      Commenting here on the off chance that you see this. Someone in the comment section mentioned that you have the "CC" subtitles on and that may have added to the confusion.
      I think you guys are much farther ahead already, and hopefully, this isn't too late... For Season 1.
      Love the reactions, super excited to re-live/love this amazing show through your reactions.

      Hey fellas just a tip cause idk how far ahead u are or if anyone has suggested this, but switch ur subtitles to English & not English (cc). I've heard several folks fluent in the language say u get a more accurate translation cause they've noticed discrepancies. Also, Oak I believe u are correct w this game & I do think the subtitles were lil confusing. So glad yall are watching this crazy, fun, engrossing show! It's so good!! This moment blew my mind too losing 3 characters in one moment, but wow does this show cont to be amazing!! Fyi, I think imo that all the tools in the beginning were not for the game & were in fact if they work together to take the headsets off. Why else so many screwdrivers & clamps! Excited for the journey fellas!! Hope u all had a wonderful Christmas w ur fam & friends!!❤💞❤️

    no oak is right about the rule of lambs hiding.. the rule seemed confusing at the beginning but in the end, the rules were right. The lambs hid but not "from" the wolf but "for" the wolf. The games are just too brilliant. They knew the survivors guilt amongst friends would be too much too handle for them in the end

    This episode shocked the hell out of me. The whole time I was convinced Arisu would somehow think their way out of the game and find a loophole, because how can 3/4 of our main character group die in the third episode? Did not see it coming. Then I wondered how on Earth they could make the rest of the show work without all our characters, but let me tell you this is just the start.

    "Hide sheep so the wolf won't find you." Remember Arisu and Karube were told previously that hearts games were about *betrayal* so the whole team went in with that in mind. But the game was never actually about that, hearts are purely *psychological* games. They, and the audience, misread the instructions/think they don't make sense and jump to the wrong conclusion. The game, from the very beginning, was about sacrifice- the sheep hiding would only ever come about in the circumstance of them choosing the wolf to live and it knew that.
    *Also the tools at the start were another ploy to make them think the wrong thing, the previous games have naturally made them jump to violence first. But it's more likely that the tools really were there to take the headsets off and if they had worked together they'd have been able to figure it out- don't forget Chota was good with electronics too. The fact that the game makes a point to say they can use the tools, and never specifies that they can't fiddle with the headsets makes me feel there was another way, which only adds to the heartbreak. Arisu was probably on the right track, but he was struggling to cut it himself- the device is probably purpose built to be removed by someone else if the team works together.

      @@utkarshsharma2433 yeah definitely risky to try things with the collars, but spoilers below:
      There's a game in season 2 that also doesn't explicitly say that you can't remove a device (armband)- and they end up removing one in order to win. Whilst other games specify removing it means death. The games are always very clear about the rules, this is why I think there was a chance these ones could have been removed as they didn't specify they couldn't.

      As a translator, there's a HUGE difference between the translation and closed captions, that being the emphasis on description of sounds for closed captions. For CC you need to sacrifice even more words to fit in the 6 second rule for those reading. So yeah, I'm hoping they switch to the translated subtitles only soon!

    • @dsimi415
      @dsimi415 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@KWExploretheworld The closed captions are the subtitles for the English dub. I watched all of Squid Game and didn't think anything was wrong with the subtitles because I don't know any Korean. But I know a few phrases in Japanese so I noticed it with Alice in Borderland when they'd say something that I understood but it wasn't what the subtitles said. I switched it to dub to test it and the subtitles said exactly what I was hearing

    • @KWExploretheworld
      @KWExploretheworld 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dsimi415 Japanese speaks very fast, which sometimes is too fast for English speakers. For dubs, they have to change the original conversation so as to fit in the English conversation within a few seconds. Turns out they couldn’t use literal translation as that wouldn’t fit in the limited time. So they’ve changed the whole phrase/sentence/expression for the dubs with cc. Dubs are so bad that it’s like they’ve written a whole different scripts for the show, changing or even twisting the original meaning in Japanese. The English subtitles are definitely more accurate.

