Thanks for sharing your experience. I have the same watch and just ordered the same strap that you have from Bark and Jack. Shipping was expensive from the UK so I went ahead and bought two to try and offset the price. Mine is a 1995 that was serviced in 2000. It ended up with the rare SWISS only service dial and newer movement.
Matt pal I am the guy that bought one of those babies albeit 3185-black dial (2006 model) in the same grey dealer you did but 1 year prior (March 2019) and I'm loving it every step of the way, however If am not mistaken in my case the piece was serviced and inspected prior to the purchase and since I just wear it sparingly (1 weekend each month) I dont expect to service it at least in the next 5 years. The cost of your overhaul scared me, I am here in Miami which is a major watch hotspot and so I have plenty of good watchmakers to choose from and I think I can get it serviced in the neighborhood of $500, but as per your video it looks it was 100% professionally done and you got the service card and a spec running piece which as you said gives you piece of mind, congrats.
Awesome! Lol, kind of weird to see myself! Oh man, like the footage at 1:26. Speaking of not polishing - or trying not to! - there was a post on the Rolex Forum a few days ago. A guy took his Rolex to RSC in London for a service. He asked them not to polish it, but they did anyway. They forgot NOT to...or something. Oh, and it was a Kermit!
I tried on that exact same Rolex when Austin was here, it was nice to wear a Rolex for a day but I wasn't convinced. Still it is a great piece and so good you had it serviced! Now it's ready to Rock for at least the next decade! wear in good health mate. Cheers!
I recently serviced my 2004 16570. It has been three days since I set it, and it is less than one second fast. I hope the time keeping holds. I am very impressed.
Great video Matt, I tried on an explorer 2 at a watch meet up in Dublin and was amazed at how much I liked it. Always thought I was a explorer 1 man, and probably still am tbh. I remember though that the case was so polished that the spring bars protruded out through the drilled lugs. You are 100% right to go for an unpolished watch. Thanks for all the support by the way. Great video.
Good info to keep in mind- how much and what they found. Seems like you did the right thing servicing. You’re right, Rolex is a great store of value, just like gold
Great watch but I think over time you might be more open to wearing it. It's a sports watch and you'll bond with it a lot more by putting it to use. I'm not saying to abuse it but it can handle a few adventures. I have a 16710 and I can agree that those old 5 digit Rolex models feel amazing on the wrist. They don't have the solid feeling of the modern models but they are certainly more comfortable and the case shape is just so much better.
Looks great on nato, nice colour as well. That's pretty fast turnaround time! Does the tube get worn out due to people not handling the stem correctly, like pulling at off angles?
Ten years of winding, opening and closing, etc. will do that. The crown and tube are like the tires on your car. The parts that gets the most wear and needs replacing upon service.
Beautiful watch my friend I am also looking to add one to my collection. I wast thinking the same a little late with the higher prices but if you love it and keep it then it don’t matter you will get years and years of enjoyment.
Thanks. I am relieved to see prices actually went up after the slight dip and are a bit higher than when I bought. It does seem that the market is moving towards Rolex each and every day, with no end in sight. I believe it is a permanent shift.
Just look at that Rolex bracelet taper. What's up with these companies that can't seem to grasp this simple ergonomic concept!? Hope to see you enjoying many more happy years of Rolex wearing, Matt.
True, its big money now creating a Rolex collection. Looking forward to more content. Any tie ups with Austin Daniels or other You Tubers in the pipeline? Really enjoyed your last one.
That's a great watch you got there, I am looking to buy the 42mm explorer II with the orange GMT hand polar dial of course, not really interested in black dial, tempted to buy one on finance. Maybe I should consider the 40mm considering my tiny wrists, but I have to say the newer 42mm does appeal to me more.
Stunning piece and great video. But, at first you said that you purchased an unworn watch, then you take it to service and they say that so many things are badly worn... sounds to me as if the watch was absolutely not unworn but worn pretty often... also, I don't see any of the original chamfering on the lugs... I'd be very worried to get those papers from the watchmaker knowing that I bought an "unworn" watch. cheers!
What? I said unpolished. It was purchased as never before "serviced." An "unworn" Rolex Explorer II Cal. 3186 with box/papers would command 15 grand! Furthermore, the watchmaker who serviced the movement told me he believes the watch arrived to me as described: Never serviced or polished. He agreed that I should leave it and the bracelet alone. Also, the description of what was worn in the movement is completely normal for a decade old watch. Do tires on a car wear out? Brakes? Of course. And they need to be replaced. Normal stuff.
The only way to get an idea is to look at Chrono24 for examples like you describe. See the average price being asked. Minus 10% and that is the right price.
I had saved the "Broken heart Omega" video to watch later. When I went to it last night it had been 'removed by uploader'. Very disappointed. What's up Matt?
Brendan Fisher some people were calling me a bit of a crybaby for posting it, which of course I wasn’t. Kind of ridiculous. But I figured just take it down because I don’t like dealing with trolls. I’ll post another video today or tomorrow talking about Rolex and I will go into what happened.
@@ItsTimePictures I didn't know that! I quite enjoy the Bark & Jack channel and I think the main man Adrian seems like a nice guy! Their products do look to be a bit pricey (probably out of my price range), but they look like quality, premium products. There is too much snobbery in the online Watch Community! Thanks for another enjoyable video Matt 👍🏼
I don't understand why too, I like Adrian and his channel - although B&J straps are a bit pricey they look very good and are of high quality, I've been meaning to get a white B&J nato stap for white dial Grand Seiko day date.
Mat...i saw you in Clyves Livestream while , DON!!!!!!!, was having a night with pudding........the writing screenplay rules , for Netflix or whoever, is it as bad as the Mcarthy days???? hope i’m not unintellig
That’s a great insight into the merits of servicing your watch. Glad you’re back on the radar! Thanks for sharing.

