home I carry a stun gun and a retractable baton, partly for coyotes and bears and partly for human. My point is, although Greece isn't perfect (tell me a single country that is!), it is a safer country than most overall in terms of crime. I can't speak to the public transportation situation because I have nothing to compare it to. I took a city bus, a long range bus, and a train. All seemed safe, clean, and efficient. I wish this had been the same outcome for those in Τέμπη. Note: In the week following this tragedy, there were at least 3 major train derailments in the U.S. Thankfully none resulted in the death toll that Greek families suffered recently. There were 1,164 train derailments in 2022 in the U.S.
I had known a woman in internet living in Vancouver Seattle. She was flyfishing as a hoby and told me she was fishing alone and always carrying a gun for safety. I really was impressed because i am not familiar to guns since i served in Greek army. As it seems guns is a common thing for US citizens.
@@antimimoniakos Yes, I have a gun as well. It stays in safely in my home. I do not carry it with me in public because I don't have a license to do that. Unfortunately, needing a license is no longer needed in Florida since the lunatic, power-hungry governor passed a law stating Floridians can carry guns around without a license now. This means people don't have to take a gun safety class to carry a gun around town. Absolutely horrifying! I don't like having a gun. It sickens me frankly, but I refuse to allow someone to break into my home with his/her own gun and not put up a fight.

i have to say that we romanians and maybe many other nations feel the same about our own countries… but in the end from someone’s perspective it is not that bad as we make it look!
It is generally a safe country, with the exception of some areas of the two largest cities, namely Athens and Thessaloniki. Crime to some extent exists due to some more marginalized populations such as gypsies who have been deeply involved in drugs for decades and partially due to the suffocating concentration of huge populations of irregular migrants from God-poor and devastated areas of Asia or Africa in some parts, especially around the center of Athens. Some criminal groups from the Balkans have undoubtedly played a role in criminality. In order not to be misunderstood, it is understood that the majority of many of those populations are not related to criminal acts. Finally, the deterioration or stagnation of living standards in general has also played a role, especially after the 2010s, due to the austerity policies implemented
I am from Sweden and I’ve been in greece several times. I can’t remember feeling unsafe except with the traffic. It got really bad last year when our hotel was in a region where people drove like crazy (I don’t know whether they were tourists or natives). They basically didn’t care about traffic lights and I can remember one time trying to cross the road and someone was literally driving while I was walking 😧. Other than that I can’t think of a situation where I’ve been in danger in greece, and I’m going back again in August this year 😀 hopefully with some knowledge (finally) of the greek language.
Θα σου απαντήσω όταν πάω για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα (φέτος ^^). Αλλά σίγουρα δεν νομίζω ότι στην Ελλάδα είναι πιο επικίνδυνο από εδώ στη χώρα μου, το Μεξικό :P
I have visited Greece on several occasions and never felt fear of muggings while walking the streets of Athens or the Islands. However, the only thing that did make me feel unsafe was the use of road crossing and walking on footpaths. I found many private car owners had no respect or patience for the road rules! With transport I mainly used buses and trams and felt safe and confident traveling on them. Furthermore what needs to be understood with developed western nations is, yes they are better organized and more affluent economies. However this has been achieved through higher income and indirect taxes, compared to Greece. Their wages might be higher in comparison with Greece but for many it is not enough to meet their daily expenses. There is no country that is perfect! Greece overall is a safe and a reasonable place to live and yes, there are old systematic problems faced by the people on a daily basis but this can be improved and overcome by a change of attitude on many levels by Greek society.

Such a subjective question! Safe compared to, or relative to where? When someone cites "Wolt" riders ..." doing weird things" as a safety concern, she should go see a few other countries in which bomb blasts (three this week Im aware of), rape, or robbery are a daily and real fact of life.

