    That's a very informative video to get started. Your channel is amazing and I'm seeing the comments, you're answering every relevant and tactic question, that's incredible. These days I'm working on front end (static websites - portfolios) development for local clients and also learning react. I got this video at the right time as I was confused whether to go learning advanced web development skills or start earning from what. Thanks for explaining to put your feet on shopify platform. Keep producing such kind of quality stuff.

      Depends on how you define mastery. Both are pretty simple once you get the hang of them. After a while, it becomes a matter of making the best choices with HTML and CSS because there is no set way of doing things for every use case. The best way to test yourself is to set a goal, start working on it, and then notice how long it takes you to complete it. You will learn over time and get better.

    Very interesting. Question, what level of CSS and JavaScript is required to become a Shopify platform Developer? At the moment picked up PHP very quickly and learning OOP with PHP. I know how to create a basic website. Using tools like flexbox, position, basic JavaScript events and hover state. BUT I don't know how to create a web app like a CRUD app, haven't reached that level yet. Learning PHP for backend services at the moment. Would this be enough for someone to get started? Or are more skills required? I am aware of Shopify Liquid I think I am capable of learning this quickly, but I haven't reviewed the other tools for Shopify yet, so I don't know what is required, thank you for the video.

    Hi Chris, I love your teaching style. I'm confused, I wanted to build a Shopify theme from scratch and was pointed in the direction of Slate, then was told Slate is now deprecated. I understand that Slate is a collection of tools which uses a template called Starter Theme but that looks like it's been abandoned too. Anyway I came to the conclusion that I should just start off with the Debut theme and remove all the css I don't want etc, I feel dirty doing that, but I don't want to use something that's not going to be supported. What do you think Chris, is hacking away at Debut the gateway drug into custom theme development on Shopify? Shopify seam to be silent on this and while I love the platform their documentation wasn't very helpful, I want them to break down and show the specific templates files needed to make up a theme - I'm hoping they're going to stun us all by releasing some new shiny local dev workflow type situation. Any insight you can share on this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you man!

    • @CodewithChristheFreelancer
      @CodewithChristheFreelancer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Michael. I think you're on the right track with editing Debut. Almost every client I've worked with has started with an exisiting theme and modified it. Usually it's a premium theme but Debut is just fine as well.
      Slate I find is only used on older projects nowadays.

    Hey Chris great video, very informative for someone looking to develop those skills. I was wondering if you knew anything about how to speed up page loading time which is often a big issue with shopify. No video seem to say anything except the usual, reduce file size etc..., while I read that it was possible to do it by limiting the apps loading each time a page loads, and working of the javascript kernel. Would you know anything else about this topic by any chance? That could be a great video topic btw :) thanks again.

    • @CodewithChristheFreelancer
      @CodewithChristheFreelancer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jo! Thanks for the topic idea. Page speed is all about efficiency. The fastest loading website is one with virtually nothing on it. As you start to add content and features to your site however, that's when it starts to get slower. It's inevitable but there are things you can do to manage the impact. One thing you can do is run your site through a page speed diagnostics tool and see if you spot any easy wins. That's what I would do first.