Great to see you back Matt. Good luck with the new project. Explorer looks good on that strap!

Great video Matt. Congrats on the Polar Explorer 2. Sounds like you love that 16570 as much as I love my 216570. Enjoy it.

Agreed can’t go wrong buying rolex
SEL with holes case- that's the sweet spot, believe you me! classic styling and proportions with modern feel and convenience.
A holes case sure does make it easier to swap bracelets/straps.

Matt, glad to see you’re doing well all considering. Will you be selling the Seamaster now?
I have two Omegas. Likely not selling the SM300 Pro. 100% never selling the Pre-Bond.
Stunning watch. But i have to say, i love your blue Seamaster as well. Great pieces
great channel
Matt, always knew there was a Rolex guy just waiting to bust out! Great pieces the Exp2 and Omega my friend.😀👍
Thank you. But i think a Rolex is anyone's future if enough money is deposited into their bank account. ;-)

Beautiful watch Matt!! Maybe if you hang around Austin more you’ll want to buy a Tudor hydronaut?! Great video btw best regards
lol, Never.
Did you know that there are a few 16570 non-rehaut that has 3186 in them? Those are the rare transitional model, I've heard. 😊

Wear both sizes. Try them on if you can. You might be surprised which you prefer.
@@ItsTimePictures Thanks will do 👍
Austin’s enthusiasm for Rolex is definitely contagious. I have this watch too and I love it. So was that place an AD?
You're a stickler. I like it.
You didn't go to RSC but got Rolex service papers??
They are officially RSC. It's why I chose them.
@@ItsTimePictures didn;t know that. I'd do that

@@ItsTimePictures You do say "unworn" at 2:38 so I guess you misspoke. Whatever happened to the white dial Seiko quartz chrono?
Beautiful 🌈
did u polish the explore too?
No. I did not. It’s unpolished and I wanted to keep it that way. Once it is polished that first time, that’s it. There is no going back.
who did you send it to in NC?
Jared's in the Cary area. I forget the exact location, but you can easily find them via Google.
Great update Matt. I had one then sold it - regret it daily. Enjoy it mate
hi can someone suggest me how much I should pay for one similar piece without box and paper. Un serviced , unpolished . Pls help guys .

If I go to the beach play volley-ball I just wear no watch!! that's called watch respect :)
GShock :)
@@ItsTimePictures sorry did I misunderstand?
Needs to go back on the bracelet, NATO’s cheapen the look
My watch. My decision. It was made for comfort and ease of wear while I am doing so much desk work.
Lol, I actually quite like the Polar on a variety of straps and Natos. Looks really good.

Why will the Bark & Jack NATO strap make some peoples' heads explode?!
For whatever reason some people just don’t like them. Don’t like the man. I think that’s all silly 😎
