I had heard of carbide but never looked into them. I just figured they were too pricey and sharpening would be too diffiuclt. Thanks for the nice words buddy!
@Ohio Wood Burner Ltd at least in normal logs, the chain should last two tri-axle loads of logs. Not sure how long your regular saw chain lasts. Having a carbide chain around for dirty logs wouldn't be the worst idea I've ever had.
I have been critical of certain of your procedures in other videos, but you are really showing a mastery of this JAPA machine. Great production - particularly with that "back-and-forth" feeder to repeat splits. Not only does it take a wad of cash to land one of these toys in your yard, you have to know how to coddle it and keep it happy. So many steps to learn! So many hydraulic hoses to attach! So many accessories you need to understand how to operate to get split wood up to and then out of the machine. Great show!
Joe, try running a semi chisel chain instead of a full chisel chain. Semi chisel chain has a rounded cutter which is more forgiving to dirt. I run that kind of chain on my processor. Keep up the good work!
Hi Joe. What a beautiful day in Ohio when you filmed this. Thanks for showing the upgrades to the 405. That jug alone for the bar oil is a such a nice improvement. I know your pain on dirty logs. I bought a truck load last year that came out after a late spring snow. I took my time processing it and even tried moving the logs to allow the rain to clean them. Went through a chain or two on that load. But I got pretty efficient at sharpening the chains. 😂 Thanks for another great video and the videographer did a fantastic job too! Have a great day 👍🏻!
Joe I certainly hope ALLIED VAN LINES realizes the value of the exposure your channel provides them and comes on as a SPONSOR of Ohio Wood Burner! Tim in northern TN
Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Would it be more efficient to power wash the logs a week before processing? The time taken may be no more than that used to change the chains more frequently. Regarding the log table, I would suggest bolting instead of the more permanent welding idea. If there isn't enough meat on the inner tube, place two flats across the join and drill and bolt them all together. The place is looking well.
@haroldphipps3457 the biggest problem is trying to keep that thing filled off of well water could dry out the well and will definitely wear out your pumps
Hello Joe, Japa 405 with box wedge is as perfect as it gets for splitting wood, but I would need a chair and earpods and Grooving to SmokeyRobinson😂🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
Nice setup! Depending on what you do with the wood once you have the trailer full itcseems with splitsthat you get a d not needing to resplit you have saved a load of manual labor and honestly you haven't hadto hardly touch a piece of wood! Wow! Very efficient!
Impressive production joe. This time of year i am a split and deliverr kind of guy. It takes me 1-1/2 hours to just splt and stack a half cord into the truck..
Very nice smooth operation Joe. Elaine from Canada here, what a great system of collecting the different waste products. Hope you’re feeling at home at your new place, and eventually have all the necessary tools and amenities close at hand. That 405 is a wonder machine and deserves all the accolades you give it. I wonder if Japa sales have increased since you’ve given it exposure ? I hope to see the new stacks from that wood in the trailer. Have a wonderful week, cheers.
Yes Joe try using a Rapid Super Chain as they are more forgiving when cutting your Logs. That's what I use on my Stihl Chain Saws. They are not to bad to Sharpen either. Ron from Duanesburg. PS:Stay safe and as always your Video's are great.
During warm days I suppose you could pre stage the wood and hit the exterior with a pressure washer to knock that dried mud off and let it drip dry overnight so it would be ready the next morning. Wouldn’t be any different than a good rain landing on it while it is sitting there.
I am living in Finland. We have major brands for making firewood here Japa and Palax. Those have maybe 90 % market share. Also we have smaller brands. I am proud that you are satisfied to have a finnish product. In Finland every professional firewood maker use bags to storage and drie firewood. Why you dont'n use bags in USA? Using bags means less fingermarks to firewood.
I let my wood sit for too long to makes bags useful. The wood will mold. I was in Finland last fall for FinnMetko and also toured the Japa factories. You live in a beautiful country Eero. Kiitos
Definitely a thumbs up day in the new woodyard. The 405 has put on another great show. I don't know if you can produce any more firewood in a one man operation compared to what you are doing now Joe.
I feel like i say this everytime i see the 405 run, but that is by far those most impressive processor I've seen yet. Most of these massive processors output huge chunks of wood that require resplitting, even with 8-12 way wedges. That perfect split literally produces actual perfect split sizes haha 👏
One suggestion to look into, a couple of those "trip bucket" mini dumpsters for the debris. Less fussing and flipping of those tote bladders. I've seen them at many warehouses. Forklifts haul pallet debris to a dumpster outside. Not much fissing about to dump the load. Be nice if you could rent one to test that idea for the disc cleaner, perfect-clean, and sawdust.
@Ohio Wood Burner Ltd , true thst they are expensive. If you had to carry the debris a longer distance like in a warehouse situation, would prevent a mess. Was mostly curious as to if it would work for you or not.
I'm curious if you have ever considered a short spout of some kind for the sawdust, would help get more of it in the bladder especially when the wind picks up
As far as the tools for repair go- I try to have a small tool bag or a small compartment attached to the machine with just the particular tools I would usually need at the ready. That way they are right there and you don’t have to hunt for anything. Just a thought and my two cents worth for today. Keep up the good work!👍
It sounds expensive BUT I generally speaking look at my equipment and assemble a kit of commonly used tools and assorted pins can c-clips that I regularly use servicing each machine (within reason) and house them in a watertight box attached to the machine. Now I don't buy the best tools for this purpose - Husky at HD is more than adequate - my processor needs three wrench and two allen keys for most repairs and adjustments. A plastic watertight ammo can does the trick. I hate walking over to the garage to get something that should be at my finger tips! I paint them a colour so I know to put them back into the box attached to the machine.
