I think I'm in love with this car. I've always loved the Gallardo, but the fact that it's one of the last supercars ever with a manual transmission makes it even better. I don't think my life will be complete until I drive one of these. I love it.
He was spot on by saying it's is a supercar bargain then. 10 years later as of today in 2023, an LP generation Gallardo w/ a manual gearbox would cost at least a quarter of million dollars.
This episode was unbelievably good, I like the fact that you make your watchers sensitive to the problem, that the future should preserve the combination of RWD + open manual gearbox + combustion engine
Its sad that the Classic Stick is getting switched for paddles. Knowing to drive something with a manual gearbox is a great feeling aside from actually driving something with a manual gearbox.
i must of watched this video hundreds of times and keep coming to watch it again and again,JETHRO use to give great reviews and the car manual gear is amazing
most people would say that u cant compare these cars, but IMO u can..u buy such a car for one thing: fun! and i am not saying the GTR is no fun, its just that it is too much..these "supercars" nowadays are waay too overloaded with electronics..the GTR is leader is this class...yes yes even with all those electronics the car still feel very "analog", but the problem is knowing that everything ur doing is not u as a good driver, but computers..the BRZ/FRS is pure, simple, analog..great! i love it!
Thumbs up young 'un! Didn't know how to drive a manual when i bought my first car, but that didn't stop me from purchasing a M/T equipped vehicle. And that's all i've owned since. Haven't regretted it for a moment.
there will never be anything more satisfying than executing a perfectly rev matched heel toe downshift right before a turn, clipping the apex and accelerating out in the right gear.
One of the best videos ever, just watched it for a second time right after the first. If the manual is to be sent off, you sent her off with a bang and did her proud!
This videa was made on November 28, 2012. Its now almost 2018 and manuals are getting more and more rare. The C7 Corvette and some Porsches are the only big time manuals left. Very sad to see the Titans of the road die.
Best Video Ever Just can't stop watching it Growing really hard on me this Gallardo... Only thing different would be adding some silver Cordellia wheels and a bit more coloured interior
When you nail that perfect shift and when downshifting while heel and toeing there is something that makes you feel that you played part in driving that car fast. The satisfaction you get is unrivaled by any double clutch gearbox out there. You feel more in control.
So perfect, exactly the way a supercar should be set up. The shifter just looks so right in the cabin too, rather than those 3 buttons that grace the e-gear center console. So much more majestic.
Nothing is more exciting when you win a race with a stick+clutch+onboard camera+night+hard difficulty+all rivals+nordschleife=you feel like a BIG champion Nothing is better than that
This video was perfection. Man being born in 93 i've never had to learn to drive stick and it saddens me. Whenever i buy myself my first new car i'm going to make sure its got a "manual gear box" as the Europeans would say
Lol keep dreaming, it's more likely that cars will be all self driving and most people won't even know how to drive, just like people don't know how to drive stick
I love this car! And I'm so going to miss the good old gated manual gearbox! I'm happy that one of the last incarnations of this had to be in an Italian mid-engined supercar!
Thks Mr Bovingdon ( and team ) ! Great video as usual. It may be the "entry level" Gallardo, but im sure that in 15 years it will be the one that most buyers will want to buy.
..the best thing about Lamborghini is that they don't develop...but they EVOLVE...and even if a model is somehow a decade old (which in supercars term means ancient), somehow it doesn't look like it...that's what make Lamborghini a legend...exclusive...and with this 'old-school-back-to-basic' LP 550-2, it's just getting better..and better...
at 5:29 I really saw myself up and downshifting that machine hardly! oh what a thrill! Nothing like manually shifting and clutching a beautiful sounding v10 italian engine!
The point where I'm not sure if it'll see production is in shift times. There are paddle shift kits for the Tremec T-56, but none of them let you keep the stick. I do think some adaptations can be made though.
If people are buying these exotic cars for the fun factor, then I don't understand why the manual gate shiffting gearbox is falling out of fashion. I think it's a lot "funner" to use a gate shift vs. paddles.
Awesome ! I really like Jethro's reviews. They have something special, just as Chris Harris's ones. They seem to have the same idea of what a supercar should be ! Excellent work, keep going !
I'll have to practice a lot more then lol. When I play GT5 online with my friends, they are like "what's that crunching noise in the back?" I await the day when I'm in front and say i'm using the stick.
It's sad because these cars SHOULD sell well with manual transmissions. I'd guess most people aren't using them to race, so the extra "ticks" don't matter. I think the truth is most people who drive Lambos are after the image and the acceleration and don't give a crap about actual driving dynamics.
Even when I play GranTurismo or NFSShift2 I use the manual+clutch configuration, it does not matter how fast, precise, paddle shifters, 7gears or 8gears the semiautomatic gearboxes are, I love the sensation me doing the shifts on videogames and in real life.
Of course it's all a matter of opinion. I have no problem with a great DSG-type 'box or the single clutch paddle shift of the 430 Scuderia/599 GTO - earlier ones were a bit crappy, though. Still love manuals though and they're lighter than twin-clutch 'boxes. Thanks for the advice.
Another great review Jethro. My 2nd fav presenter in the whole world. This video really makes me want to drive this car, and I have to agree, if I was in the market for a supercar, why not get this?
I dont care what they say about automated manuals... just look at how cool this gear knob looks inside this gallardo! There is NOTHING like the traditional manual gearbox
RWD + manual is what i need to change my dream car from 458 to this gallardo ..that V10 music...
dodge viper why would manuals suck in any car? I think it's your logic that sucks. Also '69 Boss 302 ftw.
dodge viper better than what?
Manual should always remain at least as an option. Keep cars true!
that's why Porsche is amazing. they still offer manuals for the reason that they know ppl still want them.
I thought every Gallardo version has a manual version.
@@drepop803 Exactly. Just look at the 981 Cayman GT4 - the manual version sold out more than PDK. That pretty much says it all.
I'm more than happy to have a Gallardo 550-2 in Spyder form with manual gearbox. That is my perfect combo.
I think I'm in love with this car. I've always loved the Gallardo, but the fact that it's one of the last supercars ever with a manual transmission makes it even better. I don't think my life will be complete until I drive one of these. I love it.

