Hannah Grayson theater and songs you hear on the radio are not going to sound the same there’s different sounds that project better on a stage which is the reason singers have to belt a certain way or pronounce things certain ways. That’s why I clicked but then I saw that I got what she meant just in that performance it was weird and she’s got such an insane belt it seems unnecessary
I think Barrett’s problem is that she didn’t have proper technique while singing heathers so I think she’s prematurely damaged her voice which sucks cuz she had such an amazing voice but she just didn’t use it right
Yeah all the puppets sound nasally (is that the right word for it?) in the musical. It's the whole point of it, they're meant to be like Kermit the Frog-y.
@@dnacat5062 Kate also specificially has the high pitched voice. The second lady who belted sounded great, she kept the voice with her belt, but it sounded like she might've had to lower the note a little
Okay, these aren't necessarily a reflection of the singer's abilities, but sometimes the composer's. Some of these songs just have super nasty vowels on super difficult notes that anyone would have an aneurysm trying to sing it properly.
The only one I'll really defend is Stephanie D'Abruzzo on Fine Fine Line...she's voicing a muppet-esque character, and she's clearly putting on a voice for Kate, rather than using her full, actual voice. The other girls belt it wonderfully, but they're using their full voices and it kind of..distracts from the puppet.
everytime I see Buzzfeed or some other shitty site include it in a 'great musical movies' alongside the golden era movie musicals I want to burst the writers ear drums because they aren't using them right.
that's how I'm feeling about the latest mean girls movie and if you've seen it you might agree. I like some of the songs, but a lot of them are just not good counterparts to the musical songs. But I think it's a good movie, the casting is good and I really like the non singing parts.
@Daniel M. I didn't say it's not taxing. I didn't even imply it. I was in the sphere of saving your voice doesn't make the best belts that can be done. For obvious reasons. If you're restricting your voice, you aren't doing the most you can. The most usually sounds better, but yes; it will ruin your voice. That's a choice singers have to make. And I never frowned upon saving it. I said pointing it out doesn't make it sound better.
In Barrett's defense her vocal chords went through it after Heathers. I congratulate her for being able to even hit those notes. Edit: Since people are complaining, if you damage your vocal chords 3 years ago (let’s say 2017) they’re still gonna be damaged today. It doesn’t matter how long ago it was, you’re going to permanently be effected. Second, if the vowels sounded like ‘Be me than be with you’ that would just sound.. wrong. Instead of ‘Bay may than bay with you.’ Barrett’s vocal chords *did* go through it after Heathers, you can look up a comparison video of her singing right here on TH-cam if you don’t believe me. Also before I get that one comment, I’m not saying that the creator of the video is wrong as this is their opinion (it’s pretty obvious by the title). I just wanted to add my input.
miu the cum dumpster she permanently damaged her vocal cords in Heathers though so she will always have that as the reason she isn’t as good as she used to be
Like try fucking doing it for a show and singing that part. It’s not easy not at all. There’s so much direction to it. The music for legally blonde is so good and hitting those high notes and holding those notes is so so so so difficult like we do not criticise legally blonde not now not ever
yeah like???? at least kate monsters original actress was like a professional child's puppeteer. she's able to create this rlly convincing character of cate monster that doesn't have to dissipate for the actress to show off.
Ab rather be me, she’s stated that she doesn’t have her Veronica range any more bc that role messed up her voice that’s why rather be me isent not as high as we expect from her Veronica days
ok but... a cautionary tale, apex predator, revenge party and someone gets hurt reprise are very high and generally sound much better than rather be me
I'd Rather be Me has a D5 in it, which shows that the B4's are still within her range. Paradoxically, it may actually be harder for her to sing 'not that high' notes like B4 if they sit at an awkward transition zone in her voice. I suspect that the issue is that the B4s are sung staccato in a row, and the B4 is close to a passeggio , which would make it harder to sing than one D5
peachy it’s a lyric issue. The vowels suck. I’d be interested to hear what a voice teacher would suggest a student do (the way anyone would say sing “Wizard an DAAAAHHHHYYYYY” instead of anstriaght I vowel)
Crap Bag so ur saying that she should try to go high on that note even tho she clearly cant bc the role messed up her voice- and that basically since its lower it isnt as good as the other high notes....not every good note in musicals are high
The wasn’t anything bad about Christina’s vowel change. I’ve watched multiple vocal coaches reacting to her say that she is one of the only Anastasias to belt the note safely and correctly.
yeah that's just like... how you sing. I agree with the first half of the sentiments in this video but after that most of the complaints were about things that were either fine or actually really good
She has to use a voice while singing with a puppet i mean look at nicky in the same musical in "if you were gay" he sounds like kermit the frog the whole time but thats how it is
Elim Kwok I heard a wonderful lady sing that song on the UK leg of the Avenue Q tour and she used a muppet esque voice but when she (Cecily Jane) did the end belt it was just incredible
Elim Kwok I don’t know if they’re saying not to use the muppet voice they’re just saying that they would rather it be a belt than a switch to her head voice

