The "un" or "in" ending indicates that the word it is attached to is a proper name. Similarly, you cannot find the word "Khadijah" or "Ayesha" in Arabic. What you find is "Khadijahtu" or "Ayeshatu" but the "tu" indicates that it is a proper name for a female. Just like Muhammadun", the last few letters are not pronounced. (This is why many Africans say "Muhammadu" or "Ahmadu" because they DO pronounce it!) This should be easy to understand because when we read the Qur'an or pronounce the Adhan, according to the rules of recitation, we often drop the last syllable when we pronounce it unless we are going to proceed to the next line without stopping! P.S. This is also the case in the Bible's Song of Solomon when it says "My beloved is "Muhammadim" or it says "Elohim" as opposed to "Elah" (or "Alah"). The ending indicates it is a respected name of honor!