I just LOVE the sound of that shifter! It's like a well oiled gun or an expensive lock. Very nice!
I would do anything to drive that Lambo with the manual box. If I was rich bastard I would always go for manual supercars.
+adnanalagic Me too. A manual R8, manual Gallardo, manual F430. But what I really want is a manual 599. Those things costs as much as the GTOs!
Its sad that the Classic Stick is getting switched for paddles. Knowing to drive something with a manual gearbox is a great feeling aside from actually driving something with a manual gearbox.
I love the quality and professionalism of the C & D Abroad videos, keep 'em coming.
The 550-2 w/manual is one of the greatest cars Lamborghini has ever made!
agreed!
i must of watched this video hundreds of times and keep coming to watch it again and again,JETHRO use to give great reviews and the car manual gear is amazing
This is the coolest camera angle I have seen in a car video 5:27!
This car's manual box may give such a great mechanical feel.
most people would say that u cant compare these cars, but IMO u can..u buy such a car for one thing: fun! and i am not saying the GTR is no fun, its just that it is too much..these "supercars" nowadays are waay too overloaded with electronics..the GTR is leader is this class...yes yes even with all those electronics the car still feel very "analog", but the problem is knowing that everything ur doing is not u as a good driver, but computers..the BRZ/FRS is pure, simple, analog..great! i love it!

Absolutely great video. Jethro Bovingdon is an under-rated auto journo who deserves far more recognition.
Well done. Old school beast.
One of the best videos ever, just watched it for a second time right after the first. If the manual is to be sent off, you sent her off with a bang and did her proud!
Smokey and the bandit,And Jethro you are among the last few old school proper reviewers, thanks mate, keep up the good work!
Hope manual would never die!!!

that gated manual...oh man I need so bad
One of the best car review ive ever seen !

