Do I have a fountain pen? No. Not my stationary related thing.
Did I watch the whole video anyway? Absolutely. The compassionate and clear way you explain things and how passionate you are on the subject is much appreciated and enjoyable to watch. Love your channel!
Thank you so much for checking it out :-) and I appreciate the compliment
Cannot wait to see your review of this box
Same! This box feels so tactile.
You're such a pen geek and I'm so here for it!
hahahaha. I love them so much
You should also clean your new pen before inking it up for the first time. Many manufacturers do quality checks with ink or use oils or other fluids to protect the nib while it's in storage. Cleaning the pen will ensure your ink's colour will be true right from the start.
Great tip
Just got mine today. Never used one before. Thanks for great video.
Yay! Welcome to the club
I've been hesitant to try a fountain pen but this has convinced me! I've been pulling medication up into a syringe for two years now, so this should be a breeze, lol. Thanks Mark!
If you can do that you can fill nearly any pen that exists 😊 I refill empty cartridges (and converters like this, less mess than drawing up thru the pen) that way all the time
You can do it!
Super helpful! My first fountain pen, I had no idea how to fill it.
So glad it was helpful
Great video, thank you for getting up a beginners guide - this will be so helpful for people getting our March Sub Box! Can't wait for you to get the pen in your hands!
Thank you for getting us pumped for pens
So glad you did this. I'm already a FP addict and this was my 1st A&O box that got me for this reason 😊 was concerned they didn't give enough info for folks new to it. They are wonderful and I hope they continue with them and the inks. Whole new area of fun opportunities here ❤ new sub to you too.
Thanks for checking out the video.
Just got my box today! I waited until i got it. It was difficult to not spoil it.AAAAAHHHHH! I'm so excited!
I don't know how you did it, hahaha
Thank you so much for this video. New adventure for me - fountain pens😁
Welcome to the rabbit hole! 😊❤
YAY!!!
Super excited about the fountain pen!!!
Me too!
I love this pen!
It's working well!
I have never had a fountain pen my box should be here by the 15!
so excited for you!
This was super helpful, thank you!
You're so welcome!
Watching this video has me thinking of Goulet pens and the energy they bring to anything fountain pen. In terms of cleaning, I've heard that a bulb syringe could be helpful because it can get a lot of water to flow through the pen without as much finger power with the converter. I've been lazy about changing colors, so I usually just stick with rinsing and using pen flush when my pens need a refill. But yay another video with fountain pen basics!
Yes the bulb is a great tool. Next level cleaning for sure if people are really into the pen
@@markyourpagesfr. Serious lifesaver. Try getting Baystate Blue or Nitrogen out any other way 😂
Yep Nib flush and cleaning liquids (eta I have Goulet's, its good & what isn't of theirs) are so helpful for extra stubborn inks when you get really lazy like me! 😅 or have too many inked so you forget that one in the back....
Thank you!!! I've never used a fountain pen before, as I've said elsewhere, so I really wanted this video from you! 🥰
Glad it was helpful! Cant wait for more people to try it out.
That’s so helpful! Thank you so much!! 💙
You're so welcome!
That pen is so pretty! I want one! The converter looks like an old Parker converter - I have one like that in a 1980s Parker 25.
Cool, cool. I am looking forward to playing with it.
Can’t wait
Rinse the pen and converter out with clean water before filling with ink. This will clean out any manufacturing oils before putting ink your new pen.
Good tip. Thank you!
OMG! I never bite my nails but chewed mine off waiting for my box! And of course I watch spoilers!
This will be my first fountain pen since high school! Not saying how ancient I am.....
hahaha, it was so exciting getting this one with so many goodies
Thanks so much for this information! I’ve never used a fountain pen before and it seemed super intimidating but honestly this works the exact same as the little syringe I use to give my toddler his medicine 😂 so that’s less intimidating.
Oh yeah! 100% easy to do.
I appreciate the instruction. I've only ever had Platunum Preppies with cartridges so I've never needed to fill one with ink. I have been considering the Twisbe Eco so I wondered how the process compares with this pen. I feel like I may want to have more than one so I can keep the different inks handy. I'm looking forward to this box.
I LOVE the Twsbi Ecos' I have a huge collection of them now. So easy. Basically there is no converter - it's built right into the pen. So the same process to fill and clean, but no extra piece. So worth it!
You can also easily and quickly fill with a syringe.
Less messy too. I do this often to refill empty cartridges.
Yes, totally count. It's another thing to clean, but if it makes people feel more confident, i'm all about it. Plus you get the most ink that way.
I'm so curious to see your review of the pen and inks that come in the kit. :D
I am really excited about it! Now that I got peek in todays video
Great videos! Been inspired by the latest Planner Pals to dig out my old Sheaffer pen, any tips on how to get a pen that was left to dry out ~10 years ago going again?
