I really think reviewers are really missing the trick to this game. It is Slay the Spire the board game and it is as fun to play as Slay the Spire the digital game. It has been well received by all the play groups I have introduced it to and none of these people have ever heard of Slay the Spire and would 100 percent not sit down in front of a screen to play slay the spire on the computer. If you remember how it felt to find combos and learn a character for the first time in Slay the Spire on the computer, I have seen that same enthusiasm with my play groups towards the board game. This is a good game, and the comparison to the video game should not take away from how fun it is to play it.

I agree with your thoughts here, the coop is a very fun element and the adaptation is faithful yet streamlined.

OH! I love the game. The pace could be a bit faster IMO, like it feels the "gameplay to upkeep" ratio is a bit high I think, but its definitely awesome to share the exact same feeling you get from the excellent digital game but with friends. And, once everybody around the table knows the drill we "share" the upkeep work as well, so it's not that bad.

4 players doesn't have to slow the game down. You can all play simultaneously, no need to take turns and discuss every card played.

There are some very good reasons for making a video game version of a board game, but not many reasons for turning a video game into a board game.
