Imogen said: "Today is Earth Day and 2 years ago I performed the first version of Me The Machine written with and for my Mi.Mu gloves. I am dying to let you hear the album but I have to wait, but today I want to let you hear and see the studio version and the additional music video. Hope you really enjoy it! Most of the visuals are being manipulated live using my Mi.Mu gloves as I didn't just want to mime. So I went one step further and worked with the team on getting the gloves ready for visual manipulations."

This represented a significant advancement, but technology and music still have infinite possibilities ahead. And for as long as she lives (which could be forever, provided she digitizes her consciousness sometime in the near future), Imogen Heap will be right there at the cutting edge.

Again and again, I am consistently amazed by this woman's artistry. Her music, through her lyrics, the imagery and visual aspects of her videos and performances, and it's overall atheistic value, embodies a sense of wonder greater than anything I have yet witnessed. Her music - and I don't think I am alone in feeling this way - has truly changed my life in more ways than one. As a musician myself, I can only hope that one day I can embody even a fraction of Imogen's ability. Amazing.

"I can't do everything but ill get over it.. I dont want to be everything I just want to feel a part of it"
This part resonates with me the most because I have a son on the spectrum with many comorbitities who spent the first 6 years of his life non verbal unable to make intimate connections with anyone except for me, his only constant. This song helped me try to see and understand his world.

Also recently learned I was on the spectrum. I really relate to Immi and think many of us would 💕

    • @thefloop2813
      @thefloop2813 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Im on the spectrum myself, and had i not made certain musical connections with instruments and my own musicality early on i would probably still suffer through incredibly inadequate communication. i still struggle in spoken word directly to people to actually communicate what i intend to get across, but with a keyboard i can go on stream of that forever if i wanted to.
I have a few friends on the spectrum as well that managed to make musical connections or technological connections when young that allowed us to figure out how we can properly communicate with the world, and its almost always happens through a route you wouldnt expect or even think of for what thats worth. I made my connections between age 6-9, and you should definitely experiment with passions and interests as much as possible of an artistic nature, any technologies available that aid communication, etc. it could change his life forever in unimaginably positive ways if you land at the right passion for the way his mind is structured. (i am not trying to tell you how to raise your child either, i promise)
Anyhoo, one of many things that bonds me with other friends on the spectrum, is our absolute and unconditional love for imogen Heap, and especially this particular song lol. I live in perpetual sensory overload, all the time, but when i put music on like this song, it pulls all that excessive uncontrolled perception into a single structured piece of a mind, it focuses that energy into a single place so the rest of my brain can actually function to some degree. At least thats what it feels like. Even more so when im playing a musical instrument. had i not been repeatedly exposed to music and instruments long enough to notice this happening, i dont think i ever would have been able to figure out how to keep my mind as focused as i do. (Admittedly not well, but i CAN function in the regular world on my own... for the most part, so long as i keep an ear bud in, and i grew up with people thinking i was straight up retarded) I just finished bulding my own guitar from scratch, and i designed debugged and built my own tube amplifier to accompany it)
Age 6, i was in learning disabled special-ed, by age 10 i was in the gifted program. My dad bought a really good stereo system, some Tool albums, a home PC, and a cheap acoustic guitar in that time period. Music and a keyboard changed my life forever lol. I had the opportunity to learn to express on my own in ways that made sense to the way my mind is structured. There are some out there who cant talk unless they sing first. I had to latch onto music hard before i could learn to communicate, and i needed* letters on a physical keyboard for that, for difficult to explain reasons, that make perfect sense to myself.
Trying to learn in school with a pencil to write before having even been able to conceptualize the communication of language as a written thing, while ALSO being told its the same thing as these mouth noises/sounds being made. I could not rationalize that enough to even begin to understand it, the way i was understanding the material used to educate me on language was neither logical, nor possible at all in my mind. I needed the physical keyboard to detach written language from spoken language to be able to understand how i could use it for communication. And i had to play with it and figure it out on my own without administrative guidance throwing my mind off. I still struggle to explain the way this worked for me, in every form of communication besides text.
This was the 90s though, as far as i know today, a lot more about this is understood and therapeutic practices are FAR more supportive towards helping children on the spectrum find their unique path to being able to communicate. It is usually fairly unique for all of us that make the communication connection.

+pisces person I personally believe +Peter Ferguson the right idea. I believe that heaven will be just like this world, except we'll be able to truly enjoy ourselves. Sure there's places on this earth where you can really enjoy but imagine being able to go anywhere without worrying about anything. That would be amazing. No struggle, no strife, no fear, just pure peace.

Sorry you missed the point. I was talking about the ability to create and express something of beauty on a much higher level and in a meaningful way. I have no idea of what the fuck you're talking about. It's feeble minded misinterpretation like your diatribe that has gotten this country, world and society in general into the shitter we're in now. Great artists, great minds will be the ones to get us out...Sweetheart....

Saw this again after a few years. Apparently this song is so ahead of the trend that the bass sounds here are so similar to lofi, but lofi bass beats are so copy paste and repetitive, while the bass here is very dynamic and alive. Thats just thr bass alone.
So many layers of things to appreciate on this one song. The lyrics is also super witty.

(This is coming from a die hard metalhead btw) Almost a decade later, this is still one of the greatest songs i've ever heard in my life. It's so good in every conveyable manner its ridiculous. Playing Minds Without Fear, running directly into Me, The Machine, on a legitimately good system, is a seriously wonderful experience. hairs on end the entire time every time.

I'd love to see a colab between Heap and David James aka Aphex Twin. Both Tech heads, James builds his own synths, so I feel they would have a connection for the technology as well as the music. I notice Heap likes to use a lot of glitch sounds in her work as does James. Would be an interesting combination.

I totally get her creative process. Some read music on a sheet, some can play by ear whatever they touch. Some must follow a pattern, some's souls have creative memory that follows no distinct path. I totally love how Imogen weaves dimensions of artistry with technology in a weird sort of ethereal magic.

Fast forward and I found out that I'm Autistic. Human things, especially relationships, don't come easy to me, I have to manually switch gears.

I think it was Alan Moore who likened the act of writing and creation in general to an act of pure magic. The idea being that expression through the written word/music, etc. is an act of sorcery itself. I forget that sentiment from time to time, but every once in a while I hear a song like this that reminds me it is extremely true. That all of us have a little bit of that magic in us and it's up to us to foster it. Or not.