Ζούσα και ζω στην Ελλάδα. Από τις ΗΠΑ. (Έφυγα να επισκεφτώ την οικογένειά μου για λίγο. αλλά θα επιστρέψω) Και νιώθω ασφαλής στην Ελλάδα. Αυτό ήταν μέχρι που έζησα εκεί για λίγο. Και αυτό γιατί η αστυνομία. Είμαι μισός μαύρος, οπότε δεν κοιτάζω τους περισσότερους ανθρώπους. και γι' αυτό είμαι σαν στόχος για αυτούς. Πάντα με σταματούν, με κάνουν ερωτήσεις, με ψάχνουν. και με στεναχωρεί γιατί με κάνει να νιώθω ότι δεν μπορώ να ζήσω ειρηνικά στο δικό μου σπίτι (χώρα). η αστυνομία με κάνει ήδη ανήσυχο για το πώς με αντιμετωπίζουν στις ΗΠΑ. Και δεν πίστευα ότι η Ελλάδα ήταν έτσι μέχρι να ζήσω εκεί για μεγαλύτερο χρονικό διάστημα. Αλλά, και πάλι το λατρεύω..
Just wanted to point out that there is a huge difference between feeling safe and being safe. Listening to the media can make u feel unsafe even during the day or at a place where it is extremelly unlikely for something to happen to you while being born and raised here might falsely make u feel comfortable and safe even when walking at night in Oμονοια and Εξαρχια. That being said it is generally safe to come here apart from the areas i mentioned and Filopapou hill at night. Most crimes are that of pickpocketing that occur at touristy places. In the islands though it is highly recommended to never walk alone at night (especially if ur a woman) coz there are a lot of drunk tourists during the summer. The bigger the group the better.
Πολλά απ' τα άτομα που συμμετείχαν στο βίντεο πήραν την έννοια της ασφάλειας με την κυριολεκτική, την σωματική έννοια. Η ανασφάλεια που νιώθω εγώ ως 25χρονη Ελληνίδα είναι σε άλλους τομείς. Απ' τα 18 μου είχα ανασφάλεια, άραγε μετά τις σπουδές μου θα απορροφηθώ στην αγορά εργασίας επαρκώς; Θα έχω έναν αξιοπρεπή μισθό; Θα μπορώ ως κοπέλα να γυρίσω μόνη μου σπίτι μου μετά από ένα ποτό χωρίς να φοβάμαι; Τελικά στα 25 μου αποφασίζω να φύγω για κάποια άλλη χώρα της ΕΕ. Με στεναχωρεί βαθύτατα η απόφασή μου, αλλά οι αλλεπάλληλες απογοητεύσεις ανά τα χρόνια και τις κυβερνήσεις με έφεραν σε αυτή τη θέση. Η ελπίδα ήταν εκεί, το κίνητρο να αγωνιστώ και να παλέψω για ένα καλύτερο μέλλον της πατρίδας μου ήταν πηγαίο και ισχυρό. Πλέον έχει χαθεί. ΥΓ: Πολύ σημαντική η αναφορά στην προσβασιμότητα σε ΑΜΕΑ στην Ελλάδα. Είναι οριακά τριτοκοσμική. Όχι μόνο από υποδομές, αλλά και από την ίδια την νοοτροπία των Ελλήνων (πχ αφήνω το μηχανάκι πάνω στο μέρος του πεζοδρομίου που είναι για τυφλούς, παρκάρω σε ράμπα αναπήρων...). ΥΓ2: Αυτό φυσικά είναι η δική μου προσωπική και υποκειμενική άποψη, δεν ισχυρίζομαι σε καμία περίπτωση ότι έχω δίκιο.
Για να το πούμε σωστότερα, "λεμονίτα" έγινε κάποια στιγμή μέσα στην δεκαετία του '90, όπως και το.. χμμ. "καλαμάκι". Παλαιότερα χρησιμοποιούσαν και η Αθηναίοι τις σωστές λέξεις.
@@PlanetIscandarΠολύ παλιά, την δεκαετία του'70, παιζόταν μία διαφήμιση στην ασπρόμαυρη τηλεόραση όπου λεγόταν η λεμονάδα λεμονίτα. Ίσως από 'κει άρχισε. Για το περιβόητο σουβλάκι με καλαμάκι πρέπει να μας πουν οι παλιοί Αθηναίοι.