dont see a drifting gallardo often, looks really mega :x especially with that noise.. after all the years i still love it
So perfect, exactly the way a supercar should be set up. The shifter just looks so right in the cabin too, rather than those 3 buttons that grace the e-gear center console. So much more majestic.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a great Episode! You´re really true Petrolheads!
One of the best videos I've seen in weeks. Lovely. Three pedals or walk.
Nothing is more exciting when you win a race with a stick+clutch+onboard camera+night+hard difficulty+all rivals+nordschleife=you feel like a BIG champion

sounds like an old school bolt action rifle. love it
I like cars with good chassis, naturally aspirated engines, manual gearboxes, and L-S diff
After this video, I believe that manuals won't be out of fashion in following years! Great review!!!
Send this video to the heads at Ferrari and Lamborghini WE WANT MANUAL GEAR BOXES
The auto-mated manual will soon be an outdated version of itself. I hope to see manuals returning when that time comes.
That wont be until 20-30 years down the road........
I want this car in black . . . Maybe with a soft or targa top for the ultimate driving experience
Very good
I watch with a warm heart, and a tear in my eye...we need driving to come back to the drivers...
This is exactly why Corvette and 911 will always be in my heart, they stick with the real gearboxes.
I like how he keeps calling this $194,000 car a "basic car." If he thinks a Lamborghini is basic, he should see my Chevy Aveo...
I love your car driver abroad series. Keep them coming.
Dream Job!!!
Able to spread knowledge about Supercars and drift hilly roads in Italy... Cheers!
I love sound of the shifter going thru the metal shiftgates. Great review.
The main reason I love this channel is the interaction lol
Thks Mr Bovingdon ( and team ) ! Great video as usual.
It may be the "entry level" Gallardo, but im sure that in 15 years it will be the one that most buyers will want to buy.
It's not about the speed of gear switching. It's about the feeling when you switch.
Manual transmission may be dying, but that kind of transmission is more efficient than the automatic transmission.
Another great video from Jethro, i really like your work !
Good comprehensive review. Well done mate.
how can people call themselves car enthusiasts and not like manual transmission?
good work, this show is on the rise
Manuals better not be all gone before i get to use one!!! great video!
That lovely gear shifting sound... drool
the sound of that shifter is intoxicating

fantastic review as always with this guy
thank you car and driver for catering to us few diehards who prefer to row our own. god bless all the true oet
Really great review, Jethro is emerging as one of my favourite motoring critics along with Chris Harris. Nice job!
at 5:29 I really saw myself up and downshifting that machine hardly! oh what a thrill!

i wish i had the money to buy this from day 1
This video was so enjoyable until the end when I wanted to cry.
nice drifting skills and a great video!
Fantastic review! Great reviewer, great car with great gear box, great place, great video!
One of the greatest, coming from an R8 owner. 3 pedal symphony.
The point where I'm not sure if it'll see production is in shift times. There are paddle shift kits for the Tremec T-56, but none of them let you keep the stick. I do think some adaptations can be made though.
shifting manually is the true automotive racing tradition...
Do they make any super cars now with manual? If not that's messed up my life goals
Aston Martin still makes them...
Aston Martin doesn't make Super Cars.
+Dédé LABINOUZE No, the One-77 is a minivan.
Adeel A. Ahmad
The One-77 is a GT. It's in the same category as the F12 if you will. Get over it.
pagani did. Now not.
I guess that's why it's called 'Car & Driver'. I agree on the epic!
It's sad that Lamborghini is not going to put a manual gearbox in the Gallardo successor. R.I.P manual's
The sound when you change gears with that metal to metal contact sounds like a high end rifle bolt being cycled!
after this video, I searched 2013 gallardo lp550-2 and none of them had a manual gated gearbox .....
satshree shrestha search lp 550 manual
Another great show Jethro...

SAVE THE MANUALS!
also, this was the first review ive seen from CnD in a long time that I really enjoyed.
LP550-2 + Stelvio pass = heaven
this is what a review for super car should be looked like!!...(excuse me for my english).
I agree that there is nothing like a double clutch gear box but there is also nothing like the fun a 6 speed manual offers. Both have their place.
This looks like the most fun you could have in a car.
I only drive a ford ranger, but shifting a Manuel is priceless. A good downshift, good times, good times
Good video! Nice handling Jethro!
