Thank you, *THANK YOU SO MUCH!!* This really save my life. I would've looked like a fool if i showed up to band class still not knowing how to play the high d after christmas break. YOU'RE AMAZING!!!!
A little bit of playing every day (or at least as often as possible) will make your saxophone life so much easier. One step at a time....And don't forget to Have Fun, Play Saxophone, Be Awesome and Repeat ! Hashtag smiley face 🎷
Hi, just discovered this video and your channel! Absolute sax beginner here and when I try to play middle D I'm still just getting low D, almost as if the register key is making no difference - any ideas what I can try? I can see lots of stuff online about low notes sounding an octave higher, but not much about high notes sounding an octave lower!
I can only do a middle D on my alto sax. The other two buttons to make a low or high don’t make a difference. Am I doing something wrong or is my sax broke
Hello, I am having troubles with middle D. When I press down of my third finger on my left and then the register key the valve barely moves on top. Is this normal or is there something wrong? Thanks!
You’re embouchure is too tight. You’re biting too hard and the air pressure/force isn’t coming from your gut. It should feel less like a blow and more like breathing from a strenuous sit-up
Im here because i have a test tommoroe and when i do d and the octave key the note repeats like alot i dont know how to explain it but it makes the note like really sputtery and it only happens when i use the octave key please help
Hi Rodney - when the low notes don't quite work out as you might like, this is a sign that you may not be pushing enough air into your saxophone. Take a big breath, open your throat and try again....and perhaps read this saxophone low notes article I wrote on my blog : howtoplaythesax.com/saxophone-low-notes/ Keep going. You will get there !! 😎👍🎷
@@HowToPlayTheSax thanks a lot. That’s great advise and that works. I took it back to the shop where I bought it and the said the D had a leak and fixed it. When I took it back home the noise was a bit different. But when I used more air and blew it harder it was really smooth with a leveled pitch. Thanks a lot
Probably - yes. Sometimes the top key on some saxophones is gold coloured and a different shape, rather than with a white key finger spot like the other keys. 👍😊🎷
@@HowToPlayTheSax Ive been looking everywhere for this answer on the internet haha even went into 2 stores still no help. I have a Etude EAS 100 Student alto sax. And the first 4 i was taught are BAG with no F Sharp key ;/ maybe you can help since i dropped the sax model
@@loganwolfxx I had a look at some images of the Etude EAS 110, and yes, it's top key appears to be gold and a tear drop shape. You do not need this key at all. Have a look at this video I made for how to play a B - th-cam.com/video/RWIyz1Vphgs/w-d-xo.html - it shows the correct first finger position.
@@HowToPlayTheSax you’re a absolute lifesaver !!!! Thank you. I’ve been searching everywhere for that answer lol. You’re the man. One last question I promise, since you know the model I am using, how would I play F Sharp on my etude EAS 100 student model?
You're welcome. Ummm....My reed is not facing up. Saxophone reeds always face down and touch the saxophonists bottom lip. Not all mouthpieces are uniform in colour. Perhaps you are mistaken by the white tooth guard part on mine ?
I still have a problem with high D. What stops the sax from swiveling about? Are you resting the pinkie of your right hand on some spot below to hold it still, here? It is not visible in the video, so I cannot tell.
As Kris Lewis has suggested, both the left and the right thumbs act as counter balances. The saxophone swivels on the hook of your neck strap, and your two thumbs are applying slight pressure and thus cancel out any balance issues.
Just curious, did you start on clarinet? Why, because you called it the “register key”. I used to do the same thing. I find that 90% of the time former clarinet players will do this.
Hi Your video is super helpful!
Does it matter if the reed is upside down cause I was taught to do it the other way
Thank you,
*THANK YOU SO MUCH!!*

Thank you - you are AMAZING too ! Always remember...there is no such thing as a "wrong" note :-)
Thank you so much. I had been struggling with that higher D but here you are with the clarity!!!!!
Thanks so much Matthew, I've been struggling to play high D as I'm relatively new and this helped so much

Thanks Matthew. That helped and was brief and simple.
Thanks for watching - please keep playing your saxophone.
Thanks Matthew. It's hard to chart the high D but I have sort of made my own mental note. Thanks again. You are very encouraging.
Thank you for watching. Keep making saxophone mental notes and please keep playing your saxophone :-)
Thanks so much I couldn’t figure it out in class and all the other videos were useless thank you for a good grade 🙏
YOU got the good grade @AviBeast because YOU are AWESOME !! Congratulations !! 🎷🎷
Thanks a lot!!
thank you sm i know they show the keys in the book but it’s very hard to understand
I agree. Those strange diagrams in the saxophone books are very odd. It's the same in flute books too !!
I just your love yoyr videos! 😁😁

What should I do when I can’t play D I try but it changes to a different note when I add the register key
Any tips to play middle d it doesn’t sound right but the rest does (I got this 4 days ago so I’m very new and switching from flute)

It's normal
Hello, i also have difficulty with the middle D. It comes out like the high D. How can i fix this?
I can only play the high one, the other two make a weird noise instead of a note
Ello, for some reason whenever I play a low d it always comes out as a middle d, can someone help me?

Hi Matthew I been trying to play D with my six finger. I seem to be getting a high pitch sound instead of a lower tone. Do you know why this is?

The right hand always has the thumb under the thumb hook and the rest of the fingers touching the pearls, although not depressing them.

Hi Kris, yes, I did start on the clarinet as a child. Calling it a "register key" is a hard habit to break :-)
@@HowToPlayTheSax I do the same from time to time.
So hard to play hi D. Even harder when I play A Whiter Shade of Pale, from hi B to D , hi E to D, the instrument tends to sway to and from. 😢😢
Really said register key
Yes. Yes I did.
Say no to squeezing!
Exactly ! Thanks for watching :-)