Ως και στις Ελληνικές ταινίες "λεμονάδα" τη λένε. Όσο για το "καλαμάκι" έχω διαβάσει κάτι που έλεγε ότι παλιά έπαιρναν το ξύλο από καλάμια και έφτιαχναν το σουβλάκι και γι' αυτό και καλά ορισμένοι το έλεγαν "καλαμάκι". Αλλά το θέμα είναι ότι εγώ δεν θυμάμαι να άκουσα ποτέ τη λέξη "καλαμάκι". Αυτές οι λέξεις κοντά ή κατά τη δεκαετία του '90 εμφανίστηκαν.

Best thing I like ABT Greeks in that they are abusive since india had many Colonial attempts worse were caste Hindus frm Iran and muslims. But Greeks never abused native Indian PPL and helped them a lot. Thanks greek PPL.
I love cycling so all the horror stories about Greek driving would scare me to live there. I'm guessing given how many in the video want to live in the bike friendly Netherlands, there must be a lot of frustrated cyclists there? :)
why translate "δεκάδες" as dozens when tens is the correct translation? While in Greek one would not use dozens in describing a number of people, in english you can, but "tens of people" is also correct. I know I'm nitpicking.
Αυτό το βίντεο δείχνει την γνώμη των πολιτών και το αν είναι αποτελεσματικες οι μέθοδοι παραπληροφορησης και χειραγώγησης. Για να έχουμε αποτέλεσμα στο αν η χώρα είναι ασφαλής οι ερωτήσεις θα έπρεπε να έχουν να κάνουν με την ασφάλεια για παράδειγμα "Πόσο συχνά κοιμάστε με ανοιχτή πόρτα ",""Θα περνούσαμε το δρόμο με κλειστά μάτια ","Αφήνετε το παιδί σας εξ στις 3.00" και γιατί. Οι Έλληνες θεωρούν ότι πρέπει να υποστηρίξουν τη χώρα τους όπως και άλλοι ανασφαλείς λαοί. Η Ελλάδα δεν είναι μια ασφαλής χώρα αλλά υπάρχουν ασφαλή σημεία σε αυτήν. Το αν κάποιος μπορεί να επιβιώσει σε αυτήν δεν σημαίνει ότι αποτελεί κριτήριο ασφαλειας!

Well, that must be your fault then. I live and work in downtown Athens for 40 years and the worst thing that happened to me was an attempted burglary (and my car was smashed during a protest by progressive youths).

@@EasyGreekVideos My first point is that broken English, if it mimics the Greek is better than fluent English that does not for learning the language (especially since the sentence structure is so different). My second point is that it is more important to me that I learn the language than that I understand the politics or culture of Greece; the more abstract it becomes, the harder it is. My third point is there is no "easy Greek," έτσι δεν είναι; Sorry for being difficult!
I am very disappointed with this video. You shouldn't have gone out on the streets these days and ask people such a question, as they are very affected by the recent train crash, and obviously many would respond that Greece is an unsafe country. In addition, most people are not properly informed and have a very distorted view of reality. The media does not provide correct information, only sensationalism. If you add to all of this that Greeks have traditionally inexcusably bad image of Greece and their tendency to exaggerate and be pessimistic in order to appear "informed", then we create a completely misleading and false image and feeling about Greece. I consider this video as an attempt by you to propagandize and damage the country's image abroad. Shame...
On the contrary, I think the topic is timely. What better time to talk about safety than now, when it’s in everyone’s minds? As you saw, some people think that Greece is safe anyway, because different people have different concepts of what safety means.

Same here. Even walking through the supposed worst neighborhoods of Athens, it was a walk in the park compared to say a US city
I am greek and I've spent two months in New Zealand last winter. I travelled all the length of the country from south to north island. I never felt unsafe there. I wouldn't rate greece as unsafe in terms of crime but in terms of health and safety in public places like broken pavements and pot holes in the roads.
Hi guys, as an italian that chooses to spend her holidays in Greece since almost 20 years i shoud say that this is a complicated question: i m deeply fascinated by Greece and greek culture and history, as a border land in between europe, middlewest, balcanic countries, and not far from russia and being Greeks great travelers since ever, the issue of safety reflect the complexity of Greece itself. I feel safe in Athens even though travelling alone, and at the same time i get impressed on islands noting how many people die in car accidents. Grece seems to me the country of big contraddictions, something similar happens in Italia, but certainly with less enphasis.

