- Aquarium Pea Puffer Feeding. These beautiful fish are very tiny but I have a ton of personality. They are some of my new favorites that I have in my fish aquariums. Feeding your pea puffers Should consist of feeding them carnivorous meat-based foods. They very much prefer crustaceans like snails or other invertebrates.

I’ve found that mine can have Amano shrimp, Electric Blue Gobies & a Mexican dwarf crayfish as tankmates . Everyone is still alive a year later.

One did take a few bites out of one of the plants.
Now I can use on eye dropper to feed them instead of a syringe.
More control over the amount dispensed.
I feed mine mostly vibra bites. He loves it.
Horses were found to be biting the heads off nesting birds and eating them because they were lacking in calcium. Horses are definitely not omnivore or carnivores, but still met a need by eating an animal. Maybe your puffers are getting something from the plants they are lacking?
I have 7 pea puffers in my 32 gal Fluval flex that is heavily planted. I have absolutely had plants that have been bitten by the puffers but not because they wanted to eat the plant it was more like they were trying to get what was on the plant…snail, ghost shrimp, etc.

My pea puffers have definitely bitten the plants, it shocked me the first time I witnessed it, I don’t know if they’re swallowing the pieces but now I notice the little pea puffer sized bites out of the plant leaves 😂 I’ve also seen them bite textured bits on their tank decorations. I’m probably wrong but I like to think they just do it for funsies
I think puffers are just curious little dudes! Mine definitely bite at just about everything in the tank when they’re exploring
I agree they bite the leaves at least mine do too but I think they see tiny bugs we don’t . They have crazy good vision .
Love this video. They’re adorable! What size tank do you have these guys in? How much do you feed them and how often? I’m currently setting up a heavily planted ten gallon for three. I’ll go watch your tank setup video now too.
In the wild these puffers have been found with large amounts of algae in their stomache. I recently heard about it

My pea puffer is relatively new but he’s been picking at my plants too. Just because they are carnivores doesn’t mean they won’t eat plants. Cats and dogs are carnivores and they eat small amounts of plants such as grass, berries and other things for different reasons. It’s just not a common part of their diet.
My Peas won't eat mysis or brine shrimp. They'll only eat snails or the frozen bloodworms 😞
Will they eat freeze dried krill?
I have my pea puffers with some Cory catfish, the Cory’s stay at the bottom and the puffers in the middle in plants, my tank is a heavily planted tank tho. I have seen mine nibble on plants.
How did they do in the long run with the corys? I have 3 peas with a few corys and they seem to get along.
I have a population of pest snails in my tank, can that sustain my pea puffers? I’m worried as my pea puffer won’t eat blood worms.

Would pea puffers eat normal red worms? Like the ones you find in the garden.
