  • Hi folks, in this video I review the Nessmuk 125 knife that Brisa Ltd sent to me about 2 months ago. I hope you like the video folks, I'm really thankful for you taking the time to watch. If you liked the video could you please give it a thumbs up and share it. I just so happened to purchase Brisa's Kephart kit and was looking for TH-cam reviews on them when your video was suggested. The quality of the components looks second to none and I can't wait to put it together and start slicing. The excellent content here and the pipes earned the subscription. Thanks.

Greetings from BC, Canada. I have too many knives, old, some new, some self-made. 80CRV2 is an excellent, tough steel favoured by puukko blade smiths, used by the Saami People for generations. Brisa is a good company, i have shopped there a lot over the last 15 years. The Nessmuk, not your typical modern 'bushlore' kind of design, but I would be happy to use it for most tasks, I have learned the value of knives with a 'belly' to the blade. The high grind and thinner blade stock explains its slicing capabilities. I am no fan of chopping with knives being an axe fan and if this is a zero grind it will fold, possibly chip if used for chopping. If I had one, I would strop it about 20 times each side and it would form a micro-convex on the edge. This would strengthen the edge considerably and not impede slicing ability. This would be a great knife for field dressing bigger game with that rounded back edge. Great video review friend, WS

Cheers mate, yeah it's a unique knife. Just a pity I can't use it to it's true potential with animal prep. Yeah brisa are good, i own a few of their knives, i love their Traper 95 knives the best. Thanks for stopping by mate, take care 👍

I have this Brisa Nessmuk and I’m very pleased. Notes: 1. I have XL hands and the handle is just a wee bit short...still get a good grip with excellent control though. 2. I bought the one with the standard grade Birch handle scales and they’re easily the highest grade I’ve ever seen...after making my own Nordic knives for about 20 years. Gorgeous. Thanks for the great review.

Seen the Nessmuk from a few different companies now but this one looks like the highest quality. Fit and finish is great and I love those red liners

Nice video Andy of a nice looking knife. Great to see that you used it before giving your honest opinion. I like Brisa as a company and have used them for a good few years now - the Nessmuk may well appear in my basket for checkout in the near future. Cheers.

Cheers mate, yeah I didn't wanna just do a table top review. I wanted to do a fair and honest opinion, using it for a few weeks beforehand. Thanks for stopping by, take care 👍

Great review Andy :) Good, honest and thorough.
I like Enzo knives anyway. I keep looking at the trapper. But the Nessmuk shape has always seemed interesting.
Keep up the great work mate, all the best, Mark :)

Cheers Mark, yeah I used it dor a few weeks so that my opinions were based on experience rather than opening the box in my living room and speculating how well the knife 'could' perform. Thanks for stopping by mate, enjoy the weekend 👍

Good, straightforward review. I like the looks of the knife, but I'd be willing to bet that the original Nessmuk was flat ground as opposed to a scandi-grind. In a way, the grind makes the knife a fish with legs. The Nessmuk is primarily a skinner/food prep knife, yet the grind is primarily for cutting wood. As a comparison, I was lucky enough to get a high-quality recreation of a Marble's Woodcraft knife a few years ago. It has a flat grind and a similar skinner sweep; it's on the small side compared to a lot of bushcraft knives and has a shorter handle than most modern knives, but it's agile and good for cutting anything you'd use a belt knife for, although I wouldn't baton anything large with it. In any case, I think it's fun to have a knife with a history. Enjoy your Nessmuk.

What a coincidence, just yesterday I picked up George W. Sears book - otherwise I would not have even known what a "Nessmuk" is hahaha. For those who don't - read the book, the first 40 pages already are worth it. :)
Looks like a lovely knife, but I guess it is quite a challenge to resharpen that due to the geometry, isn't it?

Cheers mate, yeah I really enjoyed the book. I only ever had to touch it up on my field stone/strop since it was sent to me. The edge retention is very good, (I forgot to mention this during the video) I haven't needed to put it on the bench stones at home. Thanks for watching mate, take care 👍

Yes a very peculiar shape Andy but I do like it. I baton with a knife and that shape I feel would do the job for me. Nice little review bud.