Get some pen/nib flush cleaning liquid or Google how to make it. I saved my husband's college Sheaffer pen this way. Soak it overnight, flush with distilled water.
oh yay!! so glad you got inspiured. I would find a really nice cleaner - there is one that I've used: a.co/d/3LgcAqK
Do you have suggestions about which paper types are best for the fountain pen (no bleed through or feathering)?
Every brand it a bit different, but tomoe river paper is always a win, Rhodia Notebooks too
Thank you for this! I’ve been waiting with bated breath for my sub box to arrive and I was a bit intimidated but excited about the fountain pen. Now I feel like it won’t be so tricky to get used to thanks to this video 😁
Also, do the sub boxes usually take this long to get shipped? Mine is still in the “label created” phase and it’s been almost a week since I got the shipping email 😬
Mine sat in labeling for a week. Drove me nuts LOL
Glad it was helpful!
I couldn't wait ages watched the spoilers. Knew this would probably be your favourite item. Along with it's (ahem no spoilers here) accessories.
Looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the box. Think I already know my favourite item but will wait and see.
I just finished watching the rest of the video and I CANT WAIT!!!! So excited to get my hands on it.
Hi! Love your videos. Does it matter if the pen is left sitting vertically or horizontally when the pens are not being used to write?
I’d say it depends on how long in between uses. If it’s days or a week, you are probably good. If it’s a few weeks or months, you may just need to give it time to let the ink get back in the feed if it’s been storage tip up. Gravity is our friend and sometimes a foe with inks and pens ;-)
Can you do a video on how to get our a&o color pens to work. Some of mine seem to be dry.
Which pens? The acrylograph pens or Calliograph pens?
I'm new to the fountain pen world (rabbit hole) and missed the March subscription box. I found where the pens and ink are from, and I can't wait to use them. All I have are cartridge ink pens right now, so this will be my new converter pen. The ink colors look amazing. Does the ink work well with the journal pens? So far my Lamy pen works great with my Archer and Olive journal.
I haven’t found any pens they don’t work with. Certain nibs lay down more ink that others and certain inks seep in more - but I just watch what is doing or test on a journal first to make sure it’s okay.
Another thank you for showing us how to do this! I've always been a little intimidated by fountain pens but now it feels a lot more manageable 🫶
It's very doable - i am so excited that others get to try it now too!
I love Fountain Pens, but I have never used a converter! Thank you for this tutorial! Can we use any ink with this pen, or will we only have to use the Archer and Olive inks? I have a few other inks with a glass pen, so I was curious.
You can use any ink except India and calligraphy inks in fountain pens like this. They have shellac in them that can damage and clog your feeds. Any brand is fine that says fountain pen ink. Glass dip pens can use anything liquid ( they are near indestructible)
you could use any fountain pen ink.
so i have this pen and an older one with a slightly bigger nib (scheaffer)... the a&o one is just a joy to use it never fully dries so a little bit of scribbling gets it going so well...
the scheaffer keeps clogging even if i use same brand inks. i'm always afraid they'll all clog like this so i really want to know how to solve this or what could cause it. does anyone have any ideas?
Clogging usually is connected to 2 things. 1 would be the type of ink you are using. Making sure that it is fountain pen ink (not calligraphy ink or pigment ink). 2 would be if it has any shimmer in it that could clog it up. And 3 would be how long the ink is sitting in there between uses.
I'd be interested to know who makes these pens and inks. That does make a difference in what the nib will feel like - some nibs, like Kaweco, aren't my preference.
Agreed. It does make a big difference.
I was wondering this too and haven't found it yet. I just got a Kaweco broad though, and am IN LOVE.
ETA, this O&A is a Wing Sung nib. I pulled out the magnifying glass 😊
This makes me want to get the sub box 😅
This is a good one.
It got me and I don't regret it one bit.
Hi Mark: very happy to see you again. Can you tell me the 3 names of colors? I think the green is ¿OLIVE or CHARTREUSE? Can blues be: China blue and muted Turquoise? That combination is great...! Thanks before hand. Hope receiving yo' answer. Big hug. Javier
They don't say anywhere. I scoured that box, the bottles and the info, nothing. I'm going to name them myself when I swatch them.
@@steffymuze i would thank a lot to you. Name of colors was that i could reach to apreciate with my eyes. It would be very interesting to know the apreciation of others. Thanks for your answer. Javier
No names on any thing. It was odd that the didnt
You can flush out and refill a cartridge with your bottled Inks too if you use a syringe!
I actually cut that part out of the video cause I was like Mark, this is for beginners. But 100% going to try it when i get the pen to see if it works.
@@markyourpages yeah the whole pen maintenance and "enhancements" are a little more involved, figure I'd throw it in because it can save a little money for people starting out by not having to buy new cartridges or a converter.
Thank you for your demonstration and clear instructions!❤
You are so welcome. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video - EAGERLY awaiting my email from A&O for new subs - I've been waiting for MONTHS to subscribe!
Next week it will be available.