    • @dsimi415
      @dsimi415 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@KWExploretheworld Oh no, don't get me wrong. I was just saying that's why the CC is so off because it's the subtitles for the English version and not a translation of the Japanese. I wasn't trying to say to watch with CC and I most certainly wasn't trying to imply the dub is better or even good. I didn't know at the time if that's what the CC actually was, it was just a theory in my head so I first switched between the CC and the English subs and noticed they said different things so then I turned on the CC and switched it to dub literally just to check. Once I confirmed it, I switched it straight back to Japanese and put on the actual translation

      Heart games makes you forget how to solve a game logically. These psychological effects with „only one person can live“,these weapons on the table, how the question was interpreted, the 15min timer etc.
      Everything was made like this to make it seems twisted and blind you from solving this puzzle…. Truly a heart game lol

  • @NotAlejoZen
    @NotAlejoZen 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +106

    In the manga, 7 of Hearts plays almost the same way with two key differences.
    The first one being the climax. When Arisu announces he'll withdrawn from the game, he stays at the entrance to give the wolf to whoever wishes to get it. Both Karube and Chota firmly declare they're not going. Shibuki quickly rushes toward him, but then abruptly stops. After witnessing their selflessness even in a moment of desperation, she shows the courage to make the sacrifice, choosing to hide once again. It's only when there are a couple of minutes left that Arisu goes to look for everyone, panicking and begging them to come out. In the end, all three thank him for everything, asking him to carry on for them before dying.
    The second one, 7 of Hearts is one of the two games we witness to have an additional reward besides the Visa days. In this case, it was a cooked piece of mutten for the winner. This, of course, has two different interpretations, and for Arisu, it was a way of mocking him for having lost his friends by rubbing more salt on the wound. Because of this, he ends up burning the entire place down in a rage and falls on the streets, succumbing to a huge depression.
    ---
    Heart games are psychological games, having the purpose of testing players' resolve, beliefs, and desire to live. However, because they often tend to show someone's true colors, they gained the infamous reputation of "games where you play with others' hearts", manipulation and betrayal. This created a negative effect on players, because now instead of calmly thinking of a solution that could benefit everyone, they're all just fighting for themselves.
    The meaning of the rules can change depending on the way the players choose to tackle the game, so I don't think any of them were wrong for thinking the wolf had to kill the sheeps, that was just another way to go about it if any of them were to let their desperation for survival consume them, because at the end of the day, none of them were punished for attacking themselves, if you pay attention. That's why I said the piece of mutten has two different interpretations, the other one being, you're just a hungry wolf killing for their own survival.
    7 of Hearts is one of the most debated games in the community, because to this day there hasn't been a single fool-proof way of beating it without losing any players. The most reasonable theory revolves around the sheep cutting the wolf's collar to disable it using the tools given to them at the entrance. The collar wouldn't explode, because the wolf isn't at risk of dying. Once that's done, they would pass the wolf to a sheep and repeat the process, leaving the last player to keep the wolf and just wait for the game to end. This could also be hinted at the start, where the sheep are drawn behind the wolf, suggesting them to dismantle the collar, not to actually hide from them.
    This game is the reason why I said I don't like the adaptation antagonizing Shibuki. In the show, Chota basically forces her to accept her death, as they clearly show her struggling to get away, contrary to the source material, where she willfully accepts to let Arisu be the one to survive, showing not only her growth, but that she genuinely cared for the three of them in what little time they shared together.
    However, I very much enjoy the inclusion of Arisu reminiscing on the good times he had with his friends and how much they mean to him in the show, since we don't have his internal monologues and flashbacks to put those pieces together. The pain of losing the only people that kept him anchored to the world is extremely heartbreaking, and it doesn't matter whether manga or live action, 7 of Hearts never fails to make me cry.