Athens is easily the place with the highest crime rate, though if you avoid certain areas (especially in the night) nothing will likely happen to you.
Other parts of Greece mostly have almost zero crime rates.
Έχω ζήσει στην Γερμανία και στην Ιταλία πριν έρθω στην Ελλάδα. Έχω ταξιδέψει σε πολλές χώρες της Ευρώπης και κάποιες στην Ασία. Νιώθω ασφαλή στην Ελλάδα. Η εγκληματικότητα δεν είναι ψιλή. Βέβαια οικονομικά η Γερμανία προσφέρει μεγαλύτερη ασφάλεια, αλλά όχι και τόσο όσο πιστεύουν οι Έλληνες οι οποίοι τείνουν να υποτιμούν την Ελλάδα και δεν γνωρίζουν τα προβλήματα στις άλλες χώρες. Πχ το ένα παιδί μιλούσε για ακρίβεια και έλλειψη φαρμάκων. Το ίδιο πρόβλημα έχει η Γερμανία, αλλά ο μέσος Έλληνας δεν το ξέρει.
Πολλοί Έλληνες που ζουν στο εξωτερικό δεν μιλάνε εύκολα για τα προβλήματα στις χώρες που ζούν, γιατί δεν θέλουν να αμφισβητήσουν την επιλογή τους που συνδέεται και με θυσίες που κάνανε για να πετύχουν εκεί. Αλλά όταν μιλάς με ανθρώπους από αυτές τις χώρες ακούς για προβλήματα.
Ζω Γερμανία 9 μήνες. Δεν κάνω την ζωή που έκανα στην Ελλάδα. Όμως παρόλη την ακρίβεια και την έλλειψη φαρμάκων, προσωπικά, ζω άνετα και εξοικονομώ, όταν στην Ελλάδα δεν έμενε ούτε για δείγμα. Δεν λέω ότι είναι καλύτερα, δεν έχει ήλιο, συνέχεια συννεφιά, χιόνι, κρύο κτλπ. Όμως έχουν κοινωνικό κράτος, χαμηλή εγκληματικότητα και επί το πλείστον ίσες ευκαιρίες παντού και αυτό είναι κάτι που ως Έλληνας με ξεπερνάει. Δυστυχώς.

Ακριβώς έτσι. Πολλοί δεν γνωρίζουν τη ζωή στο εξωτερικό ή έχουν πάει για λίγους μήνες, οπότε είναι ενθουσιασμένοι από το καινούργιο. Εργασιακή ασφάλεια υπάρχει στη Γερμανία, αλλά μόνο σε λίγα κρατίδια υπάρχουν πραγματικές ευκαιρίες. Η Ελλάδα σε αυτή τη φάση είναι πιο οργαμωμένη και στο δημόσιο και στον ιδιωτικό τομέα. online υπηρεσίες που στην Ελλάδα είναι δεδομένες εδώ και χρόνια, δεν υπάρχουν στη Γερμανία. Για να διακόψεις συμβόλαιο σταθερού τηλεφώνου/ίντερνετ, μέχρι πέρυσι ο συνδρομητής έπρεπε να στείλει γράμμα με το αίτημα διακοπής έως και 3 μήνες πριν από τη λήξη συμβολαίου. Πλέον είναι έως και 1 μήνα πριν. Οι συγκοινωνίες στις πόλεις είναι καλύτερες απ' ότι στην Ελλάδα, αλλά οι επαρχία έχει και εκεί προβλήματα. Υπάρχουν χωριά που τα σαββατοκύριακα δεν έχουν λεωφορεία. Όπως επίσης, είναι γνωστό το πρόβλημα με την έλλειψη οπτικών ινών και βασικών σύγχρονων υποδομών για ίντερνετ. Υπάρχουν επίσης ελλείψεις σε φάρμακα και διαθέσιμα ραντεβού σε εξειδεικευμένους γιατρούς και για χειρουργεία. Η ζωή στις μεγάλες πόλεις έχει γίνει τόσο ακριβή, που οι κάτοικοι, ειδικά νέοι και συνταξιούχοι φεύγουν. Οι χαμηλού και μεσαίου εισοδήματος εργαζόμενοι μένουν συνήθως σε άλλες πόλεις. Δυστυχώς σιδηροδρομικά δυστυχήματα υπάρχουν και στη Γερμανία. Στη Βαυαρία είχε πέρυσι δύο. Εγκληματικότητα υπάρχει και εκεί, ανάλογα την περιοχή και την πόλη. Το Μόναχο είναι μία πολύ ασφαλής πόλη, αλλά η Νυρεμβέργη, το Βερολίνο, η Κολωνία έχουν ποσοστά εγκληματικότητας υψηλά. Γυναικοτονία, ρατσιστική βία, κτλ υπάρχουν επίσης. Όσο για την προσβασιμότητα, ούτε στη Γερμανία είναι ειδυλιακά. Έχω δει τραμ να μην δουλεύει μπάρα για τα καροτσάκια και υπάρχει κανάλια στο TH-cam με Γερμανό που είναι τυφλός και δείχνει όλα τα προβλήματα από τις λάθος σημάνσεις στους δρόμους έως και την αντιμετώπιση του κόσμου. Και το τελευταίο είναι ο συντηρητισμός στην επαρχία, βλέπε Βαυαρία. Από την άλλη πλευρά οι Γερμανοί είναι πιο περήφανοι για τη χώρα τους απ' ότι οι Έλληνες στην Ελλάδα. Για κάποιο λόγο οι Έλληνες επιλέγουμε συνεχώς τη φυγή και όχι να κάτσουμε να αλλάξουμε τα πράγματα.

