    Thanks for the video, I just got in my spoiler and decided to go straight into the amazing goop route. I let it set for 72 hours and it’s on there for sure. Definitely not coming off. To get the stock spoiler off I found it the easiest to use a heat gun, wedge, fishing braid (the braid rarely snapped) and some goo gone. After taking the stock off I was left with a mess like you had. I used a heat gun and a hard plastic cast iron scrapper and it came off very easy. Within 2 hours I took the old one off and Installed the new one. These videos helped a lot and hopefully for the future my tips can help others.

    I put mine on last week, same thing as you corner started lifiting. No one in my town sold a export like glue so I just bought some name brand 3m tape and reapplied it, hope that holds it

    Thanks for the video!
    Just Installed the same spoiler on my gli..looks Awesome!
    I put some "goop" inside the spoiler to prevent the 2 pieces from ever coming apart before the install

    I’ve been debating putting on my aftermarket trunk spoiler because I’m afraid of the double sided tape stuff and how it held. This video proves my point. My spoiler doesn’t have a flat surface underneath for glue, it would just go around the rim/edges of the spoiler which is maybe 1/4 of an inch wide if that. I might be passing on this exterior mod… 😔

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think the double sided tape is best suited for emblems unfortunately. Thanks for your comment.

      @@UrAvgRider Agreed, plus the heat down here in AZ would probably just kill the tape and the spoiler will just sag.

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely doesn’t like cold either.
      I understand you don’t have room for the Goop (glue), but it is still holding strong on my car. Even with our hot summer this year.

      Just went through hell at the body shop last night and the spoilerking trunk lip spoiler. Getting the OEM spoiler off was easy, but why in the hell does VW use this black epoxy adhesive is beyond me. They couldn't get it all out. I have to go back tomorrow morning. What's worst is the spoiler is longer than the width of my trunk. It curves with heat but my body shop is not thrilled with this project. I kinda regret it.

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t get all the black adhesive off either. I just took off what would be visible once the new spoiler was on. The ECS spoiler was a few millimeters shorter than the width of the trunk and the curves fit perfectly. I’m afraid that if they needed to bend the spoiler with heat that it might want to return to the original shape when cooled. Meaning it fights the new adhesive. I hope that’s not the case. Best of luck.

    I'm going to need to do this too. I'm fighting with ECS for them to send me new tape and it clearly needs 45 + 45 + 1 and 1/2 + 1 and 1/2 in of tape and they just sent me 45 in. They sent me a picture of the spoiler on their website which is a clearly a different design and it uses one thicker piece of tape in the middle. Either way I don't think it holds very well.

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely doesn’t hold well enough. I hope you get it sorted out. 👍👍 Thanks for your comment.

      Thanks so much for your comment. I have plans to buy some goodies for the car, but not sure when. I keep going back and forth about 1” lowering springs as of late. Thoughts?

    • @mikes1439
      @mikes1439 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UrAvgRider I have APR lowering springs on my car and I love them. It took me from a 4 finger Gap to a two-finger gap in the wheel well.
      I know there are some springs that do a very mild drop like you're talking about. I believe h&r is one of them. I definitely recommend lowering the car in some way shape or form. Way too much wheel Gap from the factory.

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am thinking about the H&R lowering springs because I don’t want to lose the DCC function of the car. At least not in year one. Thanks for your input.

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn’t do the springs yet. I’m still a little nervous about losing ground clearance for our winters. But I still want to do it. Thanks for your comment.

    Good update video. Curious if you happened to remove all or most of the tape from the trunk and spoiler prior to applying the goop?

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for you comment. It was so hard to remove the black adhesive, I only removed everything that would be visible. I was thinking of doing an update just letting everyone know that it’s been holding strong since I did the Goop. Even when others are closing my trunk by pushing down on the lip spoiler. 👍

  • @unkn0nus3r
    @unkn0nus3r ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would I really need to wait a couple days in the garage . It’s a daily driver for me so maybe an overnight after the initial install with Gooop ?

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good question. Unfortunately my answer will vary. Depending on what the overnight temperature is, humidity, and precipitation. If you’re in a warm/dry environment, then very likely. It does stick fast enough, but it takes a while to completely cure. Best on a weekend or when you can leave it for as long as possible. Taping it down for that first day may help as well. But if you tape, don’t leave it on too long or you’ll be fighting to get the sticky off. Best of luck.

    Hey I’m looking into buying this spoiler. Heard mixed things about the tape, and I’m trying to avoid the goop stuff. Heard that putting another roll of 3M along with the tape on there does the job. I’ve also heard that the clear coat fades fast too. Is that true?

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for your comment. I heard others get a stronger bonding 3M and it works well. That’s a pretty good option. Mine is the gloss black (piano black finish). And like a lot of gloss black items, it scratches if you look at it. But the bright gloss finish are still hanging on. That’s with a mix of indoor and outdoor parking. I do put Chemical Brothers liquid ceramic on it though. Which helps I’m sure.

    • @jonheuer4945
      @jonheuer4945 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UrAvgRider thanks for the reply! That sounds good. I’ll order it, and I’ll take off the tape that’s on there and replace it with better 3M tape. Hopefully that’ll do the trick. Also will apply turtle wax ceramic spray.

      @@jonheuer4945 It’s such a great look for the car. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

      @jonheuer4945 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UrAvgRiderstarting to get skeptical on the 3M I bought. Heard people have problems even with replacing with 3M. Is this automotive goop you used permanent? Would it take paint off if I were to take it off?

    • @UrAvgRider
      @UrAvgRider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonheuer4945 In the first video I show removing the factory lip spoiler and there’s some black “gunk” left behind. The Goop will be equivalent to that. It creates a permanent bond. Yet it is possible to take off. Will it take paint of while being removed? I think there are a number of variables that will determine that. But it will be hard to take off. My two cents. My spoiler is on the car permanently. And if it were ever broken for whatever reason, I would be replacing. So the new one would just cover up the mess. Thanks again for your comments.
