I attend TFP through a university. My therapist is a grad student. I couldn’t find anyone who did DBT locally so I drove an hour to get evaluated by the university and they actually ended up diagnosing me with BPD and treating me with TFP. You can also try online at universities with good psych programs in your state (assuming you’re in the USA).
It sure does happen out of therapy, all this transference? What do you do when you notice you‘re being projected on? It feels painful… And how do you notice when it happens that you‘re the one projecting?
@@AlexSwan i guess so... this month i had for the first time a very aware experiences of projection, from a flatmate with ocd (amongst other things i strongly believe). i very clearly saw her trauma speaking, there was no connection to the actual and practical things happening in the moment. it was like a trance, mind bending - i am glad that i recorded and screenshot these conversations to reality check later. it was interesting to see how she told me a lot of things about herself in this trance that she saw in me... also it was physiologically super activating for me since i have my own psychological blind spots and problems. i was kind of glad she threw me out ... only to want me back 3 days after I moved out because i was the "best flatmate ever" and she even said she would do the whole move and I need to do nothing... oh well. I hope she heals. it's too painful to be in such a dynamic.
Always with the theories. As a person harmed by therapy I can’t understand why the field avoids almost any reference to risks and harm. What happens is not always about any relationship with the therapist. It can sometimes be a fundamental problem with the smoke and mirrors, the contempt for any questions. I read about “inducing transference” and wonder, why would someone trust people who play such games?
I can barely find anyone near me who legitimately has experience with DBT, *let alone* trying to find someone who even knows what this is!

It takes a very well integrated and aware therapist. Otherwise games will get played and things get messy very quickly.
