  • Newt the owner-trained German Wirehaired Pointer takes a Public Access Test to showcase his obedience and temperamental stability in a variety of public access scenarios. Newt passed the PAT, and because of his consistency in obedience and public behavior, in addition to solid task work (many tasks not shown in video) he is now considered to be a fully trained service dog.

    One thing I will correct you on is "Dogs cannot startle at carts, strollers, and children.", dogs are dogs and can startle, but they should recover in a timely manner.

      I don't mean to sound pedantic but the phrase used is "should not" not "cannot". There is a difference between the two, namely that "cannot" implies that the dog under no circumstances is able to startle and pass the test. "Should not" means exactly that, the dog should not be startled by the presence of carts, strollers, or children, but leaves room for the evaluator to interpret whether the startle was warranted under the circumstances and if the recovery was sufficiently timely.

    You both did amazing!!! You must be so proud!
    I hope one day my doggo and I will be able to do the same things as you two! We’ve been working a lot on PA training, but mainly just in Walmart and our local petstore, so I haven’t gotten to work with him much with pulling into parking lots and in other places, but you guys are such a great example for what I strive to get at! 😄

    Yay! Such a great job. I’ve never seen such a fuzzy pointer. His face reminds me a Pudelpointer, just adorable. Good boy!

      The Pudelpointer is one of the breeds used in the initial creation of the German Wirehaired Pointer breed.

    The video is great, but not enough time to read the wording in between the filming part.

      Feel free to pause the video to read each section in entirety. I opted not to increase the time for each written segment as it's hard to get people to watch the entirety of a 12 minute video, much less a nearly 30 minute video.

    I’m visually impaired and looking for one these where there’s someone disscribing what type of test the dog is doing and how they should respond. Do you know of any.

    Well trained dog for this handler. Please note this training and testing will not work for every dog depending on their task and job. I hope this is not the standard for every dog this company is testing as different purposes need different standards. 🤷‍♀️

    My service dog is only five pounds. If she went on an escalator, her nails could get caught. I would pick her up and carry her for her safety.

    • @RelTheFabulous
      @RelTheFabulous  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a reason this is an optional element of the test. Escalators can be trained in a way that a dog of any size can perform them safely, but not all service dogs receive this training, and not all handlers live a lifestyle that would require their service dog to need to learn how to take escalators. For these reasons, it is an optional test item to demonstrate the dog's trained ability to handle one safely if the handler doesn't prefer to avoid escalators for their own reasons, or addresses the dog's safety alternately when using an escalator (such as picking them up).

    Please get your dog neutered!!!!! They can get a lot of illnesses and diseases and cancers if they are not neutered. All dogs should be spayed and neutered for their health, especially service dogs. Service dogs keep us healthy so we should keep them healthy too.

    • @RelTheFabulous
      @RelTheFabulous  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You do realize that if all dogs were spayed and neutered, in about 15 years, there would be no more dogs, right? Remaining intact is not inherently unhealthy.

    • @mobstercrow7515
      @mobstercrow7515 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      More than 1/4 of unaltered female dogs will get mammary tumors and 50% of them are cancerous. 1 in 3 intact male dogs will develop testicular tumors and 27% of unneutered dogs will develop testicular cancer. It is our job to spay and neuter our pets so they don't get cancer and suffer. All dogs except AKC breeding dogs that have had a health screening should be altered, and after the dogs are done breeding then they should be altered. There is MILLIONS of homeless dogs in shelters and on the streets, if people altered their pets then this wouldn't have happened. Remaining intact is VERY unhealthy and risky and if you want to risk your dog developing cancer then you don't deserve to have a dog.@@RelTheFabulous

      Neutering can cause those things as well, and it can also cause aggression so you really shouldn’t go suggesting that to people- if a person wants their dog neutered they should get advice from a vet not an internet stranger
