The light novels are better than the anime.

Oregairu holds a special place on my heart since way back hs,college, and till now as a working adult. Gave me both despair and motivation on my early youth days. It really is a amazing show because everytime you rewatch it, the more you really understood over the time how really deep its plot is.

The author of the Oregairu light novels, Wataru Watari, essentially admits to what you've expressed in his closing commentary of the 1st volume: 'What I'm writing is a lie. Real high school life is just you chilling with another dude on the streets or in a mall until evening with nothing really happening. And that is why I wanted to imagine this life. It's what we wanted to imagine our high school life.'
I didn't quote him word for word -- just decribing the gist of it from my memory. He's fully aware he writes 'anime', so to say, but the psychological portraits of his characters and their dynamics catch the real essence of adolescence.

Awesome essay, and totally agreed! Can relate a lot to your experience. I also had the breakthrough of realizing that constantly retreating to memories and the past only damages the present. It's a good think to look back from time to time to compare it with the now and remember things, but getting stuck in the past won't do no good. And damn, I also had a thought the other day that society becomes like the one in Wall-E lol. It's basically what sociologists call atomization (or social alienation). And I also -am going- went through a Hachiman phase haha.
I've just rewatched Oregairu this winter for the first time since high school and have been following one YT channel's reaction to it these last few months. It's called Psyculturist and it's run by a psychologist who analyzes (and does an amazing job at it) various anime live on Twitch. He rekindled my fixation on Oregairu good haha. Made me realize a lot of nuanced little things in the story that make it so outstanding.
What is love??? Man, when you ask it like that it feels pretentious to give just a short comment of an answer, and I'm not up to making my own videoessay lol. Love can be everything and everywhere, but it is so complex that searching for it can take more than a whole life. Maybe the answer to this question is living itself.

Glad you enjoyed the video, these videos take a long time to make so it is good to know you are enjoying it. I will definitely look into the person you suggested. Thanks for the comment.

@@dock6386 I understand, I made some similar projects and know how daunting it can get, from editing your draft into a coherent read to compositing the video with suitable visuals and audio. It's sad to see you don't get much traction yet, but it's commendable you keep writing and editing regardless. Best essays come from heart, and your heart clearly has something to say, so best of patience, creativity and luck to you Dock.
