totally going for all five: it is a work of genius how the weird details you reveal for your recommendations not only don't spoil them but make them shine. 🌟
I read The Haar last year and it immediately became my favourite horror book I've ever read. Made me an instant Sodergren fan. It's still my favourite book of his, but all of his other books are absolutely worth checking out.
Crypt of the Moon Spider sounds fantastic. You've Lost a Lot of Blood is a weird and trippy ride for sure. I loved What Moves the Dead and The Haar. Great recommendations!
Omg you are so spot on about the Mike Flanagan universe. Midnight Club was a bit meh compared to the insane line up of everything else he has made. He's truly the definition of a horror fan who loves to make horror content and gives huge nods to some of the greats! I think that's what makes your writing so special too, I'm loving Managing and Other Lies - you're so talented. Cheers Willow!!
It's largely thanks to you that Larocca and Kingfisher have become two of my favourite authors, and the books you mention here are great introductions to both.
The Haar is an amazing book, I haven't read What Moves the Dead but A House with Good Bones by T Kingfisher I quite enjoyed, very funny and I think I'd love more by her. Thanks for the recs, the first one in particular sounds very creepy. And yassss to having a sponsor!
Thank you for the recs! I had never heard of The Signalman before, and now I'm quite intrigued. Or The Haar (that cover is terrifying, by the way). I've read one book by T Kingfisher (Nettle and Bone) and quite enjoyed it, so I am very interested in trying more of her work.
Willow have you read Richard Morgan's grimdark fantasy starting with The Steel Remains. I loved it. It is pretty unique and has a jaded funny violent gay warrior as a main character. Well worth your time.
Crypt of the Moon Spider by Nathan Ballingrud, The Lunar Gothic Trilogy (Volume 1) (2024) You've Lost a Lot of Blood by Eric LaRocca (2022) What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher, Sworn Soldier 1 (2022) The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe (1839) (Classic Audibooks with Elliot Narration: th-cam.com/video/ldjnKUY_G9w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Fe-06tBuBbF1cy_3) The Signal-Man by Charles Dickens (1866) (Classic Audibooks with Elliot Narration: th-cam.com/video/WCChNlQk-VE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ihOFidjw4NWe3yuF) The Haar: A Horror Novel by David Sodergren (2022)
The Beauty by Aliya Whitley is my fav short fungus horror. I 2☆ed What Moves the Dead, I much prefer the origonal even if it's high middle on my Poe list. Your book was at least 2.5× better than WMtD imo. I think you'd really like Dear Sweet Filthy World by Caitlin R Keirnan, it's gross and gnarley in all the best ways! Mrs. Calaban by Rachel Ingalls is a good story a bit like the Haar, it's closer to The Shape of Water but written in 1983. On the Same note I'm really looking forward to Providence Girls by Morgan Dante which mixes in Our Wives Under the Sea vibes.
Pretty much anything CRK does is awesome. She's my favorite. I highly recommend any of her short collections and the Threshold novels. Silk is also amazing and creepy. And I highly recommend The Red Tree.
Loved "What Moves the Dead" and loved how Kingfisher uses the culture of the Sworn Soldier to show that people have used they/them pronouns in different ways for a long, long time, and that this ridiculous backlash to it now is nothing but pure ignorance and bigotry. Also--- YES, EVEN TAYLOR SWIFT! Thank you for saying it. I make posts about Taylor Swift using her private jet more than any other celebrity, even for trips as small as half an hour, and the amount of carbon she shoots off into the air, and I get severe backlash from the same people who will agree with me if I'm talking about Elon Musk doing the same thing. There is ALWAYS an excuse for Taylor Swift. It is so hypocritical and just... well, kind of cultish, to be honest. Thank you. Glad to rant for a minute about this... Oh, and "Crypt of the Moon Spider" sounds awesome.
Ugh I’m so sick of her and her cult of sycophants (which is probably half the planet at this point). If someone’s a billionaire, they’re immoral trash and they shouldn’t be admired. Yes, even her!
Flannigan's Haunting of Hill House was cliche and full of eye-rolling platitudes. Midnight Mass also suffered many of the same groan-inducing writing problems but was by far the better series, not least because it was actually original and had a solid premise. And his Fall of the House of Usher was also pretty trashy, but was at least watchable for the Halloween season (and I found some of the more clever Poe references funny).
😂 I've literally been arguing Prometheus on these TH-cam comments the past few days. I didn't hate it (nor find it all that pretentious) - I just thought it was a completely, totally average, plasticky studio product. Not bad, just humdrum and overrated by casuals who only know what's shown on the boobtube. But yeah, love that you took a dig at it.
I BOUGHT YOUR BOOK! It hasn't arrived yet but I'm so excited to read it! ♥
Yay, thank you!
I love a short horror book.
Short seems to work especially well for the genre.
Thank you for recommending short horror books.

I've read all of these except The Signalman - off I go to get that one 🥰
Horror and short horror at that! Thank you for the recommendations. I’m on my way to go read the signalman now

Some great recommendations there. I've been on an Eric LaRocca spree lately.
would have liked bc of the book recs alone but immediately hit the like button for the side commentary on billionaires (including taylor swift) lol
This thumbnail is everything 😂❤
Eric LaRocca writes great stuff. Crypt of the Moon Spider is high on my radar.

Amazing, yay!
my girlfriend read the haar not long ago and ever since i’ve been so intrigued!! great video as always, thank you for your recs 🥰
I love The Signalman. I read it once a year around Halloween.
The Haar is an amazing book, I haven't read What Moves the Dead but A House with Good Bones by T Kingfisher I quite enjoyed, very funny and I think I'd love more by her.

What moves the dead was a fun retelling! I've read The Twisted Ones and The Hollow places from the same author and liked very much
When you upload a video, my mood just lights up! Thank you so much >
Not me squealing with excitement when I saw you posted a new video 🤣🤗
Awwww 🥹
Midnight Mass is special. It's probably the best media that explored how families of ex-religious people pressure them to go back to church.
Willow have you read Richard Morgan's grimdark fantasy starting with The Steel Remains. I loved it. It is pretty unique and has a jaded funny violent gay warrior as a main character. Well worth your time.
Hello! That sounds amazing!!! Thank you!
I really enjoyed the signalman but found it haunting but not scary. But I love haunts.
Horror novellas? Oh you know my weakness all too well...
😈
Off you go! 😅
I totally subscribed based on your accent alone. ❤

Thanks for the recs!
I did really enjoy Dear Sweet Filthy World, Silk and The Red Tree sound particularly interesting.
Will your book be available on Amazon Canada at some point? I would love to buy it.

Why did you like Midnight Club? Have you read Christopher Pike's Midnight Club?
I didn’t like it very much. And I haven’t read it.
LOL that thumbnail tho!
