- What was anticipated to be one of the most exciting osu! matches of the year quickly turned south, when a huge accusation against one of the match contestants dropped on twitter. In the early hours before the highly anticipated match would commence, a top player (badeu) would post a tweet, outlining an investigation that they and two other top players (Zylice and GRANDMASTER/na1g0) took part in. It questioned the legitimacy of one of the most celebrated players in recent time (worst hr player), and made three core points to substantiate their claims. If these claims were true, it would have big implications for the state of the game.

The whole thing about the cursor jumping, that happens to me a lot with my wacom. It's because I lift up my stylus to re-position my hand on the wacom, and then usually the cursor is in a different spot. Makes no sense

Teleporting the cursor does not prove that the player is using third-party programs or cheats, this is explained by the fact that when you understand the pen until the tablet detects it and then suddenly moves closer
And then you sharply bring the pen closer to the tablet only in another place (further than the bridge from where you picked up the pen) and your cursor teleports TADA no magic

"the imporving too fast is cheating" line is complete bs i have friends with 100hours that are ranked 500,000 and can barely do 4 stars i have 40 hours, i started on 3 stars, went to 5 stars in 2 months and am ranked 100,000 difference is i have more hours in tactical shooters than them and aiming in osu isnt much different to aiming at someones head. its not a good argument at all.
Semi-old player who was active 2014-2018 here.
I am glad that this community has long moved past its era where cheating accusations were thrown around like it's candy and that people generally take this kida stuff more seriously now. I am also glad that people are generally more relaxed and don't try to witch hunt players, desparately combing for cheaters anymore. I for one remember a slightly clickbaity video a few years back called "The biggest problem in osu", and its thesis was essentially "it's the cheaters and people just ignore them". Super cringy stuff, seeing as I believe this was either during or just after the era I am referring to, and that you hinted at in the video.
I am of the opinion that cheating accusations need to be taken very seriously, and any false ones need to be debunked ASAP. I also do believe that the ones making ultimately false accusations need to be called out and take accountability. This however, is where my contention with this video starts.
Holding people accountable is very important, but much like cheating evidence, you also need to be very careful with this kind of stuff. I believe that the way this video tries to hold the accusers to account is very careless and much more vindictive than it really needs to be. The way that the 2nd half of the video plays out really feels more like a hit piece than a documentation of events. Do the investigators deserve to be criticized? Yes. Do they deserve to have this incident held over their heads for the rest of their lives? Well, if they already learned their lesson, then no. This video actually does document some evidence of them learning their lessons. You may not like their way of wording their apologies, but as far as I can tell, they know they screwed up. Ultimately, this is also a conflict between worst hr player and them, not the community at large. The only one who really deserves an apology is worst hr player, not the community. As such, it is not up to the community or content creators to keep any of this conflict going. This only leads to more shitflinging and public drama, which will hurt the mental health of the investigators further, a punishment that I do not believe fits the crime.
It even goes as far as making some seriously outrageous and harmful claims. At 7:38 you say you believe that the three investigators "purposely put [the report] out in order to ruin [worst hr player]'s mental in preparation for the grand finals". This claim was not substantiated much, if at all. Much like how you need high-quality evidence to conclude someone is cheating, this claim of malice on the part of the investigators also needs high-quality evidence, which much like in the investigation, is very lacking in this case. Why should I take your word on it?
My interpretation of the whole situation is closer to a cautionary tale than anything else. I believe the investigators were genuinely suspicious of worst hr player's scores, and looked into them for weird details as such. They may have found weird details in his scores and added them to the evidence pile, but forgotten to check for if any of it was high-quality or if they had other explanations. From there it may have simply snowballed, and as fallable humans, they may have lost their sense of critical thinking, letting emotions and social pressure take hold. In regards to this video, Hanlon's and Occam's razors apply. You mention a discord server. Was their original intent to destroy worst hr player through this server and were celebrating his downfall because they thought they would get away with falsely accusing someone of cheating? Or is it more likely that they just made a discord server to compile evidence and it accidentally became an echo chamber over time? Did they really accuse worst hr player of cheating to ruin his career? Or did they, once again, genuinely believe they had high quality evidence and that they had come to the conclusion beyond reasonable doubt?
Drama content is very fun and the strongest human emotion that there is is rage. It is also fun to see people experience karma. There is no denying this. What you really should be careful about is letting "exposing" someone get to your head. You should be careful about what unintentional harm you yourself may be causing. The community does not need to continue any dogpiling on anyone. Both parties in the conflict and the community around it need to heal and move forward.
I will end this essay with something I told someone I suspected of cheating Touhou scores recently. I later cleared this person of any cheating, because I could not conclude beyond reasonable doubt they cheated:
"I do not care to expose anyone. I care only about the cold hard facts.
"exposing" someone is not very far away from cancelling someone. cancel culture is a bad thing and I wish to avoid this as best I can.

I hate when i see someone get jealous over something like skill. Like, it's my entire reason why I am as good as I am. I love watching people better than me because it really motivates me to be greater than them.
The fact that people are just realising that people who don't go outside are toxic is laughable to me. I remember being Top 50k back in 2016 (nothing impressive I know, I let the game go and am a 6 digit now) and people being toxic was all over the place. Peppy and osu! mods are pretty toxic too, if not the worst perpetuators.

Will preface this by saying I personally do not having any stakes in this beyond personally preferring any sort of discourse having all information available to discuss. This isn't meant to defend or condemn any players in specific but simply to make anyone watching in future aware and able to come to their own conclusions.
To add further context here since this video has come out:
Zylice created a doc where in he does publicly address the situation, in it, he makes a few statements.
- He claims to have had no involvement in the writing of the doc or the timing of its release
- He claims to have only been involved specifically to test the maple cheat, as no one else in the group was willing to buy it or publicly use it, (basically claiming he was not a lead contributor like grandmaster or badeu, but rather of similar levels of involvement as a player like yip)
- He claims he was confident that he wouldn't be banned for the use of maple because there is a precedent set in the past, where Tournaments have been able to publicly utilize replay submitters for the sake of showcases. He states that using the cheat offline for utility purposes such as this has long been considered perfectly fine, and consider the example video that was used to be in the doc to be for utility purposes only, not for cheating purposes.
finally, he states that the takedown of the positive osu community video is purely temporary, since it was used a conduit for people to spread negative comments about the drama, which goes against what the video is about. (will interject with a little bit of my own opinion for the first time here and just say I do actually agree with this, because imo I don't mix art and artist and I think the video still stands by its merits; it would also be a *really* bad look for the osu community if the one video talking about how its actually really positive was swarmed with hate comments)

Why is the community so weird about this? In every other game, using “cheats” offline for the purpose of documentation, research, or experimentation is completely fine because you’re not impacting anyone but yourself. It’s actually the only ways you can really learn to find cheaters is by understanding the cheating tools that they use and how it looks when they’re being used. Do people just really hate this Zylice guy? Or is this a sentiment held by the majority of the community?
people who have used cheats offline in the way zylice did have been banned before for a prolonged period of time. As you mention cheats are basically the only way to find other cheats. There are replay analyser's to see whether cheats have been used or not. Them making up some random excuse to use cheats when it was clearly a replicable tablet bug doesn't make any sense to use it in the first place. nlike the others Zylice was able to continue playing the game legitimately as an already established and trusted figure in the community.
I improved from 3,5* maps to 6-7* maps in 1,5 months after I stopped smoked zaza and started playing osu daily
