Hardy is an amazing songwriter for so many reasons but my favorite are the little lines most people overlook like in Lainey’s first verse/Chorus “I never thought my day of justice would come from a judge underneath a seat” play on the word judge as Hardy shoots the dude with a Taurus “judge” revolver/ she’s testifying to an actual judge. Shit like that just makes me wonder how he comes up with this stuff.

Hardy's "wait in the truck" is dark, but it's such a crystal clear lyric and story. It's perfection. The lyrics, and music - tones are beautiful - even with dark content.

Grady after your comment on Parmalee’s song possibly going #1 and being unmemorable made me think it’d be interesting to have a video on the most memorable songs that never went #1 and the most unmemorable songs to go #1. It’d be hard to quantify memorable but there are so many songs that fans of a particular artist feel is #1 song that didn’t chart very well.

IDK if I would call "strawberry wine" a song about a loss of innocence. It's almost like a song about holding onto innocence. it's like, love was great when adulthood wasn't around to decorate it with responsibility, and it's still great and innocent now. just seasoned with time
she says the words, but she doesn't sing it like she means it. She sings it like she means that love then was great, love now is great. little beautiful snapshots and vignettes of her favorite moments that are innocent and pure in intention. she doesn't want to go back to stay, but she loves to go back to visit
which is honestly super sweet. good memories are beautiful things

But one day I was listening to the song again and for some reason I just heard something different and wondered if that's actually what he was saying. I then looked up the lyrics and saw that it was "Evinrude" which suddenly made the song make so much more sense. From a bar stool (story from the first verse) to that evinrude (the fishing story). I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one thinking he said "Living Room" lol.

There's a new trend of country artists mixing today's country sound with the past. Not the sound of country music past, just the general sound of the 60s/70s. Songs About You by Brett Eldredge is a good example, and Lainey Wilson's new music also fits that vibe. It's not super country, (thankfully) it's not super pop, it's vintage and cool and I love it. If more people keep this style up I think we could have a whole subgenre
Edit: There is a lot of music with this sound, I'm gonna put them all in a playlist

@gradysmith have you ever heard Jack Daniel’s Cologne by Cam Allen? I literally can not stop listening. Can’t believe it’s not a more popular jam.

Anybody else notice "Beer With My Friends" sounds like a Part 2 of Kenny's song "Wild Ride" with Joe Walsh? I can't listen to one without listening to the other

The line where he says, “where I am is better than where he is (HELL)” that makes the song.

It’s all lowercase in the title. Double album half rock songs in capital letters half country songs in lowercase 💯

You should check out "Denver" by Parker Eidle, I think you'd like it a lot.

It takes a big man to admit he didn’t know about Evinrude. Especially when that man is one of the biggest voices in country music 😂
As always, thanks for the great content.
