This guys is just crap, sorry. She deserved so much higher level of interviewer… the questions, gosh… The way he looks at his notes while she’s talking. 😒 She might have just thought : “oh well, let’s do this and go back home.” Anyway, very happy to see her and mesure her amazing and powerful prestance.
Parable of the Sower and the Talents is what got me through the pandemic. It gave me hope and I am forever grateful to Octavia Butler truly brilliant and prophetic mind
He is just a bad interviewer honestly, take a look at the itw with Donna Tart, it is beyond annoying...but great yes still have these gems from so many writer
This comment makes me so happy, thank you for sharing. I discovered Octavia Butler two years ago when I was 31! I'm so happy you can enjoy Butler's works as well as Morrison's
I am currently reading "Kindred" by Octavia Butler for my A.A. Studies class. So far, I am thoroughly impressed by how her mind works in writing novels. I am looking forward to reading the rest of her books as well. 💯
I was hospitalized for 37 days and, when I had enough energy, I went to thw patiwnt library. Ki dred was the only book (1) with a black person on the cover and(2) in large print. I grabbed it and thus commenced a love affair!
Gratitude for this soul. We get to see so much with these minds of our past but man what a jewel she is and I hope to meet her in one of my many realities. Rest here Goddess.
watching her interviews makes me think of how part of being a successful writer, particularly a Black woman writer at that time (and now) has to do with meeting incompetence and thinly veiled hostility with cleverness and grace. i wish there were more recorded interviews of her speaking with actually good interviewers who were excited about her work and connected with it but her navigation of what was is so skillful!
Octavia Butler is one of the most beautiful souls to ever create art. I’m so glad I found my way to her books. The way she writes makes falling into a story so easy and cathartic. I’m reading through “Parable of the Sower” now, my first time. I know she passed a few years ago 😔 so I came here to hear her voice. I miss Octavia Butler’s presence in this world. I think she’s one of the best American writers of our generation.
Such a treasure to hear her words and perspective!! But Charlie Rose is the WORST! Interrupting her constantly. Flipping through his notes. Looks like he can't wait to get on to the next guest. Her intellect is so vastly superior to his. Geesh.
I really like Octavia Butler,She stimulates me ! I met her once in a book store , back in the nineties, and she regarded me as a mother who figure who is thinking : what a sweet child "... She reminded me of my Aunties , and the church ladies who regarded me as an adorable small child 😂
Infectious book. I can't wait to read the second. Can't help but like her in interviews too. Any suggestions of what book of her I should read after the sower books?
@@seandonaghuejohnston nice! I will have to check those out. Parable of the Sower is fantastic... I just wish it were longer since some threads wrap up so quickly.
Ummm..... how did charlie rose get tripped up on space "race"? It's crazy how focused he was on race simply because she's a black woman. Amazing interview though.
["Parable of the Sower", by Octavia Butler, MAKE the movie! ] we need to make "Parable of the Sower" into a movie! why is it not ALREADY a movie?! this lady saw the future some 30+ years ago... well, that future is now, or almost now, like tomorrow, maybe a couple of years from now, but it's coming, as inevitable as an atmospheric river, blizzards in LA, massive widespread poverty, food riots, the scarcity of potable water, raging fires, guns, the whole kit'n'caboodle... it's happening right now, just getting rolling! you can hear the vast multitudes around the world, migrating, trying to live, be alive, have a life, families, friends, enemies, they are all moving, look at the borders... their porosity is only going to increase... can't stop it, this tsunami cannot be stopped... this lady saw the future, with the clarity of a vision, if we don't make this book into a movie right now, then no book should have ever been made into one

He kept talking over her, too; interrupting her & not letting her finish.
I agree. Clearly, he has never read anything of hers.
My thoughts exactly.
She truly did deserve much better ✨
Yeah, he is. But it's okay. We got to see a glimpse of Octavia and what a beautiful mind she had. And let's read her books. Yeah.
"...sending my mind off some place it hasn't been before..." - the exact reason I picked up Kindred. What an author.
She is my favorite writer of all time and I will always be inspired by her works. Her art fuels my art❤

the Octavia's Parables podcast by toshi reagon and adrienne maree brown brought me out of a very dark place post Pandemic...
Charlie really doesn’t know how to not interrupt her 🙄🙄🙄gross.
Still grateful to have this record of her words.

He can’t stand letting a woman hold the power for 30 minutes. Now his sexual harassment allegations make total sense…
He's a terrible interviewer and one who I would describe as "not the sharpest knife in the drawer."
I'm 60 years old and just discovered Octavia Butler's wonderful books. She is now one of my favorite writers; Toni Morrison is the other.❤

@mayasup3rn0va I'm just finding her as well and I'm no spring chicken🤭
Read her books, guys!
I blame this country I haven’t heard much interviews of this award winning author as far as all the book 📕 lovers we are!
Yes! I have several of her books & just added another. Parable of Sower and Parable of the Talents… her writing was prophetic.

Just finished reading "Dawn" (my first Butler book) - what a rare and amazing talent. I can't wait to start another one of her books.
Dawn was my first book too🙌🏾✨
Wow I could listen to her thoughts for hours and hours. So fascinating.

I need to read her books! And the interviewer just kept
Over talking her 🙄

Man I wish I could sit down and talk to her.
I feel the same way.
I think we can all learn from OEB. Humble, honest, sincere, great sense of humor, no time for stereotypes

Yeah he does/did that to all of his interviewees.
Not a fan of CR. But all good. Learned a lot from this interview.
I could become a writer or I could die really young, it wasn’t anything else I wanted
You will become that writer!!!
Had the pleasure of meeting her any moons ago...very low key lady.

Thanks for the upload

Can't help but like her in interviews too. Any suggestions of what book of her I should read after the sower books?
I'm on the third book of the Xenogenesis (or Lilith's Brood) trilogy, and all three books are fantastic. Still have to read the Parable novels.

Also, let me just say that he was NOT prepared for what kind of woman Octavia Butler was.