Hanabutmynameisrebecca they’re literally not out of tune. I need everyone criticizing anything in this video to learn how to sing on broadway and come back
Jmo okay bro honestly I wasn’t going to reply but I’m getting mad so idk. what would it matter if i could or could not sing all of these songs perfectly? would you tell me i can’t dislike a movie unless i am actively a director? it’s not about thinking ‘i can do this better’ it’s about ‘i didn’t enjoy this’. this video was just some person making a compilation of vocal moments that bothered them. it wasn’t an attack, it wasn’t a critique, literally just someone saying ‘i personally don’t like these moments’ which is a perfectly acceptable thing to do. fyi i never pull this out but i do actually have years of vocal experience including broadway. So yeah some, not all of the notes were a bit off, which is perfectly fine because it’s live music, that’s what makes it live and real and not a studio recording, but the notes are still a bit out and it’s OKAY for that to bother someone! and honestly i don’t even agree with some of the moments that made this list. im just tired of musical theatre fans attacking someone for not liking a particular moment just because they worship the ground a performer walks on. it’s cliquey and i hope that everyone matures enough to be able to accept other people’s opinions and be able to listen even if they don’t agree. We’re all just people who like music who want to share the passion even if it’s revolving around a dislike. i’m sorry if i came across as rude or anything like that, i would actually be happy to share what i think bothered this person in this particular moments that people don’t seem to be noticing
OH MY GOD SOMEONE WHO FINALLY AGREES WITH ME ON LA LA LAND the score and choreography are absolutely beautiful, perfect in my opinion. but the singing... girl. it's like it was a 2 in a room full of 10s.
I appreciate that Damien Chazzelle wanted to try something new but a musical needs SINGERS. Not actors who took singing lessons for 6 months before shooting smh 🤦
Yeah, they can disagree, but some people in the comments decided to completely bash on this video and their opinion. I mean, I get that you can disagree but is being rude about it necessary?
Her vowels are literally perfect too like in order to keep the integrity of the note you have to modify the vowels so you don't one hurt your voice and two so it actually sounds correct. Anyway she did it perfectly
genuinely don’t understand why the theatre kids clicked on the damn video if they couldn’t handle someone jokingly ragging on some admittedly rough sounding vocals 😭 like girly just click the next vid it’s not that serious
@bada bing bada boom We have a passion for Musical Theater and to entertain people and make them happy and bring them into another world where we are telling them a story through Singing, dancing, and acting.
nothing is wrong it just sounds/feels a little off. i dont think the issue was improper technique, simply just the way it sounds and is composed. the last belt in "in my dreams" is personally my least favorite belt to a) listen to b) perform.
Thank you for pointing out about La La Land. I literally feel like the vocalist sound like they're singing from the corridor outside the booth, it's so muted and lacklustre. Not their fault, just a production choice but still...
@@lavendelchen low key for real. The backups were so much better than the actual protagonists. I love Emma stone and ryan gosling as actors, but it's just sad no one gets actual musical theater people anymore
And whenever you point this out, people are like, "BuT tHaT's tHe pOiNt!! They aren't supposed to be good singers; they're supposed to sound like regular people!" Fucking WHY. WHY make a musical deliberately shitty? I can listen to myself sing poorly every day. I could watch myself act poorly every day if I wanted to. I go to movies/theater to see people with serious talent!
sharksandsheep I low key get why they chose actors with so so vocals. It’s because they wanted it to be more of a romance and not a musical. So when the actors are ok singers it becomes more lovable as a romance/ “ sun drenched experience” . The whole sun thing is there words not mine.
The lord Algorithm hath lead me here and I have this to say: I interpreted Anatole’s extreme(ly unnecessary) high pitched notes to be a part of his character. Anatole is a major drama queen, to the point that he constantly sings as LOUD as possible to be the centre of attention. I mean just look at when he bitchily left the show! I think the “BURG” of “FOR PETERSBURG” is still rattling around in my skull years later.
Exactly! TGC does this a lot, you can tell a character's personality by their voice, like Sonya being so soft and almost mumbling, it's a part of their character. Great Comet is more of an abstract artistical show rather than a standard Broadway musical.
Yesss! This is so valid oh my gosh. It adds to his character and it makes sense. Most of the males have lower ranges so it’s nice that he stands out with those higher notes
I think great comet sounded pinched and nasal but otherwise the vocals were great. I personally don’t really like Mamma Mia and I do think her vibrato technique is weird compared to others.
Okay cmon if you actually do a lot of theatrical singing it is so unhealthy to pronounce it as actually DAYYY instead of something like da-eh. Or MEEE instead of may. Especially when you’re belting. It causes so much extra strain and damages the chords and causes restriction that makes it harder to belt. I agree with some of the stuff on this list but anything about vowels is so unfair that’s just healthy singing
