I wonder how Dolores O'Riordan would feel about this...I mean obviously her family licensed it, but this song is about kids that died in an IRA bombing. I don't think adding trumpets and dancing around in skeleton outfits supports the original message as much as it creates a satire on the human condition.
I understand your point and agree to some extent, but I think you're overthinking this. I mean, the singer is from the US, this alone would be enough to disqualify her legitimacy to cover this song. But technically speaking, this is one of the very best covers of this song I've ever heard and I'm very glad they did it. Besides, have a look back at the official music video from The Cranberries : does Dolores being covered in gold seem to have any link with the IRA ?
We may soon have more people worldwide who had a chance to really listen to the likes of Dolores and Bono and Bowie and all the way down even to Rush.. they heard but didn't listen. Find Jimmy V Espy speech while you're at it. So many heard it then moved on. He tried

Erin’s outfit is amazing.
We saw them at the Coca-Cola Roxy in April. Great Show and the Roxy had great margaritas.

Srlsly You see here only adding trumpets and dancing? I know this copy is not perfect but......
The only requirement for a cover of Zombie is that you have to be able to hear the pain in the singer’s voice. Everything else is secondary.
