Excellent work! We don't really do SCART here in Australia so I removed the UHF modulator can and installed a mini-DIN socket that took the RGBS signals from the edge connector ... I then made a mini-DIN to RGBS cable to plug directly into my GBS8200 /Brett
What a great follow up to the original video. So much contained in this one, and it's great to see the Enterprise being upgraded. Love how the screen output is positioned so we can see what's happening too. There seemed to be a lot of classic games available for it when you were scrolling through those directories.
Good video, fun, informative and clear. Didn't know anything about the Elan Enterprise, now I do. But not going to switch! Look forward to future explorations.
Never used an original Enterprise micro but I like the look and color scheme. It would be super cool to have a 3d printed copy of the case for a ARM or X86 SBC computer.
I always enjoy an episode of the shack. I couldn't get the song "When I'm Sixty Four" out of my head while watching. I know that this incredible machine will make it to 64 with your love for it.
For me as a Hungarian, but completely immersed in the C=/Amiga world and living abroad these days, it was weird to see all this Hungarian texts and names popping up on your screen. I have a TVC, which is somewhat of a weird cousin of the Enterprise, and I was amazed by the quality of that machine's small community (all Hungarians, as the machine was never sold elsewhere) puts out. I also heard that the Enterprise is "big" in Hungary, and let me tell you - it isn't. Compared to the number of C= people, it's a tiny tiny community. But they seems to be super active, and putting out quality stuff for their beloved machine, just as the TVC folks. Now I'm proud of them, even from this far apart. Cool stuff. Thanks for the video.
Well done, great to see more Enterprise love and I’m glad you got the interface up and running! I’m still hunting for any more details on the SD card solution, but I’ve had no luck either. Having said that, given that there’s no real speed different between it and floppy solution it’s not the end of the world. Two thumbs up!
Another, rather simple thing to make is an adapter to connect proper Atari-style joysticks to the proprietary joystick ports. The only problem for me was to source a fitting connector (which means: I couldn't find any, so I had to cut down an almost fitting one). After building my own, I got an original adapter form eBay... it's still shrink wrapped in it's old packaging. It's worth millions, I suppose...🤔
small correction: Binary programs can be loaded from EXDOS also by :LOAD prgname There are some programs which using the advantage of memory expansion: The Next War - Converted from Spectrum next, and digi music is loaded only on Expanded machine. The Hobbit (new version, it is about 600KB) - everything is loaded into the memory MOD Player SPEMU128 - ZX Spectrum "Software emulator", it works only with expanded machine The Sword of Ianna - Converted from CPC, needs at least 512 KB RAM WAV Player and there are some other games which loads everything into the memory if have enough.
The way the graphics are handled feels like an Amstrad with better colour depth. I'm guessing the system must lack hardware sprites, which isn't surprising considering it was considered a business machine. Very interesting stuff. I was alive, but too young to remember it, so it's kinda nice to see "dead competitors" to the still popular ones(C64, Amstrad and Spectrum in store shelf space order, there were Amigas and STs, but they were reserved for teenagers still at this point) from when I was in primary school.
Just done the 512k ram upgrade which had the PCB made and soldered up myself. No luck finding an SD card solution yet.... Is the tape emulator EPTE by any chance? I've been using Tapir to convert tape files to MP3 and playing on my phone which has worked well. I cut my membrane down to the tear (i ripped both mine opening up!) and stuck some sellotape on the back for support. Sanded the front end to get the contacts shiny. Been find since.
SzörG from the Enterpriseforever forum posted a few days ago that he is building another batch of SD-Card interfaces with parts due in November. He emailed me about a month ago confirming one will be set aside for me.
Damn, I wish mine still worked. Broke it decades ago after its PSU went missing and i tied using a generic switchable one. Must've selected the wrong polarity, cos all i got after that was a black screen when using a speccy pay as a replacement.
BTW, did you find you had no clearance on the EXP2 connection? I added a header to it but found it rubbed the top case so removed it and soldered directly to the motherboard.
Kind of - I used patch cables with the pin pushed through the motherboard and soldered in place so it looks like a header on exp2 but it isn't :). It's pretty tight in there!
@TheRetroShack Hi there, really need some help getting set up. Have an Enterprise 64 and desperately need to source a basic cartridge solution. Do you have any advice please? Best regards Gavin.
Hi! I have sent many times to the link you give for the sd reader but no answer! Do you have another way of communication with the creator of this sd reader? Thank you
Does anyone know where to get a basic cartridge or rom replacement to fit in an Enterprise 64. Am I correct in saying without said basic cartridge the computer is just a typewriter. Not much info about this computer around?
Hi, I see that you ordered 5 memory board, so is there a chance that you can sell me one? By the way, there is another way to have a mass storage device hooked on the Enterprise : the SF3, but it's need an adapter. I have one, if you are interested I can give you more details. Thanks 🙂
I was more excited to read Elan articles in 80s computer magazines than I was reading the magazines in my dad's shed.
LOL. I was working by the eighties, and spent tons of time staring at machines I couldn’t afford - the C64 was $800!
@@waynesworldofsci-tech I started work in 1987. The first thing I bought was an Amiga 500.

