Thank you... Spent a couple of hours trying to wrap my head around getting this plugin to work...should have watched your video first and saved some time.
Hi friend! Excellent video. Do you know how to modify the "in trajectory" and "out trajectory" parameters so that the cutter advances inside or outside the line? By default both say "(None)". Thank you!
I found that when using gcodetools like this, the "runs in reverse first" and when I was using it "why did it cut twice" is answered by the fact that the cut line has thickness, and it created a toolpath for inside and outside. Try making a solid shape, and running gcodetools on it to see (perhaps?) different results.
Nice video mate, got a lot out of that, thanks for posting! Any chance in the future you might do one on pocket milling around the outside of a (relatively) complex shape (like a logo or something)? I've been trying but keep running into problems with overlap going into regions i don't want to cut etc. I'll figure it eventually, but would love to see how you do it, this one made things so simple! Thanks again mate, nice work :)
Hard to say if I'll get a chance to revisit this particular tool. Right now I'm working out some intro-level Fusion360 content, but I'll keep this in mind.
hi, thanks for your video, your tutorial has helped me as well I'm sure many others. I have been planning on building cnc machine for some time and I am sure this grounding will very much assist me. many thanks for your time and effort.
Why does the code repeat? It seems to be related to the orientation points Z depth. if set to -10.000 the code repeats 10 times in the CNC file. Set to -1.0 repeats 2 times.
Nice vid. Thx But why is it that when i save my drawings as Gcode in Inkscape, all the X coordinates have a " - " after the X ? Example: G1 X-68.10 Y47.58 F3500.00.........X-68 !!! If i remove ALL the " - " everywhere in all the command lines....all plots ok. If i dont remove them...all i get is mostly a straight line !!!!
i'm just starting with inkscape,i need to convert images to gcode,i keep getting an error message string when i try to run gcode in grbl controller using the makerbot unicom gcode extension,so i found the gcode tools thing, when i open inkscape i do not get the gcode tools drop down you get, mine has no drop down arrow/pointer as does the "colour" drop down list. I honestly could not follow you in the cnc-club.ru,the text on screen (yours) is too small, and you blasted through it,the only thread i could see was one hanging off my tee shirt,i wish i could have followed your cursor,i might then have had achance to see what was being sellected. What was the green arrow used to sellect the gcode tools,i have not got this when i get to cnc-club.ru. Good vid but i just could not keep up with it,ok it wasn't a tutorial and i'm a total green horn with inkscape, there just seems to be too many off points between my sellectable gcode tools and what you have,i may have to uninstall inkscape and start fresh, plus i had to install an earlier version to use the makerbot unicom gcode extension, which i think is not what i need, but the gcode tools IS whats needed. cheers.
Hey Winston, You should check out SketchUCAM: sketchucam.jimdo.com/gallery/videos/ It's an open source SketchUp extension. Looks like a good free option.
I found this author's reference regarding Area option. www.cnc-club.ru/forum/download/file.php?id=1403&mode=view&mt=1 't ain't he'pin' me, but maybe you can grok it.

Very useful! Thank you! If you were to redo the video entirely, what would you change?

Can I use GRBL as my milling is Arduinio based with c n c shield
This Gcode extension work wich virsion inkscape.....????
Thanks for this video. I didn't understand how it saved the code, I was trying to "save as" a gcode, which didn't appear. Now I understand, Thanks.

The number of repeated layers should be roughly proportional to the depth you want to cut, since you want to remove material at a safe rate.

Does it have an Lathe option?

when I try to save the file into the extensions folder it just hangs at 99%
That is quite odd. Have you tried moving them over a few at a time? Is there a particular file that's causing problems?
I unzip them highlight and try to add them to the extensions folders they all unzip properly they just hang at 99%
Mike King Even if you only try to move just one of the files?
Slow down a Little on clicks and zoom in a bit so we can see what your clicking tks
Nice
