As a guitarist of 58 yrs and a machinist for over 50 years I had an idea what to do. I traded and Agile MC-3200 for a Epi Firebird and was like what heck? I had never seen these tuners before. There was no logo on them so I tried looking for a picture and couldn't find one. I finally asked on a musicians board and got the brand. So, here I am, there you are. I have to give you a thumbs up for being so in depth to go through the whole process. Some others might have just said loosen this and that and your good to go...
Good tips. I have a Steinberger equipped Firebird and it can be tricky at first to figure out how far to pull the string through the tuners. Too much and you'll have the top posts sticking out way high. Too little and you'll find you've bottomed out the screw knobs before reaching string pitch. Another tip: Make sure the screw knobs' set screws are tight or you'll lose one and it'll be difficult to find a replacement.
Easy peasy moosh 👍love a Firebird but for some reason never committed. No idea why but always been the first guitar I feel in love of the look of.brilliant as always Matt, love you long time!
Good job on this guide. I have a 2013 Gibson SG Future Tribute with the same machineheads (if i'm not wrong exactly the same). Great tip on not pulling them too tight. I see now that's why I was having issues in the past. I'm not really sure how TH-cam works with tagging and titles but I would request you tag this video up or possibly change the title so that owners of SGs and Les Pauls with the same Steinberger gearless tuning machines can find this video. As I believe it's really the only one that covers it in such detail.
Hi. I’m having trouble with my Low E string on my Firebird. The low E just keeps going out of tune. I’ve done plenty of stretching. I can hear the low E wavering going sharp and flat with fuzz on when I play an open E string ? Is my neck just super sensitive?
So I followed this to the letter but when I'm tuning up to pitch after my 2nd stretch on my D string I run out of tuner to tune up to pitch. What could I be possibly doing wrong? This vid was very informative..
@@Montysguitarsandpickups so I may not be pulling the string tight enough before locking it down? I'll try that. It seems to only be an issue with the A, D string mostly I'll restring tonight I'll let you know if that worked ty fur replying
I'm having an issue with tuning the E string. I lock the string in place and as I turn the knob to tighten and tune, it goes down rapidly. So I have a flimsy high E string and a fully tightened knob that doesn't turn more? How can I fix this
That's a strange one, the only times I've seen this with these tuners is when the locking bolt is damaged or the string wrap at the ball end is unwinding. Are either of those things happening?
@@Montysguitarsandpickups I'm afraid it might be both, I was wanting to take it apart and fix it at home but I'm just gonna take it to a guitar repair shop

Glad you liked it dear chap, and thanks for the set screw tip its a goodn' Cheers M
Thank you for this. I have Steinberger tuners on a “Tranjo” and needed to watch someone else change strings! Thanks again!!
It’s an absolute pleasure, I’m glad it helped
So helpful to those Novices that don’t know, “ make sure the string in the nut” really nice! Perhaps a Luthier’s knot shown but I digress. Bravo
Thanks man

Excellent thanks for this
Thank you. Just needed to verify it was as simple as I thought. Thank you
Audio sound perfect! ;) Cool video.
We got there!
Thank you! Very clear. Cheers!
nice I have a 2017 firebird hp but the robot tuners have been going haywire lately so I think I'm switching to these soon.
A video about setting up Strat style trems would be great, how to float them, downbend only etc.
Thanks Danny I'lll put on the list. Cheers Matt

non-non-reverse lefty firebird... my brain did backflips when it noticed that.
Me too, that was weird!!
How long are the strings ? I need them to be at least 38" for my Firebird.

Hey Keith, try having a little less slack on the string before clamping it down. Let me know if that helps. If not we can try something else. Cheers M
