  • In 1912, the RMS Titanic sailed from Southampton, England, to New York City with 2,224 passengers and crew on board. Just after 1 a.m. on April 15, 1912, the Titanic hit an iceberg and began to sink. As the Titanic went down, the Reception Room on D Deck became flooded. In this video I present you an animation of how it looked like inside on that fateful night.

    Titanic is a perfect example of this: it doesn’t matter how long it takes, how much effort you gave, it could take years to build, but just hours to sink.

    It is strange you wouldn’t think that such a big ship would go down that quickly. For people like us two hours is a short time to get things done, that was probably the longest and most painful two hours for the people on that ship.

      She was horribly damaged. Thomas Andrews actually thought she’d go down in an hour. Hour and a half tops. She stayed afloat for two hours and forty minutes. She was a well built ship and I doubt any other ship of that era would have survived such bad damage.

      No, three hours for someone who's life is at risk of ending would feel like five minutes, but they had no idea of how long it would take, it was not as if the passengers were looking at their watches thinking, "only twenty minutes left now", the only people who had a relatively good idea of the rough time the ship would founder was the designer Thomas Andrews, the captain Edward Smith and the birdge officers.

    There was a lot of turbulent water in there. Would have thought it would have crept in (Maybe at a high rate) but would have been much smoother. The lights sparking while dry was a little dramatic. BIG SMILE. Neat reenactment though. Love seeing Titanic simulations.

      I would assume that the water would be "bouncing" off various walls as more and more water entered as she descended deeper and deeper into the water.

    So when I was a small child, I had a recurring dream where I was trying to get to some stairs from a flooded "dining room" (I thought that was it because of all the chairs and stuff floating around. When I was 14 I saw the movie titanic and where I was, always looked eerily similar to D deck reception area. Like, I freaked out when I saw the movie. I told my mom that's what my dream looked like.
    The lights always went out (end of your video kinda panicked me for a second.) And I couldn't see where I was going anymore. Couldn't see the stairs. Could only hear creaking and small pops. Then a boom. Then I wake up.

      I once had a dream that i was in E deck. I had left my cabin and I started going up. I remember looking down on F deck and it had flooded. I was a the dining room looking for someone. Then the lights went out for a solid minute. I went up C deck and I remember the water being as cold as ice. I went up to A deck. And I waited there until the dome broke. I left and I went to the last remaining lifeboat. Then I woke up.

Passengers sending telegrams to family waiting for them. Captain didn't have the proper navigation charts when left south Hampton didn't drop the anchor an chains to lessen the weight at the front. Damage was to the side next to the swimming pool and ship lacked a double hull around boiler room #2 and front. And Damage done to bottom of the ship in the mail cargo areas. Main cargo area filled up like a bathtub. In less then 60 minutes. No back up generator for water pumps an not enough of them to supply the amount of water entering the ship. Ship splits in Half were propeller shaft ended. Floors above it. Had no reinforcement an were empty dead space Passengers didn't believe it was happening and took to long to get up to main deck. Not enough life boats. Break it all down they had. Little under 1/2 an hour to do it

    Each class section was only accessible to crew. And we're separated by locked gates. This was true in the film. Because it was going on in the Olympic an others white star line ships. Only first class had access to the life boats. Wich were on first class a deck.

    • @Vaughn_e13
      @Vaughn_e13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course classes were separated during normal travel, that does not apply when the ship is sinking. Numerous first hand accounts show that all gates were eventually opened after the crash so that all passengers could attempt to reach the boats up on deck.

    Its my understanding that the water seen inside would be very sedate and slow, not a raging torrent like it is here. Texture wise the water here looks terrible. Not natural. It looks like the poorly simulated water in the Playstation 2 game Raw Danger from way back in 2002. Nothing compares to real water flooding Cameron's D deck set recreation from '97.

    • @DS-fk7ed
      @DS-fk7ed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The water flooding the Titanic was not sedate and slow at this point in the sinking, in fact the water level rose rapidly from the moment the iceberg struck. The post room flooded within a few minutes. Hardly a sedate or slow flooding.
      As for this I agree it does not look realistic, but this area of D deck was flooding less than 20 minutes before the Titanic foundered. At this point in the sinking the water level outside was up to C deck, so not only would water be rapidly boiling up from E deck below via the staircase but also flooding from all entrances.
      The chance of getting out of this area as it flooded would have been very slim, and very few people (if any) would have been running around this area during this timeframe.

    • @marccru