    Explaining the rules of the game:
    Initially, the instructions say that the lamb must hide from the wolf, and the wolf must find a lamb to become a lamb, but then the instructions say that the lambs that remain in the end will lose the game, making the idea of “hide and seek” inverted. However, this is a hearts game, so the rules were made so that the people who are playing the game choose to sacrifice themselves. At the end, as in the instructions, the wolf (arisu) was looking for the lambs to give his life to them, but they were hidden. Basically, the rules were made for the survivor to feel guilty for the death of others.

    from a reddit post: "I think the idea of this game is that your perspective changes as you play it specifically with your friends.
    You start off wanting to be the wolf and survive. But realise that means your friends die and you live.
    As you all play your view on the game shifts, the sheep hide because they want to sacrifice themselves for you, and you hunt as the wolf because you want to do the same for them.
    That’s what makes it a tough hearts game and it’s why they showed it played with friends rather than just a random group where there’s no emotions really involved. It’s also why the area you play in is set up so that it’s so easy to hide."

    24:44 The point of the lambs hiding was to sacrifice themselves for the wolf to survive. As they were all friends Chota and Karube sacrificed themselves so that Arisu could survive. It was a heart game so it was designed that way to play with their relationship.

    Oak is right. That’s how you find the true wolf in sheep’s clothing. There are 2 outcomes of this hearts game:
    If the lambs choose to sacrifice, the wolf lives. (This current outcome, they choose who lives.)
    If they are all strangers or friends who really don’t care about each other, they will kill each other (thus the weapons) so that the last one will survive (that is the true wolf hiding in sheep clothing).
    It’s a game of trying to reveal your true nature. Are you for yourself or for friends?

  • @kurarisusa
    @kurarisusa 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    It's confusing because they purposefully inverted the normal troupe of the game. Usually, the wolf hunts and the lambs hide because the wolf is going to kill the lambs. But in this game the wolf hunts and the lambs hide out of love, to save each to save the other. The lambs had to collectively pick one person they were willing to die for. It's the type of game that only works if you have deep love for the others in your group. Otherwise, it would turn into the lambs hunting to wolf in order to stay alive.

    I thought the same thing about the reflection when I saw Arisu staring at his....but he would have to make simultaneous eye contact with everyone which is impossible IF the game would even allow that :/ I've finished all 2 seasons now, and every single game I tried to out think or find the twist. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't...loved the strategy breakdown at the end, and great reaction guys 🤘

    In a clear cut way of understanding it’s literally just inverted hide and seek where the person who is it “the wolf” hides and if he wins, he survives. However, the line saying if you’re a lamb to stay hidden and don’t let the wolf find you is for those who caught onto the game that in order for the wolf to win, you have to sacrifice yourself = so stay hidden

    @32:00 How i interpreted the game of hearts being convenient for these 4 friends: It was pure chance. The nature of the game of hearts relies on the assumption that most people have morals, so it wouldn't matter if the group who showed up to the 7 of hearts were friends or not, as the winner would have to grapple with the fact that they effectively killed 3 other people to stay alive (hence the table of weapons). That sort of guilt is what makes a game of hearts so trying. The fact that the 4 who did show up were friends made that choice that much more difficult for the winner.

    If you’re not friends. It’s more like the lambs should all be hunting the wolf. Reverse hide and seek/tag.
    However, “hearts” is more of a… it hurts your heart or emotional challenge. So, just like it played out. Everyone is trying to decide if they are the one that deserves to go on. While everyone else thinks it’s the main character. He doesn’t think he’s worthy. So he’s trying to find them.

    It's a game of hearts, everybody wants to live so everybody thinks to become the wolf is the purpose of the game...but the twist of the game is that friends enter the game together and don't realize at first that the goal is not to survive, but rather to save. The wolf survives but the wolf will want to save their friends, while the lambs will die and save the wolf. The game doesn't work as a game of betrayal if four strangers enter, as everybody will seek to be the wolf.
    The game is meant to bring out the true nature of the creatures, while disguising that premise in plain sight. On surface the game appears to be that the lambs hunt the wolf and the wolf hides from the lambs, but in reality the lambs sacrifice themselves to the wolf and the wolf hunts the lambs. Non-destructive members of society will not be able to sacrifice others, because they know that the blood spilled will be on their hands.