As a Scottish guy living in Greece, I'd say its a very safe country. I see Greeks as being very friendly people generally speaking, friendlier than many other countries. Things do happen, but that happens everywhere.

Ενδιαφέρον να ακούσω διαφορετικές απόψεις. Ως τουρίστας, ένιωθα πάντα ασφαλής στην Ελλάδα. Αλλά παρά την τεράστια υπερηφάνεια των Ελλήνων, άκουγα πολύ συχνά από νεότερους ανθρώπους πόσο πολύ ήθελαν να φύγουν, όχι ίσως μόνιμα, αλλά σίγουρα για δουλειά. Αντίθετα, είμαι από τους που ονειρεύονται να ζήσουν στην Ελλάδα (συγκεκριμένα στην Κρήτη), αλλά συνειδητοποιώ πόσο δύσκολο θα ήταν, ειδικά όταν συγκρίνω την Τσεχία με την Ελλάδα στο World Data.

Η Ελλάδα δεν είναι μόνο η Αθήνα. Υπάρχουν ακόμα πόλεις στην Ελλάδα , μικρές σαν την δική μου, που δεν υπάρχει εγκληματικότητα καθόλου.

As an American who often visits Greece, I’m fortunate to say that I’m never actively thinking of my safety while traveling throughout Greece because of how safe I feel. My in-laws live in Athens and a noteworthy difference between Greece and America is the security features installed in every home (alarms, security doors, security windows, etc). As an American I want to keep the windows open at night for light and air but I’m always asked to secure the house at night to avoid break-ins. I’d like to think that the level of home security in Greek homes deters people from attempting crime. Maybe I’m still to enchanted by Greece’s beauty to notice any danger around me. There's a lot of break-ins in Greece too. Maybe not as many as in America, but still plenty.
I spent 6 weeks in Ελλάδα last summer as a single female traveler. I stayed mainly in Λάρισα but traveled to many smaller cities and villages and spent a couple of days in Λευκάδα and Cyprus and a week in Θεσσαλονίκη. I felt safe absolutely every place I went except Cyprus which reminded me, sadly, of the U.S. I took very long walks during the day and shorter walks very late at night. I never felt threatened although I was always on my guard. I would never, NEVER walk alone at night where I live, and I live in a small (population ~114,000) rural community in the U.S. Even during my daytime walks at home I carry a stun gun and a retractable baton, partly for coyotes and bears and partly for human.
My point is, although Greece isn't perfect (tell me a single country that is!), it is a safer country than most overall in terms of crime.
I can't speak to the public transportation situation because I have nothing to compare it to. I took a city bus, a long range bus, and a train. All seemed safe, clean, and efficient. I wish this had been the same outcome for those in Τέμπη.
Note: In the week following this tragedy, there were at least 3 major train derailments in the U.S. Thankfully none resulted in the death toll that Greek families suffered recently. There were 1,164 train derailments in 2022 in the U.S.
I had known a woman in internet living in Vancouver Seattle. She was flyfishing as a hoby and told me she was fishing alone and always carrying a gun for safety. I really was impressed because i am not familiar to guns since i served in Greek army. As it seems guns is a common thing for US citizens.
@@antimimoniakos Yes, I have a gun as well. It stays in safely in my home. I do not carry it with me in public because I don't have a license to do that. Unfortunately, needing a license is no longer needed in Florida since the lunatic, power-hungry governor passed a law stating Floridians can carry guns around without a license now. This means people don't have to take a gun safety class to carry a gun around town. Absolutely horrifying! I don't like having a gun. It sickens me frankly, but I refuse to allow someone to break into my home with his/her own gun and not put up a fight.