Thanks Matthew - it's such a shame that so many of them were Spectrum conversions rather than developers taking the time to exploit the hardware.

there is a not accurate 3d model of EP128 on sketchfab

Part of me wishes the memory update had been 1637K. Because then it would have been an Enterprise 1701...

I have 5 Enterprise 128 machines, 5,25", 3,5" FDD driver, and a New dual 3,5" and "pendrive" 😉
A very entertaining episode. It is great to see the community support for what is, I suppose, a relatively rare computer.
Great to see more of the Enterprise, the SD solution does look really good.

Cheers Mark - the EXDOS interface really was a labour of love and good luck with yours!
It's great that all these retro geeks, like myself, are continuing to support the oild 8bit machines.
8 bits is all you really need :) :)
Solder in the holes is because it is wave soldered and it would require another operator to desolder the holes.
Me = Schooled :)
I went looking for this :) I wonder how much those pools of molten solder stank!
Instead of typing "run" you can press F1 function key to start the program.

Nice - I remember playing with one at one of the big computer shows of the time when it was first being launched - ta for the vid
Crikey, this was a really good home computer.

Ok, I need to know where I can listen to the full version of your intro music. It's fantastic!!

Yep, the tape emulator is EPTE :). If I manage to make progress on the SD Card solution, there'll be an update on the channel for sure :)

Hi just wondering where you got the parts for the sd card solution
Got a enterprise 128 today and whuld be nice to play the games
This was in fact a great video! Just continue this way.
In a different time line it was a great machine.

Now you just need a copy of Trek64 to run on it!!! 😂🤣😂 🖖🏻
I'm half-disappointed that the memory expansion was only 1536kb, and not 1637kb... for a total of 1701kb when installed 😉😋
Me too! Now I'm wondering if that's possible! :)
Hi! Owning an Enterprise 64 I really like this video.
I'd like to get the RAM expansion. - Any suggestion, where I can get one?
Nice upgrades! I didn't realise games like Hero and R-Type came out for the Enterprise, or are they modern home-brew versions?
99.99% of the EP games are home-conversion :)
Have you tried a new EQ on the intro music? It sounds really bass heavy, and a lot like boosted mids as well.
It seems the SD card interface is the easier cheaper way to go?
If you can find one, yes :)
is that the exact the same thumbdrive sd card reader creality suplies with ender 3 printers?
R-type and Nebulus there looked like very much like Amstrad ports
Of course the goal is to bring the memory capacity to 1701k.
Now that would be a cool experiment!
What an amazing old machine. Would have done well in the market if it came out on time. What a loss. BTW Thanks for the video!!!

Also, I believe the SVI-Cas can support this computer via generic settings using tape images. Anyone tried that?
the thing i find annoying is someone makes a membrane for the ent64, but no one makes them for zx spectrum +2.
Yep - I wonder why?

If only you could get a new ROMs for BASIC,Assembler and Panel you know like on the MEMOTECH MTX512.
