Reading the comments I just never get how people talk like Mexico is one singular destination. Mexico is a big country. Most of the danger is concentrated in the North: Chihuahua, Durango, Sonora, B.C. Coahuila, Tamaulipas. It's not so much in the interior. The cartels main business is with the United States so the battles taking place are not surprisingly in the North where all the trade routes are. You can fly to Mexico City & you'll be perfectly fine. You can fly to Cancun or Mazatlan & as long as you stay in the hotel areas you will be relatively safe. Cartel members aren't looking to hunt you down as soon as you arrive in Mexico. Now if you are driving across the border IN to Mexico & you choose certain highways at night, which is stupid, then you might be taking a bit of a risk. The hysteria here is laughable. Understand that Mexico is a BIG COUNTRY. It's not one city. Just like the SOUTHSIDE OF CHICAGO is one place it isn't representative of the ENTIRETY of the United States. It's a diverse country. While there is violence in certain parts there are relatively safe areas where your risk is very minimal.
I wish I could tell people this myself when they act shocked that I go to Mexico. It’s the only way my husbands family can see my kids, as they don’t have papers to come here yet. People act like I am crazy, as if you will get robbed or worse as soon as you cross over. I heard of people from there saying they refuse to visit family….its all so overblown. I know stuff happens but not in the way the Internet has people thinking.
The mainstream media job in America is to always keep Americans in a state of fear no matter what the situation is. Why do you think Americans are so passionate about their 2nd Amendment rights despite daily shooting rampages that occur because of our easy access to firearms. I left America years ago and only go back for family. The fear mongering and close mindedness is off the charts there
I never have any issues when I go to Mexico...just stay in tourist areas and I've even been there for wine tasting driving in small towns during the day of course...beautiful country, friendly people, great food...que viva Mexico 🇲🇽 👍🏾 ❤️
Why???? Why do you continue going to Mexico with all the crap going over there? I was in Tijuana and moved legally to the US and haven't visited for more than 40 years and I would never put myself or my family in danger. I would never return to Tijuana or any part of Mexico cause I don't trust anyone. Sad..and if they had taken the kids them too would have been dead. It's horrible for the same people...Our people do that to eachother. So sad.
So I was born in Mexico City. My dad's family is from there. I don't necessarily like going to Mexico City but there are areas there that rival Beverly Hills. Mexico is a BIG country. People talk about it like it's one big city. It's not. Most of the danger is in the North: Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Sonora, B.C. etc. Growing up I always had to listen to ignorant comments from mostly Chicanos/Mexican Americans about Mexico being dangerous. They have never been to Mexico City or interior Mexico, just border towns. The North is not representative of ALL of Mexico just like some small town in the middle of Idaho doesn't represent ALL of the United States. There is much diversity between cities & states in Mexico. Best way to avoid danger is don't DRIVE into Mexico. FLY to your destination. Some of the hysteria here is going overboard. Your experience as a NORTENA does not reflect all of Mexico.
Lived and worked in four countries in Africa, two in the Arabia Peninsula, two in LATAM, and one in Asia. To the folks there 'America' was/is a country.

As is America, most people from other countries view much of America to be as dangerous as Mexico.
So is Arkansas Mississippi and Alabama if you are from California or Washington. Mexico has every reason to despise the U.S.
This crime however seems like a local political hit. Mayor relative owned propery etc. I have never had a problem in Mexico. However Mississippi didn't like my "Nothern accent."
Same can be said for the US. where over 20,000 people die each year of gun violence. Don't travel there.

Im going to go on a limb here but I think they were involved and somehow pissed off their associates? IFreight industry? WHat is that ? COde for drugs? Angamacutiro is a municipality in the Mexican state of Michoacán it is a cartel stronghold. Nobody would every visit that place especially drive from the USA clearly they were in the bizzzness!
They didn’t drive there. They were in the brother-in-laws truck. However, it was a couple of minutes before midnight when it happened. Weird that they were out so late, especially if the area is known to be dangerous.
The fear mongering and close mindedness is off the charts there
Worked for a Freight company... In an area known for organized crime... Something sounds fishy
Cartel drug related end of story
MEXICO IS NOT, I repeat NOT A SAFE PLACE TO VISIT!!!

When are we going to learn?
Sad.
This is sad, it is bad when they are vacationing and seeing families. Mexico, needs to be help accountable for this loss.
I never have any issues when I go to Mexico...just stay in tourist areas and I've even been there for wine tasting driving in small towns during the day of course...beautiful country, friendly people, great food...que viva Mexico 🇲🇽 👍🏾 ❤️
Always surprises me that people will go to Mexico given the known danger. Anyplace can be dangerous but Mexico's danger is off the charts.
True!! And I'm not prejudiced! I've been married to two mexicans!
So sad.
Yes because we know children are not exempt from their violence
I lived in tijuana as a Gringo and work in San Diego (over 10 years). I never had a problem
