Apologies all - my usual workflow for getting the stats for each car failed slightly and you’ll see the mk5 r32 stats for the mini! Slight mistake, at least I said the right thing in the background 😅
5 door any day. Just fits the purpose of the hot hatch, a balance between practicality and fun. Exceptions being dedicated 3 doors like the Scirocco and Mégane RS
Had a Cupra R, loved it until it got older. Constantly replacing ignition coils and went through 2 steering racks. Also had to get it resealed as water got into interior soaking carpet.
I would’ve liked to have seen the Volvo c30 t5 on here. Seriously seriously underrated hatchback and packs a fair punch. Extremely cheap for what you get too
Ok, i bought a new Leon Cupra R back in 2004, in the 1st year i had the interior leathered, doors and seats same as cloth which it came with, with the double red stiching and R logos on front seats. I still have it today. Last year i got a stage 1 remap and omfg 50bhp increase and 100nm of torque ! The difference is unbelievable it is a wow improvement. I love my car, 72,000 miles on it. Brilliant car, a nice £18,000 purchase lol
That’s commitment , I’m driving the one shown in the ad on this video, purchased a few weeks ago - stage 1, dump valve, exhaust etc and it is such a fun drive, love it
Great video! I'm surprised you didn't include the mk2 Seat Leon Cupra as well. They come with 2.0T I4 239hp engine out of the box and you can get a descent one under £5k. By the way, there is a mistake with the stats on the Mini JCW @4.40
Just so you know regarding the Fiesta St at the end of its production run they offered it as a 5 door but didn't really advertise it, so not many made. Will be very rare in years to come 👍
No MK 2 Focus ST? That's criminal. I genuinely thought they would be No1. That said some absolute 'weapons' in the list. The old school Cupra R wins it for me. Still looks class 👌
Hi, I think you have overlooked the mk3 skoda octavia vrs 2.0 tsi dsg. It's lighter than the VWGolf gti/ r , It's a family sleeper mine was a 220bhp standard with a stage 1 map now at 345bhp. Now waiting for a new IS38 Hybrid turbo upto 500bhp. I love my VRS massive boot and surprises alot of ppl. Keep making quality content 👌 Cheers PjVrs420
Once again, no Mk2 Focus ST. Why the hate JB?! The S3 is boring to drive so not sure how it’s number 1. I don’t mean to disrespect it because it is a great car. But there’s no fun to it
Always been a 5 door person myself, especially now since I’ve got a kid. Just prefer the practicality of getting someone in the back instead of climbing into it
Audi S3 unmentioned the timing chain faults on the 2.0 TFSI rattle unless you pay £700-£900 if it went its catastrophically bad news. Should have reviewed the MK2 Focus ST having owned both the ST seems better by far.
@@cjhklio S3's are lovely better build quality than the Ford's? But the ST's I've had the mk3 and then the mk2 the mk2 seems savage compared to the other 2. Only draw back fuel economy is dire. I concur
I have a mk5 golf gti and I’m surprised it didn’t feature tbh. I know as standard they’re only 200bhp but a few of the cars mentioned were sub 200bhp and imo the gti is a better car than the r32 🤷♂️ not as special or as rare but definitely more fun, less heavy and with a stage 1 map they’re quicker. Mine is currently running 275bhp and runs rungs around my mates r32! His has the edge from take off but once were rolling he doesn’t stand a chance. Especially through corners
First video I've ever seen, but I can only agree with the mazda 3... the rest are far too pricey. What about civic fn2/celica 2zz/corolla t-sport/clio's/astra vxr... sorry I'm not having a dig but 🤣🤣🤣 I am currently looking for something and u won't be getting anything worth buying from that list for 5k. Cheers for the vid, still helpfull 👊
N18 in the cooper S available from 2010 onwards but N18 not in the JCW until 2012 . Onwards I've had a 2011 Cooper S & the Mrs has a 14 plate DS3 Dsport Thp which is the same Engine. Going to be very hard getting a 5 grand 2012 JCW unless it's done 150,000 + miles. These engines as long as timing chain done well below recommend 100,000 and particularly oil which intervals are 20,000 I wouldn't do more than 5000 which both my old 2011 Cooper S and the wife's DS3 Thp have been no problem hopefully due to this.
5 door if they look good enough, but for about 80% of hot hatches the 3 door is just so much better it has to be that. On my 250-mile commute yesterday (7.5 hours...bank holiday traffic is great) I can't remember seeing an EP3 but I definitely saw every other car on this list! The Cupra R of that gen was what we all wanted when I was at school and I still have a soft spot for those. I don't have any soft spot for the S3, although that's partly because they used to always race my Lexus and Porsche, now they all want to race my Pug...although everyone seems to want to race that, I didn't realise how much of a chav-magnet a decat exhaust is. Driving one of those through a chavvy town is like walking into a bar in Ibiza and yelling "lads lads lads" apparently 🤣 Still, I genuinely don't think I've seen any Audi A3/S3 or any spec Fiesta in 5 years that hasn't either been doing
It s crazy how cheap cars are in the UK. It would be impossible to find a LHD Megane RS in the rest of Europe for less than 10k euro. Those who are less, are almost 200k miles. Same for Giulietta QV. Impossible to find an abarth or fiesta st mk3 for less than 7k. If I would live in the UK, Megane RS was the way to go, such a wonderful and incredible machine
Value for money ST150, although not quite 'hot' without being modified, it's a better driver than most of these, so damn fun! Just lacking a bit of power
If only the Giuletta had a manual...the Mito QV has to be more fun just because of the gearbox, no matter how good it is, it's an odd fit for a FWD hot hatch.
@@jmhuzzdoesgaming I do love a good auto. I had only autos over the last 10 years -torque converter, eCVT (underrated) and a PDK before I went back to manual last August with my 308 GTi. Drove it for 7.5 hours on Friday in bank holiday traffic and I'm still happy, although I will probably buy another auto next (some sort of GT...). While I do prefer autos overall, I feel like a transmission not fitting the character of the car is a bigger sacrifice - a hot hatch to me should be FWD, manual and drive like a deranged chihuahua 🤣 Ideally I'd have one of each - an LC500 for long journeys and the 308 for days where I've had too much caffeine...
A mk5 GTi preforms much better than an R32, much more tunable engine with the turbo, and can pick one up for less than 5k. Nothings good about the R32 but the sound and its AWD system.
I dont recomend ron hodgson garage, bought the exact same red seat leon in this vid and they lied on the mot they put it though, fighting a court claim for money back now..

Cheaper to get a focus st, with T5 lump in it
Less road tax as well
Classed as a coupe.

I have a red mk1 Cupra R BAM. I've had it 11 months just gone and absolutely love the car 👌
Got a stage 2 Mk1 Cupra R as a daily and it's crazy. Although it does need an engine rebuild.
The EP3 Type R has gone up a lot in value.
I looked for a good one as a 2nd/weekend track day car. Anything under 5 grand was a dog.
They’ve been expensive for quite a while to be honest.

How can the mk2 focus st not be on this list, absolute robbery, come on JB😂

Kia Picanto GT-Line S "Bumblebee" (a special edition being the last of the old badge), 120bhp with 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and with a 50+mpg
