i can’t exactly say for what the london underground uses the door interlock cutout switch, but on the metro that i work at, it is used for when the door mechanism malfunctions in order to get the train moving without the doors closed. passengers will have to be de-boarded before this switch is engaged.
I'm from Queensland Australia, we have a door interlock on our suburban trains, It's mainly used for door faults. On the driver's console we have a 'Doors open" tile light which tells the driver if the doors are released or not. If the light won't extinguish it means either a door won't close or the system that detects the doors being closed is faulty. If the guard can't fix the door or the system is faulty we will terminate the train, key lock all the passenger doors and use the door traction interlock to let the train get back to the depot. Long story short they use it so the train can move if the system that detects the doors is faulty. and if course you have to permission from control etc.
Isn't it very difficult to become a train driver in the underground, I always fancied the idea myself however my aptitude at school wasn't good enough to meet what were strict entry requirements.
Yeah I’m so glad that you guys put the tube in because London underground though I am from the United States Chicago specifically which also has a very historic in famous subway system through London underground is by far my favorite to the point where I actually have mapping and trip planning applications on both my phone and my iPad I know the system very well probably better than any non-London or should

hey moleman the speed limit is 5mph through a closed underground station or when a train is out of service this does not apply to station above ground the reason why its only 5 mph is because any faster will cause a vacuume
If its like the traction interlock isolation switches on mainline trains its there for if you have a faulty door and are between stations. What you'd do, if you simply couldnt get the door closed and locked, would be to move all passengers out of the vehicle in question and isolate that vehicle. Then isolate traction interlock with the approval of control and drive to the next station, where you could detrain. Also, if a door failed and couldn't be isolated at a station you'd have to take the train empty and out of service to depot, but again to get it moved you'd have to isolate the traction interlock to get a brake release.
