Hey that is super fun! Most of time I dont do that though because shooting from a kayak is very different than in the blind and it sometimes ruins my performance when get back to the shore. But for coot this is the easiest way :P
It did not look like freshwater?? was it a lake? I have hunted the refuge system and have shot coots. For myself, I used them for dog training aids but there was a fellow that requested coots so I would shoot a few for him. For myself, I prefer ducks that fly. Nice to see how you prepared them.
it's in the bay near alviso. Yea ducks r way better :P Coots, well, not as bad as most of ppl think but u do need to process correctly and carefully to avoid the gamey flavor

Do you need to clean the shots from the meat ?
coot is small and the meat is thin so does not hold a lot of shots, even it does, the shots drop off when u clean them.
