Renee Fleming nailed it...... No one else has ever come close.
I remember her being interviewed before the performance and they asked her if she was nervous singing this. She said, no singing it is no problem, I'm just worried with all the people watching, I might trip over my own feet or something. She had such confidence singing it.
Whitney had the best taped performance.

This is world class. It’s rich in tone. No surprise here. The best in the world.
What a thrill, after sitting through so many tired old versions of this song. I would actually listen to it if it always sounded like that. Renee was asked by a naïve interviewer before the performance if she was nervous about hitting the high notes. She gracefully said she wasn't bothered by it. I guess she really wasn't!
Right. Those who's not interested in opera or classical singing may find her unknown. But she really is one of the biggest name of opera soprano in her time, she's quite reliable.
Yeah, it’s not even at the top of her range. She has sung much more difficult music for much tougher crowds.

So The Star Spangled Banner can basically only be performed correctly by classically trained opera singers and Whitney Houston. I wish whoever is in charge of this for events would understand this.

Well yeah this is probably what will you consider an opera version of The Anthem. Whitney Houston sings A blues version of The Anthem. Whitney's vocal dexterity goes Way Beyond this. It's also a Goosebumps hair standing on end with a tear in your eye version.

It’s frustrating to hear all these folks saying that Whitney’s version of our anthem is so much better than Renée’s. IN MY OPINION, Renée’s version is MUCH better!!! A big plus for Renée is that she is still ALIVE to sing it!!!
@@entity9588 Lol!! Never understood this stance - Whitney's is an all time great, but by no mean's the clear #1. There have been so many incredible performances since hers, a handful of which are IMO clearly better (including this one). I don't think I'm deaf either... ;)

Superb! Brilliant idea to have an opera singer/star show how the SSB should be sung. No one has ever sung it better at any Superbowl or other sporting event! I'm not an opera fan, but this is as good version of the SSB as I have heard! Move over Beyoncé and Whitney...
she sang the star spangled banner the way my middle school music teacher MrsNancyTaylor would have wanted the correct way.she mentioned during that period of time the late 1970s that Johnny Mathis was the only popular singer who interpreted the song correctly.

I think she did it better than Joyce DiDonato at the world series later the same year. Joyce was good but i have never heard our national anthem performed better than Ms Fleming.
My favorite version of our Anthem. Renee Fleming makes it look so easy- amazing Tessitura! If anyone 'took a knee' while she sang, I'm glad they didn't show it.
There is nothing disrespectful to the anthem or the country about taking a knee. If that's how you feel, I hope you're not a cop.