well that’s not like fully true. vowel modifying doesn’t always have to be done for everyone. like, it’s a technique that works well when it needs to be done. and while it is easier to strain if you don’t modify your vowels, it’s not necessarily always healthier. for instance, as long as i use good breath support and keep space in my mouth, i can sing the end of rather be me without modifying and without strain. there’s so much to it besides the vowel itself. it’s rlly fascinating how many moving parts you have to keep in mind to have good technique.
A note for other viewers... In defense of most of these vocalists, they're making smart choices for the sake of preserving their voices. Vowel modification is normal and often necessary for healthy belts, that "weird head voice thing" is just twang, how tf else is a male supposed to hit a female soprano note without using falsetto, vibrato at the end of a sustained belt is normal and a sign that the singer is using the healthiest technique possible, etc.. Most of these are all just issues that come down to listener preference, not evidence of bad vocals.
for the kocked up intervals, you are correct that they dont sound right. Theyre dissonant intervals, meaning they really dont sound pretty, but theyre meant to be resolved into "prettier" chords.
No no, he Said himself that its a joke (which 95% of us agree is a stretch, we Think this video is just mean) so remeber Trevor it is not his actual opinion, its a “joke”...
The thing is, opinions are totally fine, if the person doesn't like it and says so, who cares? But stating something like 'that harmony is off' or 'someone is pitchy' is just a totally different thing, because they definitely weren't off, but meant to sound that way. It's just a difference between saying what you like about something, and what you don't like and saying something that just isn't true 😅 Anyways though, I get why the person found some of these to be bad moments. Even though the vowel changes do have their purpose, they do sound ridiculous if it's so obvious like in I'd rather be me. 🤷🏼♀️
I think her vibrato at the end is honestly pretty lovely! I think this video fails to remember that a lot of the choices in vocals go back to playing a character. Lily James had kind of a dreaminess to her voice, which makes sense when playing Donna.
I think it works cause as Elphaba points out later in the musical, he's unhappy, everything is an act. So to me it makes sense that if you search for it, he sounds (and looks) a bit empty inside. Thats just my opinion lol, no hate intended on yours 😊
Ciara Atkins they just don’t have even a basic understanding of how musical composition works. Probably never touched an instrument or taken vocal lessons in their life.
um, vibrato is good. You're supposed to do it to have consistent air and be able to sing longer notes and sustain them for longer. Straight tone is what hurts vocalist because you strain yourself to do it and you're not moving any air.
Waving through a window has vibrato written all over it. I appreciated more this song when ramin sang his version but there was not much vibrato in the ohhh part which i found weird.
that wasn’t very good vibrato. it was kind of forced and too fast, not very controlled. probly helped her sing, but honestly if you don’t have a gift for vibrato it’s harder to sing with it than without it
Annika Svenningsen thank you 👏🏻 glad somebody said it because my interpretation was this person doesn’t know that it’s called being theatrical instead of technical because singing the part isn’t enough to be the part. It’s called being the character.
yea, to me it’s way too nit picky. being on broadway or even in a movie does a lot to you even if you are healthy and train yourself- people have bad days. that doesn’t mean their not talented.
actors in musical theater have to push through illnesses to sing numbers that go outside their vocal ranges, bad technique can certainly lead to injury but so can sheer vocal load in those with great technique, i’ve even heard of voices giving way after a particularly aggressive sneeze
there is a lot more vocal chord injury in broadway and the music industry in general than we ever hear about because they blame themselves for bad technique
gracenoelle that wasn’t very good vibrato. it was kind of forced and too fast, not very controlled. probly helped her sing, but honestly if you don’t have a gift for vibrato it’s harder to sing with it than without it
Luthien you realize people have different vibratos. Some people’s are very fast take Freddie Mercury for example. Some people’s are very strong and slower like Chip Zien. Hers is perfectly fine
abby there is not rlly different kinds of vibrato just ppl who are more skilled at it than others. i’m not saying it sounds bad, just that it’s not at the highest skill level yet.
Olivia Mantero same! But my cry was internal lol, but she could definitely make a tear show up on anyone! And she is also one of the kindest people also and so nice to talk to when I went to stage door
I've only seen the first few but I usually cut people slack in these situations. It's usually just a bad day. It's when it's consistently bad that it's a problem.
Oh my god same. Honestly I think It sounds really good. I could understand why she doesn’t like the sound of it but I think he sounded really good and he sounded very close to the actual album with is something hard to pull off.
Some vowels on certain notes are so awkward and hard to sing so some of these people get a pass for me. Cause even when they try to sing the proper vowels sometimes it can sound worse...The ones from this video are Berrett (Janis), Christy (Anastasia), and Norbert (Fiyero). Also, it's just my opinion, but I thought they sounded fine lol
Did she state that she had actual vocal knowledge? It’s called an opinion dude. Just like your opinion is that this isn’t a good video, and that’s valid cause it’s just that: an opinion.