    Seven of Hearts' game flips the rules of hide-and-seek, with the wolf hiding from the sheep instead of vice versa. Arisu's moral dilemma arises when he becomes the wolf, and he must choose between survival and the lives of his best friends. Before the game, Airsu was wasting his life away despite being brighter than most people his age. Karube and Chota's sacrifice gives him a strong sense of purpose to reach his full potential

    Watched this episode 3 times before, this is my 4th time with your reaction. Still in pain, still crying. In a way this episode comes out of nowhere and despite understanding the rules I was in a complete denial till the very end. Surely Arisu will find a way out, I thought - because he did so all the times before, right? But no, there was no way out and it was heartbreaking. It only needed 2 episodes to get so attached to these characters and their friendship, only 2 episodes to feel like you are a part of that friendgroup, that the end just hurt as much to the watcher as it did to Arisu.

    My take on "lambs hide well" is to avoid the brutality of having your friend watch your head get blown off. That is what truly ducks with you, what rips your heart out. All of his friends were willing to die for him so they stayed hidden. But to not stay hidden and have your friend actually watch you die is a whole other ball game. That part made me cry when i first watched it.

    NO SPOILERS: I think most people are gonna fully understand your confusion because most of them went through it themselves, but what's fascinating is that the confusion is due to a conflict between subverted expectations of bias, not really because the rules were unclear.
    These games are, in a lot of ways, a test to see how out of the box you can think. The rules weren't misleading at all, actually they were very clear, but previous life experiences with the concept of hide and seek, as well as the concept of wolves and lambs, makes most viewers initially misunderstand the game.
    There are 3 lambs and 1 wolf - in such a scenario, the lambs must hide from the wolf, we all agree. That's the game at the bone. The reason WHY they must hide, however, is the subversion. WE add "they must hide in order to not be killed" because of our bias, but the rule is, the wolf wins, so the only reason the lambs would hide is for the wolf to survive, which is something we get to understand once the characters themselves do and start hiding from Arisu but initially throws us for a loop because "why would lambs wants a wolf to live?"
    It's a hearts game in the sense that it does play with people's hearts, not because the rules are manipulatory. Actually, the reason it works so well is BECAUSE of how clear and uncompromising it is in its rules, therefore letting no room for the players to play outside of the rules, forcing them to make a decision, be it a sacrifice or betrayal. So they get to live with the concequences of those decisions. Feel the grief, the guilt, the pain or the satisfaction, if you're an ahole, while the others feel betrayed.
    I think this game was put at this point in the season for a very good, narratively functional reason (beyond ofc the character building, the angst, the setting of tone): it's meant to strongly push the viewer to look beyond first appearences when approaching a game, dig deeper. We had a bit of that with both the previous games, but it was not enough to make the viewer super suspicious and careful in how they interpret rules. This game however? Turned most of us paranoid haha

  • @muhammadaqil1324
    @muhammadaqil1324 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    What you thought about the rule was correct. The point here is the 7 Hearts' games. The game was in reverse because they were friends and played against each other. So, the dynamic changed at first because they all wanted to survive, but after they changed their mind and decided to let Arisu live, "The lambs had to hide from the wolf." to spare Arisu's. They tell the lamb to hide because, at the end, the lambs must let the wolf win or lives.

That is why is a Hearts game and not a Spades game, because they destroy a friendship and make them do desicions they wish to never do, instead of making the players run for their life to escape the wolf like they had to escape the mask people in the 5 of Spades game.

    The game of hearts is to play with players.... well, hearts.
    In this case the game intentionally picked 4 people with a close bond, of the 4 3 are friends and 2 are lovers.
    The game instructed 3 people to hide, so 1 would live. Basically it's forcing 3 players to sacrifice for 1 of their friends, but it's also intended to turn friends against each other (much like they did at the start) out of fear of dying.
    Come to the end of the game, Chota and Karube wanted Arisu to survive. That's why Chota held down and prevented Shibuki from catching Arisu and apologised at the end.

I read from somewhere it says in the manga they actually had a hard time finding other game arenas and this was the only one they could find/ leading their way to, so definitely a game made for them specifically to challenge or even laugh at their friendship.
