  • I am a geologist by profession and training. This is an educational channel devoted mostly to spread of geological knowledge and education. I work hard to make the material you see presented to you in this short concise videos. Please support this channel by "LIKE"ing and sharing the videos and help them to be seen. I am making many videos every month. It is a constant stream of unique graphics and presentations of scientifically accurate and timely information about volcanoes. I am here for you to report everything about this fascinating subject. This is my expertise, my professional training, my education and my job.
Please if you feel you like them, support my work by using the Super Thanks and membership of the channel. Thank you.
Some of the images are produced by recent advances in Artificial Intelligence. They are just pretty pictures that AI is producing when a text describes a volcanic event or geological phenomenon for them. They are by no means represent the reality and are used here only for their graphical merits.
A great source for live views of the volcano in Reykjanes Peninsula is the amazing mbl.is TH-cam channel. Please SUBSCRIBE and like and share their live TH-cam camera views here to help their work be known. Iceland depends on tourism and beyond the Reykjanes Peninsula there are plenty of sites with world class tourist attractions. If you want to help Iceland, plan a holiday to this amazing country. Icelandic people are kind and welcoming people and their food and cousin is second to none. The clip of starting moments of the eruption is courtesy of mbl Iceland.

Icelandic Meteorological Office is a great source of information and maps:

The team that designed the dikes at Grindavík and Svartsengi gained a lot of experience in designing and making them when experiments were carried out with dikes during the eruption at Fagradalsfjall in 2021. It was not surprising to the team when the dikes passed the test in the eruption on January 14.

To me the whole idea of building berms (lava defense walls) does not make sense. If I understand right Grindavik is basically built on a volcano and earth can open up anywhere. And it can be huge amounts of lava that's still to come.
Basic logic would suggest to move the town away. But unfortunately mankind has developed a bad attitude towards our mother Earth.
We seem to enjoy to go at war with her. That's why defense walls.
So when Earth laid out the current land it was all super duper OK, as we were not present and now where we are there Earth must obey human ideas.
Mankind is in a deep spiritual crisis and I don't mean aloof spirituality but down to earth spirituality. We have disconnected from creation - a very bad move.
(I am not religious, not even an atheist).

The whole of Iceland is made of lava / basically build by volcanoes. So you're saying Iceland should not be inhabited at all?

@@insulanerin7601 No of course not. I mean a different mental approach. One that accommodates the fact that a region can become active.
All beings in nature would make a move and we humans have decided to say nature does it wrong, we have to fight it.
Consequently the social approach would need to be different. I.e. that a town like Grindavik would be moved or a new one built at a safe location as close as possible and given for free to the people.
That's a different mindset altogether. A really human one it would be.
Billions are spent on wars but nothing for something that would make sense.
Grindavik is a small town and when I look at all the berms built without any guarantee that fissures will always occur outside of those berms or that not more lava than can be handled occurs I wonder if all that effort would have built a New Grindavik by now.

@@walterdewald267 They might have to give up Grindavik, but I suppose they are still waiting a few years. The next eruptions might be further away.

@@insulanerin7601 In a chat of AfarTV it was said that plenty of Grindavik folks took the government offer to buy their house. They can also buy it back within 3 years.
Weird how hard it is for us humans to be flexible and the inability to accept the fact that we are all one family.
Similar with the Ukrainian soldiers who know they are cannon fodder, have never a chance to win, have a total corrupt government - but yet still go to the front and die. Why? All common sense speaks against that. Why die for an evil cause?
But there we go. Humans are stupid as fuck - sadly, because the potential for an enlightened being is in all of us.