Hey so I actually agree with some of these, like the frozen vocals (yuckee) and la la land being too quiet, but I kinda thought from the title it would be like, mostly live vocal mess-ups and some much worse stuff, because there are some realllllyyyy bad vocals you can find out there so I can see why some people were upset I guess?? But It's literally just your opinion though so can't really understand why people get so offended lmao
@@toshi9206I don't think so... Most of these were actually really valid. In MT, they teach you to place consonants at the very end of notes. So she would have sounded perfectly fine if she didn't modulate her vowels. They "y" of day could have been a millisecond lol. But even then... I could tell that this vid was lighthearted.
Piper Keusch I disagree, the resonance felt very thin, as it does in the head voice and falsetto register. It was clearly not falsetto due to how connected it was to the main voice, but the placement was very firmly placed in his upper nasal cavity, making the sound very clearly in his headier mix/possible falsetto. The “masked falsetto” as it’s typically called, is also often used by tenors such as Mitch Grassi, Sam Smith, and Chris Colfer. It’s no insult to say that he’s mixing or falsetto-ing those notes. It’s no less impressive to say that he’s singing in his head voice than it is to say he’s in his full belt, because what matters is how good it sounds, not what register you hit the note in.
the club knocked up harmonies follow more jazzy music conventions & go from a Cdim7 chord (club knocked) which is meant to sound a little crunchy, then resolve to a g major chord (up), the root chord of the song, which sounds really pretty so that builds a moment of musical tension where the notes don't sound quite right then quickly fixes it and breaks the tension by playing the notes you expect to hear!! i personally rly like it :) but also i'm obsessed with this video you're an icon and i would not object to more hot takes
Chill out, they’re not trying to give constructive criticism here. They’re just giving their opinion. If people are allowed to make videos with their favorite vocals, people can do the same with their least favorite. I don’t agree with everything they said here, and you can tell these are unprofessional opinions-but it doesn’t m a t t e r.
@@claudiaspence7814 I think its more of that a lot of the opinions stated in the video didn't follow a lot of things that are taught in choirs or to singers. For example the person who created this video said that the way the person (Sorry I don't know names) who played Anastasia sang day weirdly but if you were to sing that high up with that vowel it would come out pinched and not very lovely sounding.
okay so I wasn’t gonna reply to this lmao cause I don’t wanna get into some petty arguments but like I feel like I have to defend myself. I have no problem with the creator disliking these moments, fair enough, that’s their opinion and everyone has one. however, I do have a problem with publicly announcing that dislike (whilst also giving bad ‘criticism’). if eating at a restaurant, yes of course you can dislike the food and have that opinion, however you wouldn’t go and tell the chef how to make it differently because they clearly already know what they’re doing. also, I realise this is a joke video and they’re not intending to criticise but by even making this video in the first place, they are criticising people on something they clearly aren’t very well educated on themselves.
Claudia Spence you are allowed to have an opinion , but you CANNOT try to to critic a professional on what sounds good if you have no actual experience . Critiquing a singer is different from a movie
4:10 ok I can kinda get this but they way u “criticized” it in the video makes it seem that u would of had it prefer to go “DAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEE” which is INFINITELY worse
@@gigik_ not really. If a vowel needs to be modified for diction purposes... It should probably be done right at the end as opposed to the middle of it which makes it sound strange.
@@bryanabriz508 yes exactly!! like in defying gravity, when elphaba sings the word "down" and holds it, she essentially holds the vowel and then right at the end, adds the "wn" sound (doooooooown), and it sounds much better than if she sang dooooowwwwnnnn lmao
Bryan Abriz The reason the vowel needs to be changed is so it can be belted more easily without straining your voice, there would be no point in singing the normal vowel and then changing it at the end.
I don't like Anna's belt. I think her head voice belt in comparison to elsa belts are better if that makes sense. Her voice is better like that I think. Just my opinion
As someone not professionally trained, who thinks most of these sound just fine, can you explain these hot takes with a better argument than “ew”s and “nasty”s
Angela Hsiao I am also not an expert, but the most recurring problem is either how the vowels sound (like with Barrett Wilbert Weed’s “be me than be with you”) or the registers that the singers use (like how Lucas Steele uses really high falsetto in Letters). Other than that, it’s because it might sound a little “pitchy” or “out of breath” or even just too over the top with vibrato
I’m not an expert but have had vocal training for years, and in defense of the creator, some of these are yikes. Hitting the notes does not equal a good performance, there’s breath support, vowels, and a bunch of other factors that this video’s examples are lacking. IMO I generally agree with the video.
GeckowoTheGreat yeah absolutely. Saying ew and gross doesn’t help anyone improve. I meant that I agree that some of the performances weren’t as good as they could have been. Sorry for any confusion!

