Excellent day out. Yeah, agree with A Adam. It's also in the Bryant Range, not quite over to the Richmonds! The walk up to Mt Melita is worth the effort as well. They had a big telescope up there in 1963 but found Richmond's lights were too bright so moved it to Mt John. Has a decent hut to service the telescope, although just a concrete pad is nearby from the astronomy days.

Thanks for the comment. I was actually intending on climbing up to Mt Malita from Champion Mine but time was tight and there was no obvious track. I’ve since read that there is a way though. And yeah, I totally got the pronunciation wrong by all accounts haha.

Awesome Sam. I read a blog post on this trip a while ago and thought it looked like a fascinating little walk so close to Nelson. I almost asked if you guys had done it! Think I also read about someone continuing up United Creek to climb straight up to Rocks Hut. Looked like a bit of yakka. Cheers

Thanks ReviloNZ. There are a few options to carry on to huts like Rocks Hut or Mt Malita Hut but there’s not obvious track or markers to suggest which way is the best. I was hoping to link up to Mt Malita but I just couldn’t find anywhere that looked like a safe and reasonable route up although apparently there is an old track somewhere. I might have to loop it the other way one day so I can find it.

It's not Rodding bro! It's Road-ing. Cool Track. Thanks for the walk through.
