@@ColinM_TH-cam Yes, they thought they were going down the corridor, across the yard to another part of the jail. Not 20 steps from their bed! Albert Pierrpoint's fastest execution was 7 seconds from entering the cell to pulling the lever on the trapdoor!

The condemned had no idea that they were spending their final hours living next to the hangman’s noose.

In Aussie Slang Gaol refers to Jail..So in Irish too..!
It’s old English word for jail. You can use either or, but in this instance I used it because that is how this experience uses it.