@@brandonkarl If she'd closed it off with a dipthong at the end of the note, then it would have perhaps sounded slightly less odd.

The only one I'll really defend is Stephanie D'Abruzzo on Fine Fine Line...she's voicing a muppet-esque character, and she's clearly putting on a voice for Kate, rather than using her full, actual voice. Singing a hard “eee” in a high belt is hard. It usually turns into an “eh” or however you type. Barrett is incredible and keeping her voice safe.
I think belting an i would of sounded better than the bay, would of been easier to mix too
Yeah can you imagine how horrible a belted eeeeeeee would sound
Keeping your voice safe doesnt make u sound better bad excuse

Second, if the vowels sounded like ‘Be me than be with you’ that would just sound.. wrong. Instead of ‘Bay may than bay with you.’
Barrett’s vocal chords *did* go through it after Heathers, you can look up a comparison video of her singing right here on TH-cam if you don’t believe me.
Also before I get that one comment, I’m not saying that the creator of the video is wrong as this is their opinion (it’s pretty obvious by the title). I just wanted to add my input.
which is why it is so important to treat your voice with care and go on regular vocal rests after something as crazy as Veronica 8 times a week.
heathers ended in 2014. mean girls premiered in 2018. you can’t use heathers as an entire scapegoat.
But like...she didn’t tho....

