How to: Replace recessed lighting w/ cover (in bathroom)

  • THIS VIDEO IS INCOMPLETE. IN THE VIDEO I DO NOT COMPLETE TAKING OUT THE FIXTURE, BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO EDIT AND COMBINE VIDEO CLIPS AT THE TIME. :(
WARNING: Lamp fixtures get hot, and you should probably replace bulbs while your breaker switch is turned off (I didn't).
Just a video how-to of me figuring out how to replace a recessed flood light when the light has a cover on it.
I can't guarantee this will work for all similar lights; this is just how mine was set up.
I don't know the official name for this style; it might be called a covered recessed light; one site called it a lens covering.
If you don't know what kind of bulb it is offhand, you might want to dedicate extra time going to the HW store to find the suitable bulb.

This little th-cam.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.

This was a life saver!. I spent 15 minutes trying to do replace the cover, before I gave up and came to TH-cam, and here I found my exact brand. No telling how long it would've taken me to figure out that I had to pull the hooks out all the way on both sides simultaneously.

Thank you so much! The people who insert these lights never taught me how to replace the bulbs. I too thought it was a spin method to take the cover off. This helps a lot.

Thank You So Much for this video!! I have the same type of light and had no idea how to change the bulb...didn't want to mess up the ceiling! For anyone trying this and it is harder to pull down, mine had a foam seal around the inside of the part you pull down. It was stuck in parts so I had to pull it gently to not tear the ring. This tutorial made this job so easy! I had been thinking about this for days and after watching the vid, I changed the bulb in 5 min. Thank you again!!!

Thank you!! I've had changing the light bulb on my covered bathroom fixture on my "to do" list for a year and finally did a google search (I was about ready to call the electrican, which felt like overkill for changing a lightbulb). Your explanation was perfect and took me about three minutes.

Just replaced the bulb over my shower in about 3 minutes thanks to this video. Couldn't for the life of me figure out the cover. Had to get a small flat head screwdriver to pry it cover off it was so tight to the ceiling. Thanks!

lmao, omg...i waited years and just figured I don't need that light since their are 8 bulbs over the sink that are very bright and easy to change. Finally decided it's time to fix the light. saw your video, thought to myself...ok, I got this! pulled the cover down and.......its just a regular bulb🤣. reached in swapped it out. Thank you for the video.

Thanks for making this video! It was super helpful to change the light bulb in my shower stall. I was wondering how I was going to get that cover off. Your instructions were spot on. Luckily I didn't have to pull the latches out as there was a small spiral bulb in mines that I was able to remove by leaning the cover to the side. I replaced the bulb in less than 3 mins!

a million thanks--for months had postponed attempting this job. This is the best video. It was not necessary for me to disassemble the entire apparatus. I have small hands & was able to install a 75watt bulb. Helpful hint--have a damp cloth or paper towel handy to wipe the dust & bulbs from inside the cover.

thanks man! I have to replace a a bulb with the EXACT fixture. Only diffrence is its outside and 3 stories up. I REALLY wish you had included how to reconnect the hooks. I have very little room to move around on a ladder and as easy as it is to get the two facing me (the ones we see in the flim) but I can not see the other two at all unless I stand on the ladder backwards (which scares the crap out of me)
    Still, tyvm!

I have tile ceiling stall was replacing an LED light fixture that was upgraded. Unfortunately the unit I purchased from Amazon is not sitting flush with the tile wall. Is this just because it’s a no brand unit that is probably too cheap. I already placed an order for the Halo. Reason I bought the other was the Halo unit rusted out so poorly even though damp rated. I was so disenchanted.

I hour of messing with it I took the whole thing out of the ceiling by squeezing the springs up in the can and pulling it all out. Then you can use pliers to get the spring back on the other side. Push the spring ends together to reattach. It's quick once you get fed up and pull the whole bleeping thing out of the can! Very poor design. If only the springs were an inch longer you could fit a finger in them at least. I had to use a hammer and all to open the spring holder on the flange. luck 2 U
