Normal means "normal functioning" of the personality (as in being able to understand the difference between reality and phantasy, being able to relate to people in a beneficial way (whatever that means for you!) and so on).
By "normal" he means being healthy and comfortable in your own self. That is usually the goal of people who seek treatment because they suffer under their disorders and wish to lead a happier life. "Normal" does not mean "normalized" - that would be sick, something that kernberg would surely agree with.
Far from what Kernberg would agree, the normalized world is not the normal that TFT would aim at. Rather it is what the existentialists call authenticity. Patients with NPD and borderline yearn so much for this. Being authentic.
This is so exciting. As a therapist, I would like to learn more about this and get a directory of TFP therapists. Thank you.
Kernberg stays winning
More great content from DR. O.K. 🙂
i had TFP and it achived that i deeply hate that therpist for the rest of my life and i also now think all therapists are quacks.
see I love this
What if I don’t want to be normal? Normal is boring.

You don't want to be normal. In this case, it's normal.
stop judging yourself.
Imagine a world where everyone is “normalized” like this guy. 😑
