An easier and cheaper way is to just remove the buttons by simply pushing them out, you can do that on any pen too. Then you fill the hole with whatever you want: silicone, hot glue, clay. Then you wrap the pen in tennis grip and you won't feel the hole. Or if you don't want to use tennis grip, you make sure the finish on the hole is flush with the pen, which is tricky to achieve but not impossible, I've done it successfuly twice with hot glue, by sanding it down flush
to "sand" hot glue flush use IPA, it will dissolve the glue and rub it with something soft
just remove the buttons and put tape over the hole its not that deep bro
I removed my pen buttons and I actually like feeling the hole because its a flat-ish surface I can rest my index finger on, which helps with stability and I can feel where the right spot is. Grip tape is over the hole btw, I can feel it through the tape.

@@OJX. if you are a sweaty boy eventually the pen stops working at least thats what happened to me. kid you not i have had to buy 3 pens now. i recommend you put one layer of tape and it will still have that groove that feels nice, or just fill it in

honestly you should sell the pens, bcs im guessing they're cheaper than a whole 3d printer, and since most of us dont have one, we'd be more than happy to buy the pen, and you guys could make a profit on it too. it's a win-win
The bamboo pen would have worked with cth-480. I used one when when my old pen broke, and I don't think whitecat uses the eraser.

@Spazza17 You should try soldering a 1.5V button battery to the pen pcb and glue it at the top in place of the eraser. That would increase the pen hover distance. That's because the pen gets power from the tablet, but as you go further away, it gets less and less until it's not enough to transmit a signal strong enough for the tablet to detect. If you provide it with external power, it should always transmit at full power so the hover should increase . If you're interested lmk, I did some research on it already.
I heavily doubt this is how it works, but hey, I'm not the one who's opening up their tablet pen in the process. Wacom pens work with magnetic fields instead of battery power, and I heavily doubt running a charge through a batteryless tablet pen is a good idea.
@@notTerabyte I heavily doubt you know what you're talking about, pls inform yourself first. The tablet, for a really small time, emits a changing magnetic field which by induction, charges a capacitor in the pen. Then, for a moment, the tablet goes into "listen mode", which means it doesn't emit a field anymore but instead it listens for changes in the field by the pen thus detecting the pen position. The pen uses the previously stored energy to emit the field. The tablet switches betweem these 2 modes really fast. The pen continusly charges and discharges. By connecting a battery, you make sure it's always charged and it always can emit it's field at the max power
@@notTerabyte exactly, wacom pens don't use battery power, they constantly collect power from the tablet through the field, then use that power to emit their own field. Batteryless doesn't mean passive pen, wacom pens clearly use power, you can consider the capacitor as the pen "battery". The idea is to simply improve where they get the power from

You know the PCB has copper "wires", chips? guess what runs through those? Exactly the charge you heavily doubt. Again, batteryless doesn't the board isn't powered, it just means it doesn't get power from a battery, that doesn't mean you can't give it power from a battery, it doesn't care where the electrons come from you know?
hey, all i can say is, i didn't do the research, all i know was i posted my own comment at 2am without any thought. sounds like an interesting idea at the end of the day but just soldering in a triple a doesnt sound effective

I just disabled the buttons inputs in my Wacom tablets settings, and wrapped a tennis grip all around the pen, 👍

i made the pen, very pen. 0.12mm layer height on fdm printer with petg filament (printed horizontally with brim)
i used adjustable pliers to open and destroy the wacom pen (very epic)
I had a working prototype a few months back, only problem was that I accidentally broke the coil on the pen so it was completely fucked

here is the thing about pen buttons, I'm a digital artist, I never use them ever, matter of fact, I acidentally press them and sometimes its infuriating
