Gerry Matthews was "Sugar Bear", doing a Crosby impression. In fact, before his death, Bing insisted that voice be changed, or he'd sue. And it was, for a while, until after Bing's departure...then "Sugar Bear" began sounding like his old self again.
You know, normally I'd say she won the battle when Granny demonstrated the ability to phase Golden Crisp boxes through solid walls via ghost, but I know this bear's M.O.; if the wall's in his way, he'll tear it the fuck down until there are no walls left to hide behind. FOR GOD'S SAKES, GRANNY! SURELY HOLDING THE TITLE OF "ONLY HUMAN IN THE FOREST" IS NOT WORTH ALL THIS!! MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!
@ironbuttermilk I know that. But June Foray not Ruth Buzzi was the voice of Granny Good Witch in Super Golden Crisp commercials when she returned to commercials in the 1990s.
@pretzel78 It was this guy named Gerry Matthews. He never did anything else and very little info has been given about him but he did the voice for over 40 years
@RReneeS spook is not a racist word. That is has gotten racist connotations over time and is now considered not PC is one thing, but in those days there was nothing racist about the word spook. Same thing with the words gay and fag that are frequently used to denote homosexuals. Those words meant something completely different earlier on.
@johanns1968 Yes, I'm aware that spook is not necessarily a racist word, but seeing as how it is associated with derogatory references to African Americans it is a little amusing to watch something like this now. I wasn't saying it to be offensive myself. I am African American by the way. I'm sure even though gay people know the word fag has different meanings it's something else entirely when used in reference to a person.
@acfinney See my answer to Johanns above for another take on the use of that word. And as for your belief that "young people" and Blacks are self important, maybe you need to take life a little less seriously. I certainly wasn't taking any real offense to the word as used in this commercial. I was being facetious. I haven't been young for a long while, before you accuse me of being naive along with being a self important black person.
This was one of my most favorite commercials watching cartoons on Saturday morning!
cant get enough of that sugar crisp sugar crisp sugar crisp
Can't get enough of that Sugar Crisp, even if hundreds die!

Sugar Crisp Cereal= Keeps you calm and high as a kite.
June Foray reprised the role as the voice of Granny Good Witch when Super Golden Crisp commercials in the 1990s.
The old lady doesn't seem too upset with Sugar Bear taking her cereal...
Too stoned to know fear.
that bear is so chill
Ruth Buzzy is the voice of Granny in Post Sugar Crisp commercials.
However, the Bear is not Bing Crosby's voice, the man is just a sound alike.
Is that a panzer tank?!
holy shit that bear isn't afraid of anything
Sounds like Dean Martin.
this is fantastic :D

Sugar Crisp is a pretty cool guy, eh eats cereal and doesn't afraid of anything.
Sterling Holloway did the voice of Sugar Bear for the commercials. Gerry Matthews did the voice for the animated cartoons of the 1960's.
@ironbuttermilk I know that. But June Foray not Ruth Buzzi was the voice of Granny Good Witch in Super Golden Crisp commercials when she returned to commercials in the 1990s.
lol he said come back here you spook. LAWLZ.
It is now. It started as Sugar Crisp, then the name changed to Super Sugar Crisp, then to Super Golden Crisp, then to it's current name, Golden Crisp.

@gforcejunk lol, I was going to say the same thing. Sugar bear was politically incorrect, but then no one knew about being PC back then :)