miu the cum dumpster she permanently damaged her vocal cords in Heathers though so she will always have that as the reason she isn’t as good as she used to be

okay in defense of Barrett have you ever listened to someone do the proper vowels? its even WORSE (also so much more potential for strain)
SupItsGina yes, and she was fantastic
They’re just ugly ass vowels to belt. There’s no wiggle room either. It’s a lyric problem.
I love Barrett but she could have just rounded out the e and u and raised her soft palate.
Claire Littman Honestly.
Claire Littman what does that mean lol
If playing Veronica really messed up her voice that much, than she was never using proper vocal technique in the first place.
The wasn’t anything bad about Christina’s vowel change. I’ve watched multiple vocal coaches reacting to her say that she is one of the only Anastasias to belt the note safely and correctly.
With her other songs she does it too, I quite like it
yeah that's just like... how you sing. I agree with the first half of the sentiments in this video but after that most of the complaints were about things that were either fine or actually really good
Oh my god, she used a Muppet voice while playing a Muppet, how horrible...

The lord Algorithm hath lead me here and I have this to say:
I interpreted Anatole’s extreme(ly unnecessary) high pitched notes to be a part of his character. Anatole is a major drama queen, to the point that he constantly sings as LOUD as possible to be the centre of attention. I mean just look at when he bitchily left the show! I think the “BURG” of “FOR PETERSBURG” is still rattling around in my skull years later.
yes yes yes yes yes this is valid
Jean hm okay. I can see this.
Jean legit Anatole’s C#5 was written as a joke, but they kept it in because Lucas is an absolute legend
a lot of these vowels are hard an awkward to belt and hold which is why they sound more like pitchy
Am I just insane for actually liking most of these “bad” vocal moments???
No, because most of them aren't bad they're just stylistic choices
No I agree with you some of these sound so good
Nah some of these are just techniques or stylistic choices
i don’t see a problem with most of them, especially great comet, and mama mia, but DO NOT COME FOR CHRISTY ALTOMARE

I think great comet sounded pinched and nasal but otherwise the vocals were great. I personally don’t really like Mamma Mia and I do think her vibrato technique is weird compared to others.
313th like
A nobody who?
Girl for the avenue Q one that’s the voice the directors made her use for her voice. You gotta ready up and watch shows. Damn.
I agree with some of the stuff on this list but anything about vowels is so unfair that’s just healthy singing
well that’s not like fully true. vowel modifying doesn’t always have to be done for everyone. like, it’s a technique that works well when it needs to be done. and while it is easier to strain if you don’t modify your vowels, it’s not necessarily always healthier. for instance, as long as i use good breath support and keep space in my mouth, i can sing the end of rather be me without modifying and without strain. there’s so much to it besides the vowel itself. it’s rlly fascinating how many moving parts you have to keep in mind to have good technique.
andy I still think it’s so unfair to build almost an entire list based off vowel techniques that work best for the people
Baylor Webb yeah that’s valid. i disagreed heavily with most of this list.
EXACTLY
yeah for a lot of this video I agree, but I think it wasn't correct to criticize Christy on that part
Theyre dissonant intervals, meaning they really dont sound pretty, but theyre meant to be resolved into "prettier" chords.
it’s almost like people who actually compose music wrote it for that reason. i think this person just doesnt know what they’re talking about

