In dem Video ist im übrigen nicht nur der unten beschriebene Motor zu sehen, sondern der komplette sog. Triebwerksblock, bestehend aus dem Motor und dem kombinierten Schalt-, Lenk- und Wendegetriebe, welches als Überlagerungsgetriebe ausgelegt ist. Es besitzt 4 Vorwärts und 2 Rückwärtsgänge und wird von der Fa. Renk gebaut. Auf dem Getriebe sitzt der große Radiallüfter mit hydr. Antrieb, welcher eine max Leistung von umgerechnet ca 90 Ps. vernichtet. Bei hohen Zuglasten im Schleppbetrieb oder im schweren Gelände ist das Zuschalten des Lüfters auf hoher Stufe nicht nur hörbar, sonder auf Leistungstechnisch spürbar. Die ganze Einheit hat ca 5,5 To. und ist nahezu unzerstörbar. Habe meinen BgPZ.Standart LS 12 Jahre gefahren und viel gefordert und nie ein Problem damit. Egal ob im Winter bei -25° oder im Sommer bei 30° und einem Leo II im Schlepp (den BgPz Büffel gab`s da noch nicht ) z. B.: Übung Kecker Spatz, da blieben so einige Leo II wegen eine anfänglichen Kinderkrankheit am Lichtmaschinenregler liegen und mussten da über viele Km geschleppt werden. Ich weiss heute noch die Y-Nummer von "meinem" Eisenauto. Habe das Teil mehr geliebt als so manches Mädel. Möcht nur wissen wo der abgeblieben ist. Als LS gibts den bestimmt heute noch beim Bund.

Standlauf.....immer gerne gemacht . Auf Übungen in Bauernhöfen oder einfach im Feld. The 2 supercharger do not disrupt the exhaust gas flow and i liked its pure sound more than the Leo2 with Turbo´s.

Der Motor, wie schon in einem anderen Beitrag geschrieben, ist ein MTU MB 838 CAM 500 10 Zylinder V-Motor mit 38l Hubraum, 830 PS und 2 mechanischen Ladergebläsen. Das längere durchdrehen des Motors mit dem Anlasser wird nur gemacht um eventuelle Wasserschläge, welche den Motor beim Verdichten total zerstören könnten, zu vermeiden. (der Anlasser hätte nicht die Kraft dazu, jedoch wenn Diesel eingespritzt wird und ein Zylinder zündet...) Nach dieser Prüfung auf Wasser in einem Zylinder wird die Regelstange der Einspritzpumpe losgelassen auf Start bzw. Leerlaufstellung und der Motor springt kalt oder warm sofort an. Sobald der Motor auch nur leicht warm wird müssen die Abgase farblos sein, ansonsten stimmt etwas nicht. Top Motor und Top Bergepanzer. Hat sehr viel Spass gemacht, diesen als leistungsgesteigerte Version 12 Jahre in allen Lebenslagen fahren, bedienen, warten und reparieren zu dürfen
@ Matti Päivinen if you look at 0.25", you can see the valves covers. 4 of them are mercedes (star) and the fifth is an MTU. This engine was build by Mercedes-Meybach. Then MTU buy the brand and all Leopard's engine was made by MTU, but it is the same engine. Btw., for information, I was a Léopard 1 mecanics in the late 70's in the Belgian Army and at this time all Leopard's engines was a Mercedes-Meybach. Sorry for my english, I'm French speaking.
Thanks very much for clarification. I was in a fair (7. Jul) where was a 2 A 6 belonging to Finnish army. It attracted my interest, especially the sound. Netherland dumped 120 of those to Finland. I wonder why the engine is a prechamber engine as modern diesels are direct injected? For multi fuel purpose? Then what it can burn in crisis situation if short of real diesel fuel? Best wishes.
Back in the day the brand was named Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH and built nearly every engine that was used for Wehrmacht tanks, like the Tiger, Panther etc.. In the 60s Daimler Benz bought the Maybach-Motorenwerke and had its bigger engines (in addition to the so far portfolio of MM) made in Friedrichshafen under the new name Maybach Mercedes-Benz Motorenbau GmbH. That name was again changed by the end of the 60s to MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH (now part of the Rolls-Royce Group). MTU didn't exist before that. So MTU or Maybach-Mercedes made the MB838 engine which is shown in this vid from the very beginning because its the same company. Only the name of the brand changed.