i have to say that we romanians and maybe many other nations feel the same about our own countries… but in the end from someone’s perspective it is not that bad as we make it look!
It’s always what you compare it with. I feel safer in Greece than I feel in Germany. But there are so many different aspects.
It is generally a safe country, with the exception of some areas of the two largest cities, namely Athens and Thessaloniki. Crime to some extent exists due to some more marginalized populations such as gypsies who have been deeply involved in drugs for decades and partially due to the suffocating concentration of huge populations of irregular migrants from God-poor and devastated areas of Asia or Africa in some parts, especially around the center of Athens. Some criminal groups from the Balkans have undoubtedly played a role in criminality. In order not to be misunderstood, it is understood that the majority of many of those populations are not related to criminal acts. Finally, the deterioration or stagnation of living standards in general has also played a role, especially after the 2010s, due to the austerity policies implemented
I am from Sweden and I’ve been in greece several times. I can’t remember feeling unsafe except with the traffic. It got really bad last year when our hotel was in a region where people drove like crazy (I don’t know whether they were tourists or natives). They basically didn’t care about traffic lights and I can remember one time trying to cross the road and someone was literally driving while I was walking 😧. Other than that I can’t think of a situation where I’ve been in danger in greece, and I’m going back again in August this year 😀 hopefully with some knowledge (finally) of the greek language.

I have visited Greece on several occasions and never felt fear of muggings while walking the streets of Athens or the Islands.
However, the only thing that did make me feel unsafe was the use of road crossing and walking on footpaths. I found many private car owners had no respect or patience for the road rules!
With transport I mainly used buses and trams and felt safe and confident traveling on them.
Furthermore what needs to be understood with developed western nations is, yes they are better organized and more affluent economies. However this has been achieved through higher income and indirect taxes, compared to Greece. Their wages might be higher in comparison with Greece but for many it is not enough to meet their daily expenses.
There is no country that is perfect!
Greece overall is a safe and a reasonable place to live and yes, there are old systematic problems faced by the people on a daily basis but this can be improved and overcome by a change of attitude on many levels by Greek society.

Such a subjective question! Safe compared to, or relative to where? When someone cites "Wolt" riders ..." doing weird things" as a safety concern, she should go see a few other countries in which bomb blasts (three this week Im aware of), rape, or robbery are a daily and real fact of life.

Ζούσα και ζω στην Ελλάδα. Από τις ΗΠΑ. (Έφυγα να επισκεφτώ την οικογένειά μου για λίγο. αλλά θα επιστρέψω) Και νιώθω ασφαλής στην Ελλάδα. Αυτό ήταν μέχρι που έζησα εκεί για λίγο. Και αυτό γιατί η αστυνομία. Είμαι μισός μαύρος, οπότε δεν κοιτάζω τους περισσότερους ανθρώπους. και γι' αυτό είμαι σαν στόχος για αυτούς. Πάντα με σταματούν, με κάνουν ερωτήσεις, με ψάχνουν. και με στεναχωρεί γιατί με κάνει να νιώθω ότι δεν μπορώ να ζήσω ειρηνικά στο δικό μου σπίτι (χώρα). η αστυνομία με κάνει ήδη ανήσυχο για το πώς με αντιμετωπίζουν στις ΗΠΑ. Και δεν πίστευα ότι η Ελλάδα ήταν έτσι μέχρι να ζήσω εκεί για μεγαλύτερο χρονικό διάστημα. Αλλά, και πάλι το λατρεύω..

