    Wow. Imagine how cool and scary it would be to capture 2 trains colliding head on with each other IN PERSON and not being an engineer. Talk about being unlucky having the incident happen right after, hope the crews were ok though.

    Wow! That is amazing. I bet you were wondering where the traffic went. Honestly, I’m surprised anything was moving after the head-on!

      We are very surprised as well. It did get eerily quiet on the radio for a while, which was our only clue that something was wrong. We didn’t figure out what had happened until well after sunset.

    I feel sorry for the locomotives being damaged beyond repair, but I'm glad that the crew members survived the collision. It would've been disastrous if they didn't.

    What amazes me is how from scene to scene the trains change. Two locomotives three in the next then back to two. Some scenes the train is empty then it's fully loaded

    I probably have pictures of the wdecked units taken near Fairbanks, shere my family's got a hunting shack. I recall hearing about the accident because that's when we start getting ready for hunting season.
    The shots bring back some memories, though...from a time before both DMIR lines were resignaled, and EMDs ruled the Range. Good times...
    A couple more notes: the ore cars shown in most shots were only used on IR for a couple years. They seem to be found most on limestone trains these dsys.
    The Griswolds in Hibbing are mostly still there, although the mechanisms have been disabled, and the stop signs removed.
    While Iron Range ore trains are run by ex-UP/CNW C40-8s now, most of the non-wrecked EMDs still work on the Range, either on locals, T-Birds, or on Missabe ore trains

    Sadly the last Griswolds in Hibbing were removed and scrapped in April 2022. I went to go check on them after a year and when I got there they were replaced with old 2000’s bell less gate less signals. The railroad accomplished nothing by replacing the Griswolds other than adding 4 inches to the lights.

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it is highly likely that PTC would have prevented the collision. This incident occurred in dark territory on the Iron Range Sub. The crew received an “after arrival” track authority, but did not wait for the train listed in the authority. We are thankful that all crew members survived the collision. All six locomotives involved were scrapped. Thank you for watching the video.

    Apparently, the crew of the southbound, on a different frequency for the scale house, missed RTC giving the northbound permission to use the single track. The SB continued from Highland siding until colliding head on with the NB train.
    On September 30, 2010, at 4:05 p.m., a southbound Canadian National Railway freight train collided head on with a northbound Canadian National Railway freight train near Two Harbors, Minnesota. As a result of the accident, three locomotives and 14 railcars derailed sending five crewmembers to the hospital with injuries. At the time of the accident, the trains were operating in non-signaled territory and the southbound train did not have authority to operate on the single main track.

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’re just thankful that everyone survived. Regardless, the southbound crew had an “after arrival” on the IC 6265 North at South Highland in their track authority. It was disregarded, and the crew of IC 6258 South departed Highland before the northbound had passed. Very dangerous situation. Thank you for sharing what you found.