It's just a difference between saying what you like about something, and what you don't like and saying something that just isn't true 😅
Anyways though, I get why the person found some of these to be bad moments. Even though the vowel changes do have their purpose, they do sound ridiculous if it's so obvious like in I'd rather be me. 🤷🏼♀️
Hanna B girl did you even watch the video, the harmonies were SUPER OFF 💀

Exactly. You can’t sing ‘day’ like you speak it. You have to place your vowel a certain way otherwise it won’t sound right lol

um, vibrato is good. You're supposed to do it to have consistent air and be able to sing longer notes and sustain them for longer. Straight tone is what hurts vocalist because you strain yourself to do it and you're not moving any air.
Oh, man, I love vibrato. Both using it and hearing it.
I think they’re pointing out the warble that come out of her mouth that’s basically a shitty vibrato 😭

belting isnt vocal cord murder if you do it right??? messy technique will damage ur vocal cords Bad though (see barrett wilbert weed)
actors in musical theater have to push through illnesses to sing numbers that go outside their vocal ranges, bad technique can certainly lead to injury but so can sheer vocal load in those with great technique, i’ve even heard of voices giving way after a particularly aggressive sneeze
there is a lot more vocal chord injury in broadway and the music industry in general than we ever hear about because they blame themselves for bad technique

He Said himself that it is a joke, which means that his “opinion” is not real. Also this whole video is just mean...
No need to do Lucas Steele’s falsetto dirty like that
Mia W that’s not even his falsetto!!! That’s his damn belt (that’s how amazing he is)
The funniest thing is I don’t even like his falsettos and I had the same exact voice teacher as him😭😭
Cooper Hoffman that's definitely not a belt. Heady mix at the very least.
Tommy Tran It’s a chest mix with thick vocal folds and a belt resonance
ANATOLE’S PART IS GREAT WHAT DO YOU MEAAAAAN
3:06 is the best version of Kate Monster. She belts properly while maintaining the cartoonish voice. It’s a tightrope, but it can be done.
Personally I hated her voice the way she made the puppet sound was horrid... The other two were better.
the club knocked up harmonies follow more jazzy music conventions & go from a Cdim7 chord (club knocked) which is meant to sound a little crunchy, then resolve to a g major chord (up), the root chord of the song, which sounds really pretty so that builds a moment of musical tension where the notes don't sound quite right then quickly fixes it and breaks the tension by playing the notes you expect to hear!! i personally rly like it :) but also i'm obsessed with this video you're an icon and i would not object to more hot takes
Caroline Tobin yesssss, another musically educated woman, bless tf up 🙌🏻
me: boppin, agreein, feelin it
you: avenue q
me: hold up
OKAY MOOD I ACTUALLY GOT ANNOYED FOR SOME DUMB REASON-
wise words from my mt college tutor “if you’re not qualified to criticise. don’t.”
So you aren’t allowed to dislike a movie if you have no degree? Or you aren’t allowed to dislike a food because you aren’t a chef?
Critiquing a singer is different from a movie
put the whole 2014 annie in here
Aw I enjoyed that movie
I listen to Hard Knock Life, when they sing alone it's great but when they sing together in the chorus it's umm welll
4:10 ok I can kinda get this but they way u “criticized” it in the video makes it seem that u would of had it prefer to go “DAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEE” which is INFINITELY worse
For real! You have to modify the vowels when a note is that long
@@gigik_ not really.
I just dont like how that Anna sings in general
oof same
I don't like Anna's belt. I think her head voice belt in comparison to elsa belts are better if that makes sense. Her voice is better like that I think. Just my opinion
@@madisonh.2992 exactly! I think it just suits her character so much more 💞
As someone not professionally trained, who thinks most of these sound just fine, can you explain these hot takes with a better argument than “ew”s and “nasty”s
@@EMMCNE I agree with the videos picks somewhat, but I dont agree with the straight up rude comments rather than constructive criticism
GeckowoTheGreat yeah absolutely. Saying ew and gross doesn’t help anyone improve. I meant that I agree that some of the performances weren’t as good as they could have been. Sorry for any confusion!
I'm not an expert I just like to sing but you can hear that something's wrong even without knowing what