Just wanted to point out that there is a huge difference between feeling safe and being safe. Listening to the media can make u feel unsafe even during the day or at a place where it is extremelly unlikely for something to happen to you while being born and raised here might falsely make u feel comfortable and safe even when walking at night in Oμονοια and Εξαρχια.
That being said it is generally safe to come here apart from the areas i mentioned and Filopapou hill at night. Most crimes are that of pickpocketing that occur at touristy places. In the islands though it is highly recommended to never walk alone at night (especially if ur a woman) coz there are a lot of drunk tourists during the summer. The bigger the group the better.
Πολλά απ' τα άτομα που συμμετείχαν στο βίντεο πήραν την έννοια της ασφάλειας με την κυριολεκτική, την σωματική έννοια. Η ανασφάλεια που νιώθω εγώ ως 25χρονη Ελληνίδα είναι σε άλλους τομείς. Απ' τα 18 μου είχα ανασφάλεια, άραγε μετά τις σπουδές μου θα απορροφηθώ στην αγορά εργασίας επαρκώς; Θα έχω έναν αξιοπρεπή μισθό; Θα μπορώ ως κοπέλα να γυρίσω μόνη μου σπίτι μου μετά από ένα ποτό χωρίς να φοβάμαι; Τελικά στα 25 μου αποφασίζω να φύγω για κάποια άλλη χώρα της ΕΕ. Με στεναχωρεί βαθύτατα η απόφασή μου, αλλά οι αλλεπάλληλες απογοητεύσεις ανά τα χρόνια και τις κυβερνήσεις με έφεραν σε αυτή τη θέση. Η ελπίδα ήταν εκεί, το κίνητρο να αγωνιστώ και να παλέψω για ένα καλύτερο μέλλον της πατρίδας μου ήταν πηγαίο και ισχυρό. Πλέον έχει χαθεί.
ΥΓ: Πολύ σημαντική η αναφορά στην προσβασιμότητα σε ΑΜΕΑ στην Ελλάδα. Είναι οριακά τριτοκοσμική. Όχι μόνο από υποδομές, αλλά και από την ίδια την νοοτροπία των Ελλήνων (πχ αφήνω το μηχανάκι πάνω στο μέρος του πεζοδρομίου που είναι για τυφλούς, παρκάρω σε ράμπα αναπήρων...).

Λεμονίτα στην αθηναϊκή διάλεκτο είναι η λεμονάδα.
Για να το πούμε σωστότερα, "λεμονίτα" έγινε κάποια στιγμή μέσα στην δεκαετία του '90, όπως και το.. χμμ. "καλαμάκι". Παλαιότερα χρησιμοποιούσαν και η Αθηναίοι τις σωστές λέξεις.

Αλλά το θέμα είναι ότι εγώ δεν θυμάμαι να άκουσα ποτέ τη λέξη "καλαμάκι". Αυτές οι λέξεις κοντά ή κατά τη δεκαετία του '90 εμφανίστηκαν.

why translate "δεκάδες" as dozens when tens is the correct translation? While in Greek one would not use dozens in describing a number of people, in english you can, but "tens of people" is also correct. I know I'm nitpicking.
I was thinking the other day about it. We don't say δωδεκάδες dozens in Greek but δεκάδες tens. So it is better to translate dozens as tens.
we do say "ντουζίνα" though sometimes, which directly translates to dozens

@@EasyGreekVideos My first point is that broken English, if it mimics the Greek is better than fluent English that does not for learning the language (especially since the sentence structure is so different). My second point is that it is more important to me that I learn the language than that I understand the politics or culture of Greece; the more abstract it becomes, the harder it is. My third point is there is no "easy Greek," έτσι δεν είναι; Sorry for being difficult!
